"pigs don't fly but they do swim" quote from the news. Piggery farmer has recovered some of his pigs. Some were on the roof. One was too big for him to get down so the army (engineers) helped as part of their contribution to flood assessment and recovery.
My day
office was busy - its all comparative.
Workers wrangling a fallen gum tree. More work still need on that. They took trunk for 'timber' to be used elsewhere.
a couple of enquiries and dealing with those.
My reading done today
Read a book on the book shelf. another 40 pages.
Neighbour mowed. He's hoping to join the navy in March... Not sure if that's set in stone or some assessment. I'll need to get a new mowing person.
incoming ph call
walk dog
dinner

Re: Motivational Monday
DD just left to go back to school. She was weepy and saying she didn't want to go back - I'm weepy too for her. Told her to call me later. She is feeling seriously unsettled by this. The girl will still be on the same floor/hall as dd altho in a different room - dd says if she wants to get away from her that dd will have to be the one to move off the hall, and she doesn't want to do so.
I am trying to decide whether to call her Hall Director - dd left her biz card here as they had been in touch over the weekend. We asked dd if she wanted us to get involved and she doesn't but I'm wondering if a word to Hall Director would be wise?

Re: Motivational Monday
LynLee - Good Evening, sleep well. I loved the quote from Charles Lindbergh, thank you.
Twins - (((DD))) hugs to your DD, being a meddling Mom myself I would advise to let her deal with it until she asks for your interference, otherwise she could turn her anger toward you.
I have another busy week in front of me including an interview for DS14 at another one of the Specialty Centers. I am pulling for the Governor's school, but he really likes the school he has the interview at. I am giving him my insight but letting him make the decision.
Need to go get d2s and finish my SDR & GRWR, I have class tonight. Never did get my hair colored last night, maybe tomorrow night.
ToDo/TaDa
SDR & GRWR
work
class
home to do homework
Have a GREAT DAY Villagers.

Re: Motivational Monday
Thanks for the great quotes, Lynlee. Motivational - and funny!
((Twins and dd)) I'm no expert in this matter but that was a pretty serious threat. Does anyone adult in authority in the dorm know? IMHO, someone should know. Maybe encourage dd to tell them herself. If she doesn't, maybe you could. . . . Thinking out loud. .. Or would reporting it to someone in authority exacerbate the situation? I have no idea - but it seems someone needs to know b/c someone needs to be keeping tabs on this girl. . . .
It sounds like you have a lot of school options for ds14 where you are, scattered! That's great!!
We watched Ocean's Eleven last night. Even dd14 watched with us!! She is getting much braver about watching movies, I must say.
The 90 day fraud alert I put on my credit files after I was pfished 3 months ago expired yesterday, so I need to renew the alerts and get copies of my credit reports to see if anything has happened. I think I did it all online last time. Assuming I'm allowed to do this, I will keep renewing to keep the alert on my reports for at least a year.
Other goals for today: Hebrew translation work, progress on cards, laundry, exercise, order sandwich platter for the judges for the Wednesday synchro meet. . . . I'll go to the groc. store tomorrow; we have plenty of food, leftovers, a good supply of fresh fruit and veggies in the house right now.
tonight will be another one of those nights where dh and I will eat alone b/c of the girls' schedules; dd17 will be heading to Detroit to tutor this evening and dd14 has synchro. dd14 will eat afterward.
So far, I have done the usual - said good bye to the girls, made a mug of tea, let the dog out, let the dog in, checked emails, peeked in here.
Off to the a.m. routine!

Re: Motivational Monday
(((Twins))) Such a hard situation...
Well... I am up... s2s, ready to go... but ooohhh... I wish I could crawl back in bed!!!
Oh my goodness, I think I could fall asleep standing up!
The Wmart run was NOT the problem last night. It was the 2 loads of clothes I washed AFTERWARDS and the fact that I read a magazine until after 1:00 a.m. THAT is why I am so groggy this morning. * sheesh *
Hope you all have a great day!

Re: Motivational Monday
Thank you for opening Lynlee. I really enjoy your quotes and facts.
(((Twins and Twins dd))) Is this roommate the same one she had last year or a different one?
I do not have a FB page but I read dhs. I never comment, like, share, etc., since it is his page. Yesterday dgd16, daughter of dd1 made some really nasty comments about her parents on her FB page. Dh only occasionally looks at his FB page but he did yesterday. He was not happy with her comments and he proceeded to compose his own comments to her. After he posted them he told me I better read it quick, before she deletes it. Wow, his comment to her is still there this morning. I know she has had to have read it because she has added a new post since then. By her not deleting it, I think she knows that her grandpa is right. When I read what he had written, my comment to him was "Amen". We have family members, that are her "friends". One of my aunts is always telling dm about her posts. Some of them, dm is mortified by. In part, he told her that he loved her but was worried about her. That she has time to turn things around before she is an adult and will have a hard time if she doesn't. He told her she needs to realize who really cares about her and will always be there for her. He also pointed out that the people she cares so much about right now, the vast majority will be a blip in the road of her life. There was more but he did an excellent job of telling her like it is. By her not deleting it, we are hoping that she will take his words to heart. Time will tell.
The plumbers will be able to accomodate the drain to the shower system. Nothing can be done until the new one is here. We paid $770.00 for this shower system. Yesterday dh was in H D epot and they have started carrying the exact same brand and system, with a price tag of $449.00.
We are all for helping out the local business, but when they are overcharging by that much, it leaves a sour taste in your mouth. Dh said they will not be getting our business again because he will always wonder just how much they are overcharging.
Guess I better eat breakfast and do meds.....

My confusion of the day.

Hopes for an uneventful week to Twins' Mom's dd.
Good job, Lilac's dh. Grandfathers are to be seen, heard, and considered carefully.

My question is: assuming every total amount at cash register has a random ending cent, then doesn't this really amount to an average increase of several cents per purchase forever? How does the savings of .6 cents over the 25-year lifetime of each penny possibly compare with a forever-increase like that? Are the retailers keeping this "rounded up" money or sending it to the government? Percentage-of-a-cent sales tax increases are fought with a furor everywhere, aren't they? Right now percentage-of-a-cent increases are proposed in several US cities and causing great debate and anger, probably won't pass. So how is this "round up to the nearest 5 cents" not just as upsetting? Also, isn't it like an unfair tax on people who make mostly small purchases?"Retailers are being asked to round up to the nearest 5 cents."
