Hello Villagers! :D

All this talk about King Richard the III is so interesting! :!:

It's sunny, at times, here, with occasional very light showers, at times. It's supposed to rain and be windy, but that's the Seattle forecasting for the rest of us and it doesn't always happen for us, like it does them.

I wrote my OMM (On My Mind) list last night, on a legal pad, with colored pens. I'll work from that list today and I got out my home journal again, too. :!: I need to USE them! :)

Waving to Everyone! :D Gotta go! Starting late today. Need to get s2s so I can get started, too.

TTFN.

I'm back from the groc. store!! I need to finish unloading.

Thank you, Harriet, for ministering to my cynical soul. I still think biases are out there, but maybe there is some hope. Good point re: online vs. hard copy news. I actually haven't spent much time digging around, but all I've found are online articles - although, none of the newspapers we get would likely publish it. We get a national paper which would likely not carry this, and the local paper is rather. . .small. It is now a 2x/week delivery. There is an online version too, but I don't get my news online. I don't know if the University's newspaper has published anything or not. The online version has, from the U's perspective, of course. . . . I first heard about the media attention on fb. Apparently, an online article was circulating around fb and a friend of ours in PA who has met dfriend S in the past forwarded it to me to ask what was going on. The online article was from a very well-known national TV news company. We should be seeing S on Thursday, so we'll ask her all about the extent of media involvement.

Off to finish unloading. And putting away.

I agree - the Richard III stuff is interesting!

So off track now, I'm a bit discouraged.

My friend had time to kill between her morning at a dr. appointment and her 3 p.m. shift, so I didn't get home until 3:20 (but did pick up the mail on the way home.) It was a good lunch but too long - I had hoped to be home by 1:30 so lost an extra 2 hours.

I have vacuumed and dusted the main floor and the basement so the house is looking a bit better (I did some tidying while dusting.) Before leaving this morning I created a February wreath for the front door and then after getting back, I went through my sister's desk (where I keep all my seasonal decorations) and tossed stuff I won't be using and organized the rest. So a bit of dejunking has been done today (and that wasn't on my to-do list, along with watering the plants, which I've done too.)

Now it is time to prepare dinner. Something interesting with the leftovers.

Good afternoon everyone! The insurance person has come and gone. Insurance will not cover the damage, but since it is likely to cost less than my deductible, that is not really an issue. The best result - I do not need a new roof! I do need roofing tar in places, and this can be DIY for ~$30. That will stop any further damage from being done. Then the inside can be dealt with on my own timeframe. I will do the tar this Saturday (thank goodness no rain/snow is expected). I need to check the attic for mold. If there is any, the insurance lady told me how to deal with it. After that is done, ceiling drywall needs to be cut out, replaced, textured, and painted. I may hire a man from church to deal with the drywall. Or if I am feeling real cheap, maybe I will learn how to do it myself.

I have emailed XDH to borrow ladder. Tonight is Girls' Night Out, I expect Chinese and Chuck E Cheese. I will get DD's list of invitees to her birthday party and set that up. After she has left, I need to put the trash out, pick up meds, LOL, and check to see if I have a Visual Basic compiler. Tomorrow, I suppose I will buy the roof tar.

Harriet: While I have not been rewarding dFosterCat13 immediately after her meds, I did sit with her for two hours. She likes to sit with me for crochet/video time. Yesterday, she was acting totally miserable, probably because she is. I hope they find out what is wrong quickly and that it is an easy fix. Last time I had a cat with intestinal hemorrhaging, she had to take pills for life, and after 2.5 years, died of it.

The best result - I do not need a new roof!
That is great news, Elizabeth!

Has been another long day - left work early because dh called me that Macs "had fallen and couldn't get up." Dh said he was splayed out with back legs spread. Both of us wondered if he would need to be put down tonight but he finally scrambled up when dh cracked open the peanut butter to give him pain meds. This was just before I walked through the door. He seems okay - a little sore but otherwise not bad now.

