Touch the earth, love the earth, her plains, her valleys, her seas. Rest your soul in her solitary places. ~Henry Beston
Booksaver: don't ever let feeling disconnected from us, keep you from popping in, even if you don't have time to CUOP. Just jump back in, starting from where you are. The past is over with.
I started yet another load of laundry, folded and put away the load that was on my drying rack and replaced it with a delicate load I had run earlier today but hadn't yet hung.
After the load in the machine now, Mt. Washmore will be down to one load, sheets, which I'll run overnight and hang out tomorrow morning in the sunshine. I'm pretty sure there will be sun because 1) it was forecast and 2) the day today got brighter and brighter as the clouds moved out.
The dishwasher is air-drying its load now and the oven is in cool-down mode so the smoky smell is clearing out. I always remember to shut the bedroom door when I do this because the smell really bothers me, especially when trying to sleep. I think this is the earliest I ever ran the self-cleaner so the smoke will be cleared out by bed and I might even have time to wipe the ash out of the oven. It will be good to have it clean again - it should have been done in December but with the turkey day coming up I didn't see the point! Now there's no turkey until the end of March and only a few roast between now and then. We mainly use the counter-top oven now. Hope there's room for it at the new place - I can't imagine living without it.
I'm satisfied with my outside work today inside not so much. We did not go any where h. seemed to need a day at home as he's still in pj's. I was irritated with him as I had mentioned I would like a burger grilled and said it was nice out at four, then after sun down he proceeds to get moving along that train of thought, he had dosed off and did not get around in time. But it was past five so I've already decided I was out of luck for that & started cooking mine on the stove. I was out of sorts.
Dgd is napping on the couch. I've picked up the basement, cleared some of the counter and it needs more attn.
We have day light until five now so that is great news! Yea for that.
Kathryn & Blessedw2 ~ Thank you for the kind words. I checked my stats and looks like I posted on Monday and then not again until this evening. Weird, because I think I checked in once a day to make sure there weren't any emergencies here, and I certainly talked to all of you ... just obviously didn't use my fingers to send any words down the phone line.
Scattered mentioned Vit D this morning and that reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask you vitamin supplement users. What time of day to you take yours? or doesn't it make any difference? I have a bottle of D but keep forgetting to take any, so I need to figure out a routine time for it. Probably a question for our H&F thread but if I jump over there, I'm likely to get so interested in reading that I'll forget to ask.

On Downton Abbey last week, the butler was training the new footman in all of the different shapes of spoons. Footman didn't know that a bouillon spoon is different than a soup spoon, and neither did I. We don't even have soup spoons right now, we just use tablespoons. I keep thinking there's no point to buying stainless steel soup spoons when what I really want is porcelain Chinese soup spoons ... but haven't had any luck finding those. Guess I should give up and order some online.
Tried to check in before but couldn't get page 4 to load. Glitch, I guess. Did something else and came back.
I didn't get a whole lot done today, like I wanted, but the necessary was done. I got groceries, stuff we'd used up during the week and tonight's dinner for us and to take to someone. It took a long time to make that dinner, baked chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, gravy. But I took him his and came back and we had ours and I got it all cleaned up. There is enough left for tomorrow.
I broke the news to DH about what I found surfing about recovery from hip replacement. He was so surprised. It was hard to tell him what I read, knowing he had his heart set on something easier. He worked the first half of the day and I don't know what they were doing, he even had extra help, but he was in rough shape the rest of the day. Spent a few hours in bed. Ran out to see a customer, came home to eat, went back to bed. sigh...it is hard to watch this.
(Harriet) I am sorry things are so difficult. I get concerned if just the phone rings in the middle of the night and it's hard to go back to sleep. You are so very lucky that HRH helps you with your DFather.
Wanted to send some (((BIG HUGS))) Harriet's way... for you and HRH... I just can't even imagine how stressful it must be sometimes at your house...
and more (((BIG HUGS))) to Harmony & Mr. Harmony... so frustrating for both of you...
I usually can sleep through anything, but dh -- who stays up half the night -- says once he does go to sleep, if he ever is awakened, he's awake for the rest of the night! That's a little bit of an exaggeration, but he does have a lot more trouble getting back to sleep than I do.
Hello, BookSaver!!! IKWYM -- I've been sooo out of the loop this week. I get behind, and I feel like I'm not responding to anyone, and I know just what you mean. But Indiana & others told me a long time ago, just as Kathryn & others told you today -- apologies are not necessary, everyone understands, just jump back in when you can. That's why we call it Post WHEN YOU CAN, I guess.
I enjoyed reading about the color symbolism in Gatsby. Thanks, Cowinkie, for doing our homework for us!
Also wanted to tell elly -- we tithe also, and I agree with you totally. (DH and I have an ongoing/sporadic discussion re: whether one should tithe off his/her gross or net income, and we probably don't make it off our gross, but I think we cover our net and maybe a little more.)
I have an unhappy baby boy right now. He has such a terrible rash -- partly caused b/c he drools so badly and keeps his neck wet and raw all the time -- but partly what the doctor has diagnosed as a yeast infection. It's mostly on his neck, but some on his diaper area, and some just on his chest. I'm afraid he's going to have very sensitive skin. He has a cream to put on it, but it doesn't really work all that well, so far as I can tell. He has made it just great all day, as long as he's been busy & active, but now that he's in his crib, I think it bothers him more and he just keeps scratching and rubbing at it... which of course, makes it worse.
