Welcome to February Friday

Post by Lynlee »

Democracy is the art of thinking independently together.
Alexander Meiklejohn (philosopher - born 1872)

It is the neglect of timely repair that makes rebuilding necessary.
He only is exempt from failures who makes no efforts.
Richard Whately (a writer - born 1787)

The home to everyone is to him his castle and fortress, as well for his defence against injury and violence, as for his repose.
Edward Coke (businessman - born 1552)
Quotes from rumbling around the quotes of folk born Feb 1. http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/birth ... ary_1.html
Then I went looking at olden time jottings and like these.

Sending blessings for our democracies. For whichever country we live in may all the leaders work for the good of the country.
And may we rejoice for the democracy we live in.
Our PM just named the election date for September. Mostly they are call the date 3 weeks in advance - but everyone knew it would be this year. There are those still fighting about the outcome of the last election. I expect vigorous debate, and maybe a degree of muddy poli-picking.

May we be a blessing to our families and households this February, as we attempt timely efforts within our castle.
Do you have something specific to work on this month?
Just begin.
Living this day, today
Take a reality check; Remember to breathe; Do what I am able to do.
Look for the good in all.

I wish to maintain daily dish washing,
and aim to completely change my ways in order to have left the kitchen and living room by 10pm,
with the hope of earlier to bed, more energy for daytime pursuits.
Again - If I could tick all the boxes on my checklist, overall things would have to be getting better,
so long as I am not adding chaos as I go.
Just begin.

LynLee - Good Evening, trying to eliminate chaos in your life sounds like a marvelous proposition, I wish I could join you.

Last night I was on the phone until after class was supposed to begin because of last minute admissions that the office wants me to do today. The positive side-effect is that I am "going in" a half hour late this morning. I have that in quotes because I am actually leaving from home to go straight to the clients house, but I don't have to leave until 9:00. 8-) I need to do a little computer work before I head out.

I might actually get something extra done this morning before I leave.

Lynlee, I had seen a news report that speculated she might set a September date, and discussed what that might mean. Hugs to you as you face the delight  of a long political race. Yes, we rejoice in democracy, however frustrating it may be sometimes.

First day of the month and monthly threads are popping up! We are corraling clutter, filing cards, crafting creativity, and - hmmm... - getting remarkably fit, it seems. The January Health and Fitness thread was the longest of any monthly H and F thread in memory here, and, except for the infamous "What I Ate!" thread of August, 2010, I believe it may be the longest monthly thread on any subject we've had.

If you don't believe in miracles, you're not being realistic.

Harriet - Good Morning and thank you so much for all you do to keep the Village nice and tidy.

Got the computer work done for work, so now I need to finish my SDR & GRWR and get out of here. Have a Great Day Everybody!

Thanks for the wish, Lynlee!

My goal for February is to clear absolutely all sewing supplies and costumes/vintage clothing out of the dining room. There, I wrote it -- now I have to do it!

Today's goals:
* fill a bag with books to donate to the library
* go to post office
* volunteer 2 hours at the library
* update library group's financial reports
* update sewing group's financial reports
* cook corned beef & cabbage for supper
* continue office closet cleanout

Lucylee ~ You wondered why your aunt hasn't asked about watching dgs and then mentioned that she's had a bad cold. I bet that's the answer. If she had the virus that's been going around here, it hangs on forever. She's probably wanting to be well over the germs before exposing the baby. Maybe she's still feeling tired, but on the other hand, if you ask her maybe watching the baby would cheer her up.

Good morning, and where did January go? So much I "meant to do" before the onset of tax season that is undone. Will muddle through somehow.

I am not working today. This has been a busy, stressful week at work and I really need to do some other things today. I am going to wait around for the mail hoping that the form that the hospital had dsis sign gets to me in today's mail. That will allow the SSA people to talk to me about her SSI claim and get it started. They may be willing to talk to me w/o it, but the paperwork will assure I can represent her. Either way, I'll head to the office there after the mail runs, with or without the form.

I need to do things around the house today, and make an appt for a pedicure today or tomorrow. I am not planning to go to temple tonight - I am already feeling oversocialized for the weekend and dh wants to invite the rabbi and his wife over on Sunday evening for a simple chili dinner. We also have very big black tie event tomorrow night to attend.

Looking forward, next Monday and Tuesday are very busy - both have appts for dmom scheduled so that hopefully we can go from then until after April 15. As it turns out, Monday is the first official day of our longer tax season hours also.

DDogs are making me crazy because they haven't walked yet - it's 24 degrees but I should get them out soon, I guess. This is one of the coldest mornings we've had so far this winter, I think?

First round:
-dressed, clean up and brush teeth (skipping shower today)
-clear kitchen counter, including the tall breakfast bar
-walk the dogs
-get out Feb planner
-empty the dishwasher
Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better [wo]man. Ben Franklin

I've tried 5 times to post here and been given error messages each time, even after logging out and logging back in. I'll see what happens with this. . .

Try #6.

Wonderful quotes again, Lynlee. You're doing a great job opeining us! I do like the one bookie highlighted about blessing our families. I tidied the living areas before I left yesterday, and dh noticed and appreciated it! I also made sure he and dd17 had a homemade meal by taking leftovers of a family favorite meal out of the freezer for them. :)

The meet was great! I'm so impressed by what all the girls from all the schools are doing! It was fun to watch, even though some of the routines are not yet complete. The drive there was a bit stressful though. Basically, I was driving an unfamiliar van in an unfamiliar large urban area, trying to make sure I got onto the correct interstates at the correct points, in snowy weather with 6 excited girls talking, singing, and eventually "practicing" their group routine. Dd14 was my navigator, and she was extremely helpful, until she got caught up in practicing the routine and we took a wrong exit. We got back on track and managed to get there in decent time. The drive home was a little better. At least, I managed not to make any wrong turns and the girls were sleeping. However, it was dark -- and we hit a very dense snowstorm at some point, which slowed us down. The snowstorm was very localized and visibility got better after about 15 minutes. Dd14 and I got home at 10:45. Then, dd14 had homework to do. . . .I'm sure all the girls are exhausted today. I'm just grateful that we got there and back safely. . .

I'm off now for teaching team meeting. Then, dfriend will be here at 1:30 to walk and drink tea. I don't know when we'll be done visiting. I'm feeling myself falling farther and farther behind in things. I hope to have 1.5 - 2 hours between the meetings.

Helia I was having trouble logging on to the pc last night and finally gave up not just this site others too.

Dd was having one of those reality check days you get after vacation welcome to real life, dgson was playing w/ friend instead of doing home work unsupervised, but his dad was just up the st. working. So dgson will be coming here after school again. [Dgson's teacher is still not back.] Then while she was talking to me about that she got a call sil said his mom had slipped at water aerobics and was in the hospital he was on his way there. So I have granny duty for the forseeable future.

B.S. was good today.

It was 50* here yesterday I'm SO glad I was able
to make progress on the yard work. 36-48* today's temp. range
50* next week dd & sil took the right time for their cruise in more ways than one!
