I am up, but very tired! I watched the uncut version of The Notebook Last night which meant I was up until almost midnight... way past my bedtime.

Have to stay late at work tonight to work on my yearly re-orientation stuff.

Good morning! I have until about 10:30 this morning - dh has a meeting, then will come home, change and head to Birmingham AL for a funeral.

PODA for the next few hours:
-print off directions to funeral
-go to cleaners and gas up my car
-walk the ddogs
-make arrangements w friend to come by and feed/walk ddogs after work as we will be back late
-s2s and get ready to go
-what else?

Taking gd14 to school in about 20 minutes so will try to fit in a post while I wait. Got up about 6 or so and it's taken me all this time to get myself around. Start out moving very slowly and get about nothing done before the school run (other than taking care of myself and making the bed). Then the day is so broken. Yesterday only drove 61 miles in several segments.

I'm very glad today is Friday, scattered. And the next week is school vacation around here so hopefully won't have as much driving to do. I just know we've spending a lot on gas and groceries -the necessary G's! Might be 'cheap rent' for FL -I'll let you know at the end of the month.

I never buy stationery any more -internet & the computer is my speed for the most part. But, when we were in Lancaster, PA I found the most gorgeous note paper and HAD to have it. Already wrote a thank-you note to the nurse in my doctor's office on it. There were several patterns and if we go back next summer (as is our plan) I'm going to get 2 or 3 packages. Not cheap but so beautiful.

Have to start thinking about my/dh/dd's project for this winter. I want to make a 'barn quilt' to go on the outside of our shed at the campground. Some of them are just beautiful and it certainly would be the first (but I'm sure not the last) in our park. We'll have only about 2 1/2 months to complete it so I know I need to find a pattern and start buying supplies. I want to put it on the side of our shed and dh wants to cut it in the middle and put it on the doors. Guess we'll have to see how it shapes up. A lot of barn quilts are 8x8' but we'll have to do a 4'x4'. First step is to find one I can't live without.

Going to dsis' of dsisil for Thanksgiving. Not happy about how it's shaping up as dd and gd are going to go with us. But dsonil is declining. Not terribly surprising but do wish he'd get out and do something. On that Saturday we're all invited to a birthday party for dh's eldest db. 2 of his nieces are flying in from CA for this event so I'm glad dd will at least get to see some of her cousins. But, again, dsonil is not going. Feel bad for dd. He's becoming more of a 'stick in the mud' the older he gets. Yet, he loves having us here and dh around.

Have to go make sure gd is up and ready to go.

I often feel I need to look at a map when you post, Twins, b/c you seem to go to other states for a day -- GA, AL. I suppose you are in southern Tenn. Now that I think of it, I could go to other states for a day from here too, namely Ohio and Indiana. Illinois would be a stretch. Ontario, Canada could be done too, more easily than IN, actually.

I'm intrigued with the barn quilt, Dee. Is it just for decoration, to hang on the outside of a barn? Does it have a function as well? What happens to it in bad weather?

I'm glad it is Friday too! Very apropos title, scattered.

Tgiving: I need to call my dbro. tonight so we can coordinate the Tgiving meal. He is now talking about doing what MT suggested, buying a pre-cooked turkey at the groc. store. Schools here are in session M and T next week. The University is in session M-W next week. Ds has said his Wed. afternoon class has been cancelled, so he's available to travel with us to my parents Wed. afternoon. We're just waiting to see if dh can cancel his Wed. afternoon meeting that runs until 5/5:30. Otherwise, we'll just leave late and arrive late. It is a 6 hour drive. I already have hotel reservations. Need to confirm Pepper care with dfriends.

Dh is arriving home late this morning/early this afternoon, I believe.

PODA:
-teaching team meeting 9:30 - ? this morning
-jog; either join dh outside or go to the gym
-Dd14 should be set (paperwork turned in) for synchr. swimming practice 5:30 - 7:30 tonight; I'll be her chauffeur
-groc. store run; small group is meeting at our house tomorrow night. I'm making a kima (hamburger curry) to be eaten over rice.
-maybe get my car serviced; I hate going to the oil place, U ncle Ed's is nearby. They always try to get me to do a gazillion other things to my car. I don't know if they're necessary or not. Dh says most of them are not; I wanted him to take the van in instead of me, but he has been way too busy -- as always. I've been driving with one headlight for 2 weeks. I think that is actually illegal?? Anyhow, it is certainly not good.

The sun is shining! I've been enjoying these sunny cool fall days.

Off to finish the a.m. routine. I have the dw half-unloaded at the moment. The dish drainer has been unloaded too. My first mug of tea has been imbibed. Girls have been sent off. . . . Emails have been checked -- one email response needed.

Helia, AL, GA and NC are all less than an hour away. As you've noted, we go to Atlanta regularly!

Done with that round, and went by bank for some cash. High temp in Birmingham is supposed to be 65 today, can't decide whether I can go barelegged or need tights..

-straighten great room
-straighten MBR
-make bed
-s2s, including shaving legs
-lay out clothes to wear, pack a small bag with clothes to change into, if I have a chance after funeral

I will throw on walking clothes after this, and take ddogs for their walk. Will change when it gets close to time for dh to be back home.

Cowinkie, next door neighbor, who is next to new house being built, did call police. Builder was saying it was emergency because concrete wasn't setting up. Did receive apologetic email from builder that the concrete sub hadn't included the additive to set the concrete in cooler weather, and he recognized that we might have been more understanding if we had been notified that there was a problem. The city street sweeper is out this morning cleaning up the substance they put on the oily spills.

MT Congratulations on purchase of new car! How new is it? We are in need of one here too, but keep limping along with the old suv.

Twins, have a safe trip. Sounds like such a long trip to me. I must look at the map, can't believe you are that close.

Dee, I'm extremely interested in your barn quilt. I hope you will share as the progress goes along. I would love to have one of those here. Will you just do one big square of "pieces" or more than that? Paint / board right? Protective coating over it all? Wonder if I could get DH to make me one? Helia asked about protection from the rain...it's not fabric, right?

Ok that's enough to start. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.

I'm thoughtful about the concrete noise in the neighborhood. I can understand the problem. Sometimes things happen like that, and it's a real big problem. If they don't work the concrete until it's set and polished on top, it's a mess and has to be jackhammered all away, big expense, mess, awful thing. We occasionally run into something if it begins to rain and we must cover with plastic, uncover and finish later... but they must have been really running late. Once concrete is poured, the trucks go away, and it is just men with poles and concrete-finishing tools that don't make noise. We use a power troweler which has a quieter gas motor than a lawnmower and makes a gentle swish swish noise as it circles. I think here we're not allowed to pour until 7:00 AM and I don't know how late. We try to get the trucks in and out early, but sometimes they are too busy...I'm naturally more sympathetic, but the issue is if this company does this sort of thing all the time or over and over in the same neighborhood, that wouldn't be good.
