My ddad just stayed up a short time and then went back to bed.

Normally I would try to hurry through a shower, finally. But now not only has my ddad said he wants me to check on him often, his friend has casually suggested he might drop by ... anytime, I guess. Dd and HRH got all their personal routines done easily before they left, with me watching the fort of course. But now that they are gone (and I realize they are the ones with deadlines) I am still watching.

Lilac, I have a frustrating word interchange like that but right now I can't remember what it is!!!!! Wait - I'm not trying to be funny! This is how bad it is if I can't even think of it. I believe it's computer/cucumber, at least that's the one that used to make me so irritated, lol, because it would make HRH laugh. Honestly, it really does seem like there was another one more recently. ...? Oh well, I'm much too brilliant to be bothered with such minor flaws! So are you!

Heading off to check out Emptynester's aprons. Awwwww! I was thought of when viewing the apron that appears to be going backward and forward at the same time! How well you know me, Emptynester! Sure do wish I could have gone to such a nice event. Some churches here have them - "bazaars" or "craft sales", but they don't do as much as they used to. This one looks like I would have gained weight as well as crafts - love the wallhanging.

Another fine example of my current procrastination situation. On the 27th dh received a phone call from the NRA wanting a donation. He whipped out his cc and donated. They gave him a phone number in case of problems. I was not at home when this happened and was not happy that he took them at their word. Anyone could give you a phony phone number to make you feel secure. On the 28th, when he finally remembered to tell me, I called the cc company and asked if anything had been charged from the NRA. Nothing had but the guy assured me that if there was fraud involved, I would already have multiple charges on there. While I had him on the line I had him put a travel (what's the word?) on our account for the duration of dhs trip. Just now I called the cc company and there is a charge from the NRA in the amount dh donated. Whew!

Yes, Lilac, I have contacted the 3 credit bureaus (is that the right word? What you were thinking of?) and have placed a fraud alert on my -- account, report, my information -- not sure exactly what that is called. I started with the SSA and a woman there told me to contact them. It took a while, but the woman was very helpful, for which I was grateful. Actually, I just contacted one agency and they said they would send the alert to the other 2 companies. I have also printed out my credit report from each and will do so every 3 months to monitor activity. I also need to check my SS statement regularly to make sure no one else is employed with my SSN.

One more phone call: to the Office Inspector General. There, I'd never heard of such an office. I'm learning so much.

I will create a file in which to store all this info., including my notes on phone calls made.

Moral: READ your emails carefully, esp. the business-looking ones.

Hi, Lilac!! Yeah, how about those Cats!! I am a casual fan at best, but it's difficult not to get caught up in the excitement. My sympathy to your dcousin in the loss of his son.

Since Lilac lured me out of the shadows, I guess I'll catch you up to date. I've been spending much time caring for my dmother. She broke her hip and had surgery (partial replacement) on Aug. 18. Her recovery and rehab went well, and then on Oct. 10 she had surgery to remove part of her colon and large intestine. The colon surgery was not a surprise, and was postponed when she broke her hip, so we always knew what she was facing. Her recovery and rehab from the most recent surgery have gone extremely well for someone of her age. She will see an oncologist on Friday, but her prognosis is very good. A few cancer cells were found, but the margins were clear and the seven lymph nodes tested were clear. She is amazing, but needs assistance. She lives in an assisted living residence, not a skilled nursing home setting, & we are determined to keep her there. Sooooo, my dsis & I have been "assisting" the caregivers with her care. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but it's been stressful and exhausting, both mentally and physically. Not complaining at all, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Anyway, I've been reading posts and rejoicing, praying, encouraging, etc. as I read. Glad to see Dee arrived safely & praying for LO's surgery (((OKay))). (((Harriet))), you have so much on your plate, but your sense of humor is intact. I hope your ddad feels better soon. Yikes, Helia!! Hope you get everything cancelled in time.

Good morning/afternoon y'all....

Phew....you girls have been busy today.

Lilac, I have to agree with what you and other gals have said today. I came from a father who was always trying to tell me what I needed to do even as an adult. I guess there is a reason why at 18 I moved 1,000 miles away and never looked back. My in-laws weren't much better. After many years of putting up with why they were always dissatisfied with our...my exdh and me decisions I finally had enough. It caused great tension between my exdh and myself. Every holiday turned into some kind of nightmare with my in-laws trying to tell us where we needed to be. They made me feel like a child, not an adult. I didn't marry my exdh to have them run my life. Once we mentioned to them that we were going to look for den furniture...two days later they showed up with a truck filled with second-hand furniture...along with rugs. I have nothing against second-hand stuff, that wasn't the problem. The furniture was a style I hated and the colors were orange and yellow. I hate yellow and my dmil knew it.

