How wonderful for dds, blessed. I understand, though. Airplanes are not my favorite either. I've flown enough now, though, that I'm pretty comfortable on them -- and with loved ones on them, maybe more difficult. I'm looking forward to hearing about ddyounger's trip to Australia this summer!
Have a good day at work, scattered. Thanks for starting us off.
Enjoy the pancakes, Dee. BTW, dd17 and dh were talking about the sniper and the first responders here the other day. Apparently, that story made it onto NPR, which dh listens to in his car.
Enjoy time with dd, Kathryn! BTW, I thought it was wonderful that you spent Cmas helping with meals for the less fortunate.
It sounds like you're off to a great start, Twins.
Hope dgd16 is healing, Lilac.
Yay for eggs, nancy! I'm curious how your roo adventures will end. . ..
You're inspiring, OK. One thing I'd like to do this break is revamp my cards.
We're off to a late start today after most of us had a late night, but thanks to dh, the dw has been unloaded and the debris from opening gifts last night has been cleaned up.
R ate with us last night and it was nice to see him again.
Today: We need to clear off the driveway this morning; I prefer the shovel but dh likes to use the snowblower. I need to go to the groc. store. Dd14 is going to her sewing/design session at 4; I will probably walk for an hour during the session to get in a little exercise. Then, I've invited R and A over for Thursday dinner; they're the only ones of the Th dinner crew in town right now. Dh leaves tonight for NL.
OK, I'm off to get the a.m. routine going.

Re: Thoughtful Thursday
Good morning, everyone!
I woke up w/a headache, have taken 2 Aleve, eaten a banana & some pb crackers for breakfast, and I've put a load of clothes in the washer.
Also talked to car dealership man.
Our T*hoe has been in the shop for 17 DAYS... and since it will not demonstrate its problem for them, apparently they have done NOTHING so far. HOWEVER, finally, today, when we were prepared to go get it, give up on them, and let my dcousin have a shot at it... NOW, they say, "Well, the shop foreman has been doing some troubleshooting, and we think we may be able to figure it out... yada yada yada... let us keep it another day..."
**** SHEESH ****
Plus the fact that dnephew is home from CA and would really like to have dmil's van for his use, rather than having to borrow from his dad/mom/sister.
But it just cannot be helped.
Anyway. I guess I will go s2s and try to salvage this day.
Oh -- Lilac -- Guilt Trip... have not seen and probably will not see, unless I go alone.
DH just absolutely HATES Barbara S. It has to do w/her politics, but my goodness, if he culled everyone whose politics he doesn't like, we'd never see anything except Clint Eastwood films.
I know I'd like it if we saw it. I (sad to say, LOL) can imagine I'd see a bit of myself in her character!

Re: Thoughtful Thursday
Kathryn, it must be hard to watch DD do things like that.
I am still on my paperwork mountain. It will be like this for a couple more weeks at least as I close out the year and get the new year set up. This morning I had to start out preparing a packet for DH to take to county office. He is out and about with all that, so it is quiet here. I love that the phone has been quiet; however, that means less work.
I slept okay last night, but not so deep that I didn't hear the ddog come in several times to check where I was. I fixed her a bed in the bedroom and she used that a couple times. Last eve. it was chilly and windy outside so we put a fire in the fireplace and enjoyed that. DDog laid at our feet and watched the flames. It felt very "homey" to me.
It is very nice to have a few "quiet" days after the rush of the holiday. I am enjoying reading about all your company and celebrations, but am thankful mine is all over.

Re: Thoughtful Thursday
I just posted a short intro in/on the cafe table section. I hope its ok that I pop in here too....
Nancy ... I have to get up for work between 345 and 4am. Thinking a rooster might help me, lol.
Twinsmom..Enjoy your lunch and running around with Mom!!
Kathryn..Sounds like we got the same snows as you. We are totaling about 14 inches I'm guessing. Dh has been outside for the last hour clearing off cars, and clearing the driveway and walk. He's not near done. The last couple of winters have been so mild that this storm has been rather a shock to the system, lol
Dee...Enjoy DWorld. I am envious of your weather about now
. Scattered mentioned that we have ALOT in common, we'll talk.
Lilac...take heart that you have comp0any home cleaning today. I am doing the same. Hoping for the same plans as yours also.
Blessed...Wishing you a good day also!!!!
OK, i dont know just where I want to begin today. I'm thinking I am going to get all the Christmas festivities/supplies washed and packed to put back away. Except for the tree and that stuff. I have done, I think, 4 loads of dishes in the DW since Tuesday night, one more might do it. But all the cleaned Holiday dishes and serware need to go away. They are cluttering my mind up, ya know?
After that a quick patrol around the downstairs to catch all stray items and rehome them should put me in the frame of mind to actually address the real issues here.
The BIG question is rather simple but both answers have very differnt approaches. Do I start on the lovely (NOT!!!) project of year end/paper mess cleanup thingy, that will take me f-o-r-e-v-e-r, or at least feel like it will. Or do I start upstairs with the office and linen closet? ALso very very big projects? Decisions decisions. I'll think about while doing the first set of chores I guess.
When I can actually report progress, I'll be back

