((((Kathryn)))) Agree with those that think there is much no one can control, and it drives everyone batty trying. As I know "someone" who was 9wks when she told me a due date of 26 or was that 28 July. So the middle of the month is prior to that. Maybe your dd is in the "I do not dare to hope and don't want to jinx it" territory of hoping something stays put until fulltime.
I have just had an epiphany of my own. the above someone I know had periods of withdrawal. Maybe she too is tied up in an emotional roller coaster of her own. ((((dd)))) and she was really wanting to wait until 3mths was up but her step mum guessed. It was like she hadn't wanted to tell me/anyone yet. I can feel out of the loop and cross too as it seems to me like the dsm has much more involvement in her life, and I am just told to stay away. And I can be hurt, or try to be understanding. I guess I need both parts to be accepting of a situation outside of my control.
dm had an attitude of telling no one anything until half term. dsis elder lost many and I knew nothing about any of it. It would have given me a bit more compassion to her if I had known at that stage. And there was rejection (she felt) from others in her friends/aquaintences with children as time went by, as if childlessness was a choice.
dsil lost one late then spent a good 4 mths in hospital waiting for their only dd - now a live at home mother of 3 - so they are having lots of child rearing practice late in life.
Or like Ivy has found - some babies have no respect for due dates and come way early and survive against the odds. There really is no predicting.
For dd.1 - I went thinking to stay 3weeks. After 2 weeks I was told they had to learn to do this on their own and to go home after 2 weeks.
dd.2 let me visit her in hospital. She was not open to home visits of any length.


My suggestion would be to find a cruise way in advance. Book it and tell dd when you will be unavailable. Then its up to her if she tries to accomodate when you are unavailable. or not.
and truely - if you were sick like last year then home would be where you have to be new babe or no new babe..

Sending good thoughts for dd, prayers for you - that the time for heart ache will be past soon.

Lynlee: it also occurred to me that had dd's plans gone perfectly, I would have become a grandmother last August. And, as you said, been absolutely useless to her and desperately unhappy as a result. So I see unexpected change in their plans as a blessing. But as she puts it in her blog post this month: "It’s handy that I had already lost my faith. Such randomness for no reason is the kind of thing that breaks me - I never bought the “bigger plan” story. There’s just my plan, someone else’s plan that works out perfectly, and another person who gets what I want as the thing that ruins their plan (reconciliation with anyone who got pregnant by accident seems unlikely in my current state of mind)."

Wasted this evening but at least I got the dishes done. Had some green tea. Have a headache now. Not sure if the two are related. I don't like green tea so I'd like to think they are!

(Kathryn) I don't have any other wisdom, but it must be hard to put your life on hold, while hoping for the best for your DD, still trying to live your own life. I don't think it's a usual thing for women to want their mothers there for that long before and after a baby's birth, it sounds like she is scared to me. I had a couple years of infertility and I can say I agree with blessed that it's a very hard thing to live through. I feel for you both.

Telephone calls interrupted my working away at a turtles' pace today. And a neighbor came by to be friendly and chatty...and this is one lady who hasn't said 3 words to us since we moved here. I was very surprised and gave her all the time she needed to talk with me.

But I did manage to get the last of that paperwork done and ready for the mail. There is not too terribly much left to do before I am ready for the CPA. 2 more reports and lots of copies to make and some organizing. Then I sit and wait for others to get their stuff to me. I'm usually done first.

Well, we ordered our fridge, stove and MW. It will be delivered later in January.

Picked up samples and prices for granite counter-tops. It will be less expensive than the plastic kind. Think I have found the most wonderful patterned one done in browns with a touch of cream and a soft moss green in the background. I think it will go very well with my SW color palette.

Haven't CUOP yet. I'm bushed from driving (well, DH was behind the wheel - but I was navigating) and have a half headache from the ride home against the sun. New car GPS worked very well.

I have no new words of wisdom to share... everyone has given you such good thoughts to add perspective to this whole issue. I'm just so sorry you're having to deal with it.

No time, really, to post. Just wanted to say hello to all of you!

