Thrilling Thursday

I am thrilled because if it is Thursday then there is just one more day before the weekend. I woke up an hour and a half late yesterday, I was out the door in under 10 minutes mainly due to the fact that my DS's packed my lunch and poured my coffee for me so by the time I got to the bottom of the stairs they were standing there to hand me my stuff. I got home from work and barely did the 3 D's. Tonight I need to get the Linen closet done and maybe work on the bathroom.

I have a 7:45am appt with eye doctor for yearly exam. Years ago I had some serious eye problems, but thankfully they seem to be a thing of the past. I still keep up with my regular checkups to monitor things. I'm very thankful to have 20/20 vision without wearing glasses.

Good morning! I am leaving in a few to meet w rabbi this morning and then on to work. Long day yesterday on synagogue biz, was in the building from 3 p.m. until 8:45 yesterday. (Two meetings, then we had an event last night also.) I am t.i.r.e.d. this morning.

This has been a terribly busy week and I'm feeling drained. Tomorrow we will drive to Birmingham for a funeral - dh said last night he wanted to be there for funeral at 1 p.m, then to cemetery, then stay to "sit shiva" and spend the night, coming back very early Sat because he has a Saturday commitment at 8:30 a.m. This morning I suggested that we just go to funeral and cemetery and come back and he said he wants to "spend some time with them." This is a family that has lived in Birmingham all their life and I said I don't think there will be opportunities to just "spend time" so he's thinking we'll play it by ear and probably plan to come back late Friday evening. Another exhausting day - he was wanting us to entertain on Sat night but we haven't set anything up and I won't do it now....

I skimmed and saw that HRH deserves congratulations and a hearty "well done!" I think it is more impressive when people are ambitious enough to finish/continue education on their own dime - and their own time. Please tell HRH Congratulations -- and that I am very impressed with him, Harriet.

Dfriends just left. Last night, I did get dd14's paperwork done and I made muffins. This morning, I got the list of child care workers written and printed out and got their Cmas cards prepped.

I'm feeling virtuous b/c I spent some time cleaning yesterday, and the house is generally in better shape. However, cleaning always makes me realize what I'm missing; the wood floors could really use a mopping, the baseboards in the hallway are collecting dust (they are about half done right now), the shower could use a scrubbing.

-moms group set up, meeting, take down 8:45 - 12:15-ish
-wash towels
-maybe winterize my flower gardens; they still need to be deadheaded. It looks like a sunny clear day -- cold, I think, but sunny.
-pick up dd14 from school at 3:30 to take her to a trial sewing lesson 4-5 w/ a friend from church who designs - and sells - a line of children's clothing. Interestingly, this woman has a physics background, which makes me think of Elizabeth. We've been having trouble finding a teacher for dd14 as she feels she has gone beyond her past teacher and wants help in designing things, as well as more advanced sewing techniques. I am no seamstress, so I can't share specifically. I really should post some of her projects here. She has designed, and then made, some smaller items - skirts, purse, bags. Rambling: Despite dh's efforts to try to talk her into considering engineering as a Univ. major in 4 years - as an engineer himself, it is his opinion, she would make a great one - she is currently interested in design -- which I don't completely understand. Dh says it is a very broad field, from designing clothes, shoes, purses, etc. to designing household goods - appliances, furniture, faucets, etc. Architecture is another possible future direction. . . . She's got time to decide -- and change her mind several times.
-I think only dfriend R is coming over for Thursday dinner tonight, so it will be more casual, which is just fine with me.

I hope to relax and read tonight.

I have wimped out on going to meet with rabbi and go to work. I just can't do it today. Too tired, too dispirited right now. Maybe I need the sun lamp but I just can't get going this morning.

theosophy society tonight - geometry and mathematics in creation. interesting if you like that sort of thing. I visit there sometimes if I have a little eneergy and the topic looks interesting.

DH is off to breakfast and I'm wasting time here on the computer. I need to go mix up the 6 week bran muffin mix for the fridge, fold at least 2 loads of clothes waiting, sort some laundry and get the twins twirling and S2BF.

