Just spend ages looking for an article I had read in a local paper on a natural weight loss supplement this doctor was recommending. Googling didn't help since I didn't have enough info so, recalling it was a tabloid sized paper I was reading at the time, I went through the online versions of the papers that might have come to the house and eventually found the article.

I'm still not sure of the product but I wanted to know more about the doctor (since it is very odd for a doctor to be pushing weight loss pills.)

I guess we should have some dinner now. I suspect it will be something involving leftover turkey.

I find it Interesting in the difference of medical care. It is quite common here for medical doctors to push weight loss pills. they even have clinics set up for only weight loss. Since I rarely travel much, I just assumed it was that way everywhere.

DBro called with the idea to get the entire family together and have a birthday party for DMom next Sunday. Guess who he thought should execute his idea?. Yup. me. No problem. I don't have anything else to do. :?
A FB post to the family group (secret) takes care of notifying the majority of family members. Phone calls are started to those who aren't online. Thankfully the word spreads fairly easily. We are keeping the menu simple - beans, chili, Frito, cheese, cornbread.......and birthday cake. Everyone is in charge of bringing their own drinks. throw in some paper products and TA-DA......a party for 30-50 people is pulled together.

We are back from dinner. We went to a new steakhouse that opened about a month ago. It was ok. Not great. Just ok. They undercooked Dd's steak so she sent it back and the manager came over to apologize and tell us he was taking it off the bill, so that was nice. But other than that, it was just 'ok'.

Waving hi***** to whomever came in after my last post. Getting very sleepy, so forgive the lack of shout outs. I have medicated for the evening and am headed upstairs to call it a night. I am really really hopping that the itching and pain will lessen so as I can sleep the night thru. Benadryl helps the itching quite well, but I cant take another one tonight or I will never hear the alarm clock at 345am, lol. Its going to be hard enough to get up then, and MAN, its going to be C-O-L-D. I DID find my long underwear, both tops and bottoms and have already gotten my heavy parka out of the closet, packed my work bag and checked the Kindle. So barring any catastrophe, my first day back in the new year should go smoothly. To have it go smoothly hopefully will take some of sting out of having to go back (after 11 days off) out.

Scattered, if you see this..... call me on your lunch tomorrow. If I fall asleep when I get home, I will definately need to be woken up.

I bid you all good night and again Happy New Year!!!

We have weight loss clinics here too, most of which are selling product as well as the doctor's supervision and I've known people who have had short term success with them but the weight has come back, just as it did for me with WW.

But my family doctor just tells me to lose weight. She doesn't suggest any particular diet nor has ever suggested any sort of pill, prescription or otherwise. She just nags.

Dinner was starchy and would have benefited from one of those pills if I really believed they were good for me. I had the rest of the mashed potatoes, mixed up with 3 oz of turkey, some green onion and some poultry seasoning, fried up in garlic olive oil. Plus a green salad and glass of milk. I find it hard to believe that potatoes (aside from chips or deep fried) can be unhealthy since they have protein, fibre as well as vitamin C.

The pretzels I ate after dinner, although low in fat, probably could have justified a pill.

I'm having another cup of tea (decaf this time) because I had a coughing fit while loading the dishwasher and I'm quite cold. I'm having trouble staying awake so may go to bed insanely early. Ds hasn't called about the wheel chair yet and I still haven't got it wiped down and ready to be loaned out.

From the holiday foodstuffs, there are still a lot of cans of soda, pretzels, too much frozen juice for punch (although I can make up one for a potluck at church in Feb) and too many crackers (but I don't like 2 of the kinds.) There's a small amount of chocolate left, only 3 or 4 servings. The fridge has some pure grape juice and the mulled juice (which I don't drink but dh does.) And two more large servings of dh's birthday cake but it was a pineapple angel food cake so not very decadent. I'll toss whatever is left tomorrow.

(Dee) I hope the dinner went well with no mishaps.
Kathryn, hope you feel better. My refrigerator is stuffed too.
INE, how often do the shingles come back? It sounds awful.
MT, head still ok?
Cowinkie, I changed that post, must have been a typo. That iron was 20 years old. Still a nice old iron!
Scattered, what's in that closet? Inquiring minds want to know!

I watched the ball come down last night, DH got up about 15 minutes before that to join me. We stood outside to listen to the local fireworks.

Today was a very nice day. I went out shopping with DH, we forgot a few things on the list, but we did get all the returns done, and a few groceries, and pictures ordered at W-M (Christmas and quilts). I put sauerkraut and pork in the crockpot for supper.

We went outside and worked a bunch. A week ago DH had dug up all the bulbs that Sunny had given us. They had multiplied so they were too crowded and actually working themselves out of the ground. We replanted them. We had the garden cart FULL of them. DH dug, I planted, and towards the end we were both so exhausted. He watered and I took a shower. He showered and then we both napped.

I got a 2nd wind and went out and raked all the stuff that had dropped into the garden (island) and cleaned the curbing.

House is pretty much a wreck. Dishes are done but all stacked up drying. Tree is still up, and lit tonight. I'm not ready to take it down. Maybe the stockings. DD should be coming some day soon to get DDog, so maybe after that.

I know how to lose weight...eat less, move more, watch portions and don't cheat. I just have to convince myself to do it. My mom was into nutrition before I was born. Fresh cooked veggies, limited dairy and fat, no fried foods and a beer on the weekend. Must work cause my mom is 85 5'2" as an adult and still weighs 105-8. Same as when I was as a kid. I'm probably the only one who can spend a week at my moms and come home weighing less. 1200 calories a day seems to do the trick for me.... Think I'm going to start eating like my mom again ;)

Interruptions aplenty, so there are many posts ahead of this one now that I haven't CUOPed. This may seem out of place by now.

((Dee)) I'm sure you and dd are doing the best you can. My kneejerk reaction was to recommend the "I'm the parent and that's that." mode. But I catch myself, realizing you and dd have a different situation on your hands with dgd. Compromising on doors - I have odd reasons to keep doors partially open around here sometimes, as you can imagine, and have my tricks, with men's houseslippers inside the room as soft, safe doorstops at about 5-6 inches opening, that sort of thing. Don't know if that would help, or just get guests to naturally glance in the room more, lol. I hope the day went well. At least if there is difficulty, the company who doesn't believe dgd is difficult may have to admit it. (Now, that was not a nice thought, but I think your dd deserves understanding!)

I see sherinjoy is adventuring.

Thanks Cowinkie for knowledgeable chat about how weather may be affecting Elizabeth's travel. I would not have put that together.

Several here needed hugs yesterday and I didn't have time to give them. I was so glad to read the hugs of others.

I demonstrated how I could walk around dd's room this morning. :D She has the middle of the floor clear. There is hope. IKWYM, blessed.

Our evening was intended to end early, but somehow we ended up greeting the new year and I got a kiss. Slept very well although all of us seem to be suffering a bit of allergies. They were extreme in dd14 after she and Sammie walked outdoors yesterday, so I feel confident there is some kind of outdoor allergen. Hmmm... ...

Our first-day meal was beans with bacon (oops, no black-eyed peas), and spinach. We considered cooking down collards, but honestly, that's like a project and right now I need to say "no new projects".

I've gotten those last-minute gifts purchased (yesterday) and wrapped (today). I used my favorite of the child's gift tags I made for the handicapped child, writing the letters of her name in the round bellies of the six little snowmen holding hands across the sticker. I know she won't understand that, but it may please her older sister. I gave clothes - really don't feel confident choosing the right toy for her special needs.

Evening dailies done well. Really tiring day. Enjoyed many other posts but no time to respond since alarm goes off early again.