BUSY BUSY DAY, and I've been on granny-duty since around 1:00 p.m. DS brought dgs to me @ school (teacher workday) and I showed him off to all my buddies there.
Then he & I went to the cleaners, drug store, bank, home for his supper, back to town for pizza for mine, then dmom called.
They are in Houston and had forgotten VIPs! * VERY IMPORTANT PAPERS. (Ddad's health records for doctor tomorrow.) She said, "They were lying there on the computer desk, and when your aunt & uncle came in this morning, I just completely forgot about them!" So she asked me to go to their house & fax them to her @ hotel. That took some doing b/c she had to talk me through the fax machine... and it kept trying to eat a couple of the pages... but we got it done.
Back home.
Also have talked to daunt and dmil on phone.
Ironing. 8 pair of pants to do; then I will be caught up to where I started washing today.
S/S toilets.
Kitchen is clean; bottles are washed.
Washed two loads of clothes and the blanket I use for a Christmas tree skirt.
At school -- got all grades into computer.

All the decorations are off both trees. I want to use the box from the old tree for the new tree since it didn't come with a box. So I put the old tree in a large tree size plastic container. There wasn't enough room for all 4 sections, so I put one section in a box. If I damaged the tree by putting it in a different size container I can throw it away next year. So tomorrow I can get all of the other stuff packed and put away, too. I wanted dh to take apart the new tree but his motorcyle trip buddy came over after work and they were in the garage for 3 1/2 hours. This guy and his wife are on the brink of splitting up. They divorced at one time and then have been back together about 9 years. They never remarried but are now common-in-law. Anyway, I don't want to tackle taking down the new tree. Instead of the lights for each section plugging in, you have to somehow screw them together. So dh can do that tomorrow after work. It is doable that I will be done with this tomorrow night.

Under our stairway it is finished with drywall, painted, with a light. I had stored Christmas stuff under there and luggage. I have Christmas stuff stored in 2 other areas, also. I decided that I should put stuff from the large storage closet where the luggage had been. This is stuff that I don't want to get rid of right now but it doesn't deserve to be accessible at all times either. Then the luggage can be more accessible. I want to get that large walk-in closet so you can walk-in, instead of stack or throw in.

Dh said he is going to start the demolition of our master bath this weekend, so he can get started on redoing it. We also need to get carpet picked out, so it can be ordered after they measure the house. Upstairs we will be recarpeting our room, the hallway, living room and dining room. Then we will do the stairway, family room and guest bedroom in the basement. The carpet in the 3 bedrooms that I call my library, the playroom and the Raggedy Ann room has newer, in great condition colorful carpet. So we will just leave it. Both upstairs baths have some ceramic tile and then carpet. When dh is done, both will just have ceramic tile.

Last summer when dd2 was buying old chairs and tables to paint for her shop, she bought an oak library table for $45.00. I ended up buying it from her after we both decided it would be a shame to paint it. I put it in the sunroom to put my toaster oven on, so I could bake during the summer. Last week dh had to move a small workbench that he no longer needs out of his garage, so that the could get his other motorcycle parked in his garage instead of mine. He put this workbench in the sunroom. So I decided to use it for my toaster over and bring in this oak table and put it where the Christmas tree has been. Before I bring it in though it will need to be cleaned. I am also going to try some of that wood restorerer that I bought for the cabinets and haven't used yet. I am going to put it on the backside of one of the legs and see what it looks like before I do the whole thing.

Dd2 is changing her hours effective Jan. 8. She is going to start opening at 1 pm Tuesday thru Friday and close at 8 pm. Saturday will be 10 am to 8 pm, Sunday will stay 1 pm to 5 pm. She will stay open after hours for groups or parties. By not going to work until 1, she is hoping she can get a handle on cleaning her house, buying groceries, etc. Since she started working on her shop in July, she had flew by the seat of her pants. She is wanting to get organized enough that when she goes home, there is food to cook in a clean house. Instead of picking up fast food half the time. She said and I quote " getting organized is the only way I can continue to live with my stupid decision to open a business." She has felt like life is passing her by while she tries to do so much with no time to enjoy the kids.

Blah, blah, blah. Guess I better head to bed, so that I can hit it again tomorrow.
