Up with a headache this morning - too much food too late last night is my guess. Or else I slept too hard as I was glad the purchase was over.

Harmony - we watched the car come off the truck and it had 31 miles on it. Guess that is pretty new. Last new car we bought was in 1978 so guess it was our time again.

Today is a clean up the house day as my dbro is coming to visit tomorrow.

(((EN)))I need to clean up today as well before I start with outside gardening more bulbs to get in the ground I'm happy happy happy about that and it was thrilling for me to get to begin yesterday. Inside stuff got neglected how ever. IYKWIM

Progress on the first few today.
Bed is made, breakfast is done, coffee is gone, journaling done, chickens have been fed their morning fare.

I googled barn quilts and am intrigued. It looks like they're large wooden squares, painted like quilt squares. It looks like one squre per barn. It would be fun to see some on barns. I don't remember MT's first comment about them, but I wonder if you are planning on making one?

Oh, Twins, you're close to NC too. Wow! I hope the trip goes well.

Morning y'all...

I'll be joining Nancy in the garden. I need to attend to some of my flowers, Can do that now that I am feeling much more like myself.

Yesterday I got the guest bedroom ready for my son...not much to do really...just rearrange a few things in the closet and empty out a draw in the dresser. That took all of 15 minutes. Also washed and put the sheets back on the bed. I had been sleeping off and on in that room when I wasn't feeling well.

Went to see the new Bond movie yesterday and really enjoyed it. Usually Sweetie goes to those types of movies cause I want to go, but much to his surprise he enjoyed it as much as I did. We saw it at the IMAX and that really added to the movie.

Yeah for you MT...glad you're enjoying your new ride. I had my car detailed while we went to the movies and boy does it ever look better. Its been sitting outside for a year while Sweetie has been building his car. I usually get it washed and cleaned at least once a month and have been waiting till the new garage was built before I had it deep cleaned. We're going to a huge car show tomorrow....think 3,000+ cars...and will have to drive my car on a dirt parking lot, but I figured if I waited till Monday will I got my car done, but due to the holiday I figured I would have to wait a much longer time than I did yesterday to get it done.

With all but a very simple house blessing and just a short grocery visit I am ready for T-day.

Dee, Your barn quilt sounds neat. I have a bunch of quilting supplies, tools, books, patterns, a sewing machine, quilting thread and scraps. I just need to teach myself how to DO it! I admire people who quilt, so much!

I'm laughing this morning! One year, NOBODY celebrated Thanksgiving with DH and me! Why? We were very strict on our diets and ate turkey TV dinners! They tasted horrible and DH said, "We're NEVER doing this EVER again!!!" Sad we did that, but true. Then I recall that we went back to eating regular foods.

I finished the grson afghan this .m.! Yippee!!! Now on to slouch hats for DD and me!

Home from spending a beautiful morning with LO class. I don't think the live museum could have been better. I was so impressed with the hands-on that I recorded 4 of the sessions - how to build a fire using several primitive methods, old school room where the children wore clothing that were typically worn 100 years ago, sat at old fashion desks and they used slate/chalk to do a simple lesson with the "teacher" dressed in the part walked through the classroom with a stick , the children pretending to live in teepee with real skins, papoose, etc, and the best of all was the trading post where the fire place was in use and made me think we had been transformed to a place 100 years ago.

I have been looking for a bag/purse to fit my needs without any success. I kept finding myself looking at backpacks and making myself walk away from them. No one my age carries a backpack. I finally decided I didn't care what others use, but a backpack fits my needs perfectly. So today I went an bought one. I am now a backpack toting Nana. That is who I am.

OKay, I love historical places like that. I bought a backpack (small one) to use if I ever went shopping or to an amusement park, etc., with any of the grandkids. Nice to be hands free. Haven't used it yet.

Sigh...some things done, some not.

Thanksgiving "gifts" purchased - settled on nice cards rather than clutter.
Engineering picked up.
Papers turned in to county office.
Charge paid at bank.
Appliance part picked up at store.
Visited both my ladies though one wasn't there so I must go back to see her.
Gift card bought to send with card.

No groceries / still need to make that phone call
Still need to get 2 DGSs b'day presents

Now I have stuff to do for DH and then I'll decide if I can do anything else. I feel like I'm done for the day.

I'm having a productive day but don't have anything to show for it. Can't go down for my nap because bedding is in the dryer right now.