Welcome itneverends! It is great that you are joining us here.
lucylee, my db has the same reaction to S andra B ullock!
Huh! I don't even know where her political preference lies, but there is something about her that brings out your dhs reaction to B S in my db. In my dhs case it is J ane F onda.
I just talked to my dsisil who is married to my db. Enjoyed our talk but it is causing me to keep procrastinating. She said they are to get freezing rain overnight. They live 13 miles east of dm. Don't know if she will just cancel or postpone her trip here if they do get it.

Re: Thoughtful Thursday
Decided to have a cup of tea before I shower. I have spent so much time in the basement that it went from sunny to very cloudy. I have a bunch of trash to take out. It is in the sunroom and out of the way. On Monday the dumpster was full. I noticed something had been down the alley and left tire tracks, so am hoping it was the trash truck.
I need to tackle the 2 ham halves and get the meat off the bone. I did a great job of butchering each of them as I used the electric knife to slice them on Christmas night. Altogether there is at least a full half left or more. I always over estimate when I buy meat for a dinner.
Harmony, I am glad that you are enjoying some quiet time after all the work you did to get ready for your trip.
helia, how long will your dh be in NL?
blessed I hope your dds have a great visit with your dm.

Re: Thoughtful Thursday
Dd younger asked for a large world map for Christmas, which we got, for behind her bed so she can mark all places she has gone to and hopefully where she will go in the future. She loves flying and dd older things of flying as a car. So I know the 2 of them will have a good time. thank you.
heading towards laundry, spoke to dd younger already so they are just hanging out until 1:00 pm. d mom is so excited which is good.

Re: Thoughtful Thursday
Lilac -- J ane F onda is definitely on dh's NO list, also. We've seen a few of her movies, (LOL -- On Golden Pond was probably the last one, so you can tell how long it's been!) but now, he just pretty much boycotts her, too.
He does not like M eryl S treep, but will tolerate her for my sake, and the same w/G eorge C looney.
G eorge C looney is probably the most vocal of all the Hollywood types re: politics now, anyway, isn't he? So I don't know why dh still allows us to spend $$ on him, but I guess he just tolerates him b/c he knows I would spend the price of a movie basically to just LOOK @ GC for 2 hours, LOL!!!
I don't know what the deal is w/M eryl S treep... don't know if dh has heard something I've missed or if he just doesn't like her face or something. She is one of my favorites.
DH is probably the only man alive who doesn't like J ulia R oberts, btw... and I love her, too.
He does like S andra B ullock... R eese W itherspoon... G oldie H awn... and mostly we see any and all movies except the real horror films. We don't like slasher films, demonic/supernatural films, and we're not crazy about science fiction (although we have seen a lot of stuff that's probably in that category) or fantasy. Probably will not see The Hobbit.
I'm trying to think of what men in the movies we like... R obert D uvall... M att D amon... B en A ffleck... R yan R eynolds... J ack N icholson... those are some of my favorites, and I'm sure dh would agree w/ most of those. There is someone else whose face I can see as clear as day, but I can't think of the name...
Oh my I am obviously in a mood to waste time in a BIG way!!!
Good gracious.
I have not s2s yet or anything. This time, when I get out of the computer chair, I WILL accomplish something!

Re: Thoughtful Thursday
Yikes, I just lost a post.
lucylee, R obert D uvall is such a great actor. No matter what kind of character he plays, he really brings it to life. A M C is running repeats of "O pen
R ange" right now and dh has watched it twice.
I have seen it, liked it and once was enough.
Still haven't showered. I did wrestle the 2 ham halves. I have both meaty bones in the freezer. I have 2 freezer bags of ham for dd1. I have a 9 X 13 plastic container for us. After we eat ham for supper tonight I will package up what's left and get it in the freezer. I had a ham sandwich for lunch and it was so delicious, I might have one for supper, too.
I have to do something, even if it's wrong.....................

Re: Thoughtful Thursday
I did my journal and 4 mi. ex. on the ex. bike it helped me to get over some issues I had with hubby. Then I cleaned the chicken pen was going to leave 'em in the pen in case h. got off again today but then remembered that dgd would be here and my fav. show is on today so the loud roo will live another day. Today they were having a crowing contest!
H. was not happy at getting woke up before his alarm! LOL!
I just realized that I left the ladder they roost on outside so will need to get that back in before tonight. I put two new sacks of leaves and scattered feed on it and the new hens came in and
spread it around for me!
Chicken math: When I bought the first batch of young hens of six only two were actually hens! I saw one egg today already. Roos have been hugging all the hens so I"m hopeful that they will all be laying shortly!
