Ash Wednesday - Looking within

Harriet: shows how often I go to Joys and Concerns! There's an issue that may need to be addressed so the thread may be moving again after I hear from people.

For me, Lent isn't the issue, it is the reminder that it is Ash Wednesday. That means I'm babysitting tonight so we have to have an early dinner!

I've s2s, had breakfast, and swept the kitchen floor. Still moving fairly slowly here.

Edited to add: just got a phone call and I'll be taking my friend to the hospital for a test in 45 minutes. So I need to get this week's service sent to the church secretary.

Sipping a Sprite to settle my stomach. I bent over to unload a laundry basket and felt nauseous. I am trying to think positive (1) because I have the badly needly hair appt and (2) the plumbers will be here this afternoon and there is no where for me to be comfortable that they won't be in/thru. Yuck!

I will continue to work on laundry but the cleaning might have to wait.

Hi everybody!

Another day home from work. I had 2 doses of cough syrup yesterday (prescription strength) and today I feel good in all ways except I'm "glistening". Could be my 51 year old body's internal heat source, or it could be just the last goodbyes from a fever and my body getting rid of the last of the toxins or (the best bet) it's just too hot in here because Mike tends to like being in a rain forest.


Mike is going out soon (lunch with his best friend and then off to his mom and dad's). So I have a choice.

Dusting.

Nap.

Shopping.

I think I might have to test the new battery in the car.

Good Morning! I just got blown off so I will try it again. We had a wonderful "Fat Tuesday" last night at Cowinkie and Sweeties house. She fixed Shrimp Gumbo and we had a King's Cake. My very first Mardi Gras dinner. She made the cake - more like a wonderful pecan breakfast roll and I loved it. Next February I will be sure to start wearing my green, gold and purple beads she gave us early so she gets the hint. Afterwards we watched FLIGHT with Denzel. Great show! He is one of my favorites. What a good actor! Having been at one time married to an alcoholic who never gave it up, I celebrated Whip's sobriety.

Just had a great conversation with Sweetie this morning. My Dad was one of the old timer Ham Radio Operators and Sweetie is going to look him up in the archives. It was fun to tell him about my wonderful Dad who has been gone now since 1999 and he still manned his radio until he died at 93. Now I am teary.

The Truman quote reminds me of a Dostoevsky quote along the same lines -- not so feminine, though. I'll post it when I find it/remember it.

I can commiserate with the sleep for teens issue, a very timely comment for us. Dd14 got home from her meet a little before 11 pm last night, still needing to do homework, which she couldn't work on at the meet b/c she was helping the coach record scores. Then, at 11:15 last night in the middle of her homework, she told us that she is thinking of trying out for the next school play. Dh asked about the time commitment, and she said it was greater than synchro - which actually is pretty low-key as sports go. (For example, the swim team is at school at 5:30 a.m., and they swim again after school until 5/5:30. Every day. They practice on Saturdays too. We have friends whose kids are high school swimmers here.) Anyhow, dh was a bit flabbergasted at the idea of another time commitment in her schedule - but stayed calm. At 11:25, I went to bed. Dh stayed up with her as he had to stay up quite late anyway with work, as usual. This morning, dd14 had decided not to go to the school play informational meeting after school today after all; if she had, she would have stayed on for synchro (no point in going home after a 3:30 meeting when you need to be back at 5:15) and not gotten home from school until close to 8 pm.

OK, I'm off to finish the a.m. routine. I have taken care of some email business odds and ends. I did wash out the closet recycling bins this a.m. as dh had left them in the kitchen sink last night - full of sudsy water, but still.

Waving morning to y'all...

Yes we, Sweetie and I, had a great time last night with Norma and Mr. Guy..but then again we always do

Helia...having been the asst. director and producer of our drama club for many years, I can tell you the committment to a school production/play is great. Here is what my schedule would look like. 4 - 4:45 homewok time for the kids. 4:45-5:15 dinner. 5:30 to 8:00 practice. Four days a week and sometimes five. We also worked many Sat. once we got closer to the show date. It was a 9 week committment in the fall and 9 weeks in the spring. We sent letters to the parents making them aware of how much time would be involved with the productions. We produced 14 shows in 8 years....We had the best attendance at our shows in all of Mesa's Jr. HS. It was during this time that I met and later worked with my Sargent, who btw is now on US soil.

I'm off to the library to pick up some books that are on hold. Sweetie just informed me he has made a dinner reservation for us tomorrow. That put a big smile on my face, as this was a surprise for me. .... Later

Good morning! I did not get everything done last night that I wanted to. I still have to wrap DD's presents and send niece's card. I did get the fabric boxes in the LR put away. Today is day 3 of my crazy week. This afternoon, I have a parent teacher conference. I am going to miss the Ash Wednesday service, because the animal org board is meeting. There is no Bible study because of the service, so I will not fall behind there. Before I leave for the conference, I need to finish the minutes from the last meeting, print some agenda stuff, and email someone.

The board had an interesting 'problem' with my minutes. Too detailed! I take notes like I did in college, which approaches word for word. They like having the details, but since the minutes are public records, they don't want the complete discussions available. Sometimes we discuss problems/situations that involve individuals and that is not really appropriate for public records. So, now I am to have a set of notes (the full details) and minutes that synopsize it. Slightly more work, but not much.

My Valentines Day gift to myself is not likely to be here by tomorrow. I could not have ordered it any sooner, because I ordered it as soon as I found out about it. Oh well, I have plenty to work on already.

Slogging along.

It's beautiful outside and I'm feeling the tiniest bit of cabin fever. Therefore, I think I'll go out for a burger for lunch and then drive to The Big City for cat food and a few groceries.

Should be good for the car, too, to give the battery a good charge before the cold front due to hit tomorrow.

Tonight must crunch some numbers for sewing group and start figuring out agenda for Tuesday's meeting. If there is nothing urgent on the agenda, I may cancel the meeting to save everyone's time and gas.