Spent the afternoon with my senior friend and it was a good visit as we ran errands. Among them, getting a handicap sticker for the car so we can now use the handicap parking spaces. Yay!!!! (I'm always trying to get good spots but it can be hard, now it should be easier.)

She had a shock when her GP told her that the breast lump report said malignant at first but then changed to benign. The surgeon had told her benign and given her the option of removal or not but never said the M word. Luckily she picked removal so now she knows it will be gone, whatever it is.

She called the hospital this morning and requested any cancellation they have so she can get in before Dec. 20. In the meantime, she'll work towards getting ready for Christmas. Her goal is to be almost done by Dec. 1. She's an inspiration. It was only at the end when I was walking her to her door that she told me her feet, legs and back are very painful and it isn't the same as the kidney pain. Yet there was not one discouraging or negative word from her today.

That's wonderful that you can give time to your senior friend, Kathryn. Will it have to be full anesthesia for the removal, though... ... that is a hard decision to make since there can be complications with the anesthesia.

Guess there's "new car smell" for the Emptynesters!

A barn quilt should rightly be called a barn patchwork, shouldn't it, since it is just one layer and nobody's going to try to run a needle through it but somehow they got the barn quilt name.

HRH's oldest maternal aunt passed away. She had been in a nursing home quite a long time. The calls were being made by her son to each of her siblings' homes and before they could be finished, younger facebook-savvy members of the families of those already called were posting fast to facebook though they didn't even know the aunt. So some of her siblings found out that way, before getting their own more tactful call. HRH's mother said to her it just looked like a race to see who could be first to tell news, with misspellings and use of "RIP" to post fast. So she is disappointed in that.

The repairman for my parent's house's heat came here at HRH's request to do a check-up on our heat pumps. He's new to us, recommended by our appliance guy, because the other guy still has not called back after we spoke to his receptionist days ago. We got a little bit of an eye-opening experience when he was able to obviously boost the heat output on the bedroom side of the house. He says "the guy who was here before didn't do a very good job". And of course there was no way we could have known, but we've probably been paying too much in monthly bills. Sigh. He has to order parts for the other house's problem. Double Sigh. Hopefully by the time dd32's family needs to stay there it will be warm. I wonder if our pocketbook will be drafty.

HRH is very philosophical about this. He says we needed this particular person who is expert enough to come and help us save money and take better care of our heating systems. But we would never have even known his name except the appliance guy was here when we were talking about it. And the appliance guy would not have been here except that the fridge freezer needed repair. So there is a moral there somewhere. Something like, "Don't be too unhappy with inconveniences - maybe all things are working together for good after all".

Hope the way the diesel spill was handled cleans it up. Dstepson is a manager for the largest concrete supply company in our area and sometimes one of his duties is dispatch. I know he has to be very careful about timing. He sends some drivers in the early mornings to locations that are industrial or highway and holds off on the residential until later.

Long slice of life - I was surprised several days back by a phone call from the banker who handled merging my ddad's 2 accounts into one. I had had to show my power of atty to do that. But the banker called because, since the POA was more than 6 months old, he found out he needed to call my ddad personally and hear him say he was aware there was a POA and that I was that person. It happened at my ddad's breakfast time so he was alert, I was able to express to ddad who was on the phone and, aside from blasting the banker's eardrums with his decibel level, my ddad said what was expected, so that was handled. But I was very surprised that having a POA was not enough - I mean, why have them then?
Well, today I dropped by the bank on my own errands. Wow. I got an earful of the reason they worry about this sort of thing. There was a lady there who had limited sight and hearing, and had had a neighbor drive her to the bank. Sounds reasonable, right? Whoops. She found out for the first time that her acct didn't respond to her card any more, that her granddaughter had moved her funds to an interest-bearing acct. She was furious. The bank manager was trying to explain that the granddaughter had acted as her POA and had the proper court documents, but the lady did NOT understand this at all and basically was accusing the bank of colluding with her granddaughter to take her Social Security checks away. Wow. Because she couldn't see well, they were telling her audibly the account balance and she was shouting it after them demanding that they give her her money, unnerving everyone. If it were a different day and time we would have had a run on the bank like in It's A Wonderful Life. I met "my" banker on the way out and mentioned to him to put in a compliment from me to the lady bank manager, who was handling the situation as kindly as possible, though probably at the end of her rope.