Temple issues today that I don't know how to resolve from little old ladies who feel entitled because they have been members their entire life. And they sucked in a new member to help them - he now wants reimbursement for his money spent that no one authorized. And IMHO this isn't even a temple project as they title it a community project.

Long dr appt with dmom. She put in her hearing aid today but failed to replace the battery so couldn't hear anything again today. :? Very hard for her to answer questions and I can't even read the forms to her - this arthritis doc has a whole battery of questions about how much pain, what she is able to do easily and cannot do at all etc. Late getting to dr appt then waited a long time and I am just very frustrated.

Email today that I need to go to GA county in which I filed for guardianship for dsis to be fingerprinted. That will be another morning or afternoon out of the office.

I'd quit work tomorrow if I could but CPAs don't leave their job during tax season unless they are fired, or never want to work in accounting again.

Dd's roommate moved out last night and she called at 12 a.m. to tell me she was alone in her room. I was asleep of course. Haven't heard anything else but last night she was extremely concerned that she would somehow be the bad guy to their mutual friends. The roommate's father is seriously ill and dying so apparently everyone is very sympathetic. I texted dd this morning to call if she needed to talk and haven't heard anything so I assume all is well.

I don't know how long I can keep going with dmom, dsis, dd, work, temple, and home with dh and ddogs. I am trying to take one day at a time...

So glad that Macs is okay. He is my dog through and through.

I'm sorry to be a downer tonight.

((Twins' Mom)) if it is true things go in cycles, you are certainly due for a time of calm very soon. ((Macs)) I assume your dmother's batteries are "13s" like my ddad's and also DangerBoy's. My advice would be to buy your own little pack the next time you are in the drug store and just keep them in your pocketbook. Sometimes when least expected one will go dead while away from home and you can remedy quickly. Sounds like you handled the day as well as possible. I will tell you that for years I had no idea how to put batteries into my ddad's hearing aids because he just did it himself all the time. Now he can't remember how to do it anymore, and so I'm glad I learned how. Also, I found out the hard way that he would completely forget where he was keeping the hearing aids and they would be lost for weeks unless I made a point of insisting on only one particular place for them at all times. By now, of course, with the most recent lost one and never found again, probably flushed or thrown away, that place is no longer in his room or accessible to him, and only HRH and I know where it is.

Just a thought, Elizabeth : veterinarians many decades ago, and veterinarians in foreign countries now, particularly the Mediterranean area, would prescribe mastic gum (the resin of the pistachio tree) in powder form for gastrointestinal problems, for digestive tract hemorrhage such as bleeding ulcer or duodenal ulceration. It has no side effects and might fall under the "couldn't hurt" category if other things don't help. Here's one company that makes a cat supplement with the mastic gum but I would think a vet might be able to come up with a dosage for just adding the powder found at any vitamin store to food. It has a "tree" odor, but is tasteless. By the way, if I were a cat, I would want to crochet. That sounds very cat-comforting, like a cat treat.

"The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones."
Dmom and dh had the same English teacher in high school, a lady who was well-known for making students recite passages from Julius Caesar on demand. They both -- and everyone in our town who went through high school in those years -- basically memorized the entire play. Both can still recite many passages today. This quote is one that stuck w/dmom particularly. So true.

Well... dgs is napping... I should be!!! MUCH MUCH MUCH to do around here and here I sit on the computer!

I did manage to spot clean walls in kitchen and hallway while talking on phone to daunt.

Went to next town over and deposited check for dparents today.
Sorted their mail, checked plant.
Talked to both dparents.
Played on the floor w/dgs.
Fed dgs.
Talked to dmil.
Talked to ddil.

That IS great news, Elizabeth! I am so happy for you!

(((Twins))) (((BIG HUGS)))

Waving to EVERYONE!!!
Tomorrow is another day.