So off I go. Belated Happy Anniversary to Harriet and HRH. Great job with the diploma. I started college in 1959 and finished in 1994 so I know some of what he went thru. Haven't used the degree since but I have it.

I'm up and sort-of at'em.

I skipped exercising - my cold is more in my chest this morning and I was wheezing so decided working out might be less than helpful.

I have entered the chits into Quicken while having my tea.

Nothing has been consciously done around here for 5 days but dh has been keeping the dishes up for me and I guess I'm doing a bit of tidying because the house doesn't look too bad. The bedroom is worse but that's tomorrow's task and the huge pile of clothes on the bench at the foot of the bed are all dh's. He hasn't unpacked yet from the weekend and then 3 days of clothing are piled on top of that. I'm sure the contrast with my side of the bench will inspire him to tidy it up this morning.

I need to prioritize. I have writing to do and housework to do. Don't really want to do either. For Sunday I'm doing a reading, a devotion and a presentation. Still have to go over the reading but that's easy, I've picked a devotion (written by one of my friends from school that I found in an Advent devotions book) and I've done the outline of the presentation so that might come together easily. I just have to decide if I should use computer/projector for this - I suspect I should so that will take longer.

I got a preaching gig for Dec. 30th. That messes dd's tentative plans for the pantomime that night (in a city 4 hours away) but I couldn't help it and I don't want to turn down any work. I could send everyone else on to Toronto and join them by bus/train/plane later in the day. We'll see how schedules work.

For now, I'm going to try and work out a schedule for today. I read for an hour last night and figure another hour will finish the book. It is a tear-jerker called The Walk but a super easy read, probably only a few hundred words per page.

Belated Anniversary wishes to Harriet and HRH. I guess I missed the part about his education...I've been missing a lot lately.

Last evening the meeting at church went very long and was not only physically but emotionally draining as well. I came home all done-in. (Twins) I see we both had meeting fatigue.

Fell asleep on the couch and woke in the middle of the night, nothing done...so awoke with a start very very early this AM and jumped up to make DH's lunch...and a stack of paperwork for county for him to take with him.

Truck shuffle done, 2nd LOL is twirling in dryer, 3rd in the washer. Kitchen cleaned up a bit.

It's early and I have a whole day's work done already.

I need to make some plans for Thanksgiving (it's here this year). I need to do some shopping for that. I need to go visit my 2 ladies in nursing homes. Wow. Just wow. So much to do..

Aarrggghhh! Timing has been so discombobulated since I got here, seems like I barely have time to get here. I have been running, running, running -much more than up home and have been much busier. Next week should be quieter (no school all week). Figured out yesterday I'm averaging 75-100 miles a day in the past several. Today I ran gd14 to school (clocked it today -11 miles 1 way & 12 miles to church). Yesterday I was back and forth like a yo-yo!

Even missed wishing Harriet & HRH a very HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. I don't like being this busy! With dd not getting home until 8pm most days -she leaves at 6:45am, I have taken on doing most of the shopping, cooking, running gd, etc. DH goes with me as much as he can. But he's also helping with dd's TSA'a (Technology Student Assoc) Christmas float. They need to get as much done this week as they can. Parade is Dec. 6th -but the school is locked up from this Saturday until Monday, Nov 26th.

DH and I have to be back at gd's school at 11:30 today for a Thanksgiving 'lunch'. Then I'm taking him to dd's school, going to dsil's for a little while and then taking gd for a hair appointment at 2:45.

We had Thanksgiving at church last night -when dd got there, she said DSonIL had called her and the water pump to their well burned up after we left here. So we're without water -amazing how many things you realize you can't do without it. We did manage to bring about 4 jugs of water home from church. So at least we have some to 'flush' but that's it. We're waiting now for an 'emergency' visit from the pump people. DSonIL has gone for physical therapy so we'll probably leave when he gets back.

I really need to decide to do SOMETHING and get at it before it's time to leave again. Poof<***>