We were stuck with it as we were unable to return the furniture. I told my friends at the time, to complain about my in-laws intentions seemed petty, but I hated the way they were always trying to control my life. Even when we moved away, they would visit for a week at a time 4 times a year so I know how Dee felt the other month.

I do have my great, great grandmother's christening dress. However, my dh had no desire to have my son baptized. We went through the same thing with both our families and I finally had to tell them to buzz off... it was our child and our decision. Years later when we were visiting friends in Twin's town we, my son and I, were working at the Episcopal Church at the bottom of mountain. The priest was a woman at the time and my friend and her kids were helping to clean out a room. Anyway, my son said to me....Mama, when can I get baptized??? I think he was about 10. I answered...whenever you want to. The priest overheard us and said...I can do it now if you want, and my son said yes.

The ceremony was perfect. There the 6 of us stood...my friend and her two 14 yr old kids, my son, myself and the priest. We all had on dirty, nasty t-shirts and shorts for cleaning. Not exactly the attire you would think to wear to such a thing. My friend and I had been taking our kids to church together for many years and this seemed appropriate. The Priest was amazing with my son that day and my son "still" talks about it.

(((Helia))) - I got a very convincing email from C hase a few weeks ago, if it weren't for 2 things I might have responded; 1st I DON'T have a C hase account, & 2nd the Navy has shoved so many internet protection course down my throat that I spot them almost unconsciously. I forwarded the email to C hase's fraud department. My A mazon account was hacked a few months back and they got me for >$200.00, thankfully my CU refunded the money and took care of it. I now do not save my CC info on any websites.

Harriet - (((Ddad))), (((HRH))), and especially (((You))). I hope you can get your shower soon I know it will make you feel much better.

Well, the DK's got up and are helping out, They actually folded 2 hampers of laundry!!!

Got the tops of my cabinets dusted... took 2 15 minute grooves because that is where I keep my crystal knickknacks. Not sure how I ended up with a bunch of Crystal candlestick holders, I don't collect them... maybe from when DMother lived here. I was surfing the web looking for how to clean Bert and found a great site with how to clean tons of stuff including Agnes (my Dishwasher) it is now running through the 1st cycle now.

Time to flip Bert & Ernie again especially since I now have the DK's bedding too...

Not long ago, Sweetie got a phone call about his credit card...he knew it was bogus, but decided to play along. Sweetie pretended to be a guy who didn't understand much about computers...and the guy on the other end was from a foreign country...we couldn't tell where. These guys were trying to get Sweetie to turn on his computer and enter some information so the guys would gain control of Sweetie's computer.

The guy asked Sweetie what type of computer he had...Sweetie answer an Commadore. I started laughing. He told Sweetie to push some buttons and asked Sweetie what he saw. Sweetie said a black screen. The guy was very patient with Sweetie and tried to walk him through it again. He asked Sweetie the same question and Sweetie said...I think I just broke it. By then I was literally rolling on the floor, hand over my mouth.

Sweetie played this guy for 25 minutes. We could tell it was coming from a boiler room, cause we could here all the talking in the background. At on point Sweetie got disconnected from the other guys phone. Not to worry, a few minutes the other guy called back. This went on for another 15 minutes or so until the other guy became so exasperated he hung up on Sweetie.

We couldn't tell who was placing the call or we would have reported it. Fortunately Sweetie caught on right away with was happening and we had a very good laugh at turning the tables. I think Sweetie is waiting for the guy to call him back so Sweetie can have some more fun....

Personal information security is scary these days. I worry more about DH who acts impulsively sometimes. Once he put an ad for something in Cr ai gs Li st and got a reply that this guy was sending some travelers' checks and wanted him to send him the difference back. I knew right away it was bogus. Took them to a bank just in case they had some way of tracing or reporting, but they weren't interested. Said these things weren't even the right size, and of course weren't signed by anyone. Sorry for the extra work, helia.

Scattered, I had 2 tiger-striped cats named Bert and Ernie. We loved them, they were brothers we'd found on the road and so friendly. We kept them but they had to live outside since DH is allergic, but we fed them on the lanai and they had a cat door to come and go. Bert lived a couple years. Ernie lived a few years more but something (racoon?) got him and I was so unhappy. We tried another little kitty, I named him Kermit, but he didn't last long either...so I gave that up. Not fair for cats to be outside.

I've vacuumed the whole house and mopped. I hope I don't pay for this later.

I'm almost done the first writing assignment. I had allowed 2 hours for it. I'm at 4 hours now. Sigh....

It is writing the church service for Sunday, which is made up of 15 hymns picked by the congregation to be sung in memory of someone. So I have to make a service that flows out of random pieces of music, plus try and tie it to the Bible readings (gave up on that - couldn't be done) and write an intro for each hymn. I have four more to do, only two of which I actually know about (the other two I'll hear about later today.)

Tomorrow morning I have 2 hours set aside to meet with someone and polish the service.
