Last nights news showed a woman scooping up a large lung fish from a flooded Gympie carpark , and put it in some in deeper water. The water was still rising at the time. Here's hoping today as the water recedes it (and any of its family) has found its way into a place where there will be safe. An ancient species - A lung fish has both lungs and gills, and while they can endure a muddy water hole as the river dries out, town center living is not really a good place for it. It will take a while for the 18+ meters of additional water in the river to go down. The one pictured was 2-3 foot in length.
(The same river system has a turtle with lungs and gills too.)

Re: Wednesday PWYC
I'm s2s, meds done, breakfast done, bed made and I'm sipping coffee. Will be leaving in 20 minutes or so to take gd to school. Then dh and I have to make a trip to Englewood, FL -long ways down the Gulf coast from here. Only plan on dropping some things off for dcampowner to take back to NY with him -stay long enough to visit for a 1/2 hour or so. Then it's back here to pick up gd this afternoon.
I slept pretty well last night but once I awoke at 5 my head was filled with running around thoughts of gd.
As dd said last night, it's hard to explain the stress this one child has caused in this entire household.
Guess I'd better get our things gathered for our day trip. Want to take drinks and snacks with us. BBL later this afternoon.
Did converse with dh's dr's office and with the medical insurance people yesterday --still trying to get his prescription for his esophageal medicine! Hopefully, this will do it. The insurance will only allow 45 days with no refills on this at 2 a day. He has to take the 2 a day because of 1) repeated esophagus spasm attacks & 2) Barrett's Esophagus. Hopefully that's 'drummed in' now.

Lynlee, I hope the wildlife finds refuge through the tough weather situations. Wow, those Longfellow quotes are powerful and wise. I will try to remember Steinbeck's "committee of sleep".
Dee, best wishes to Mr. DeeClutter as you two try to get them to understand this.
I, too, have had to have acid controlling on my mind. Harmony will not be surprised to hear that I finally hit a problem as I added in more fruit variety, and the blackberries seem to have been one potentially acidic fruit too many. I noticed they were rather tart, but was still going by their usual acid/alkaline ph number, which isn't soooo bad. Forgot that we have to judge the individual fruit and be sensible, as well. Today I added oatmeal to my breakfast with sweet cherries.
I feel like I'm still recuperating from sleep deprivation. I was up in the night several times including the super early morning when the only person awakened by dd14's early alarm was me. Sigh. Poor Tobias. He had a good time accompanying me on my nap yesterday and tried to stay at my feet in the night, but I am too "on call" to suit him. That's awful when you have to arise so many times your cat finds a quieter place.

Re: Wednesday PWYC
It was a rough night, starting around 2:15 when the tree branches started cracking and falling. . . . I was awake for about 2 hours. 1 very large branch fell against our house, against the girls' bedroom window, around 3:15 a.m. I went down to check on them. It was the window by dd14's bed, and she said she jumped out of bed when it crashed against the house. I don't think there was any damage; the house is brick on outside. We will check the window more closely for cracks later.
The trees on our property are large and very old and very beautiful. Whoever planted the trees here did a wonderful job, so I'm really sad to see the damage wreaked on them by this heavy snow. We lost about 1/3 of the branches on our white pine, which has been estimated to be 100+ years old. It loses branches every storm, it seems. Our saucer magnolia has lost 3 of 5 main branches; our crabapple lost 2 large lower branches. One of the branches narrowly missed the chicken coop when it fell! Our redwood lost one branch, not bad. Our huge apple tree lost a few branches too. It was just a mulberry ? tree in our forested area that lost the branch that fell and hit the girls' window; it lost another larger branch too. We haven't yet walked down the small street (only 3 houses) that borders our property to the north, on the side of our wooded area, to see if we need to clear out branches from our trees that may have fallen on the street.
It is interesting to see which trees fared well. Our large oak, our maple, and our Japanese maple each lost nothing/1 small branch (not connected to the trunk).
Our power went out around 5 a.m. after we heard several big hums and bangs. I checked the elec. co. website, and they say power should be restored btwn. 1 and 2 a.m. Friday. Fortunately, we have a generator. Unfortunately, dh is heading out of town tonight so I'll be in charge of it.
There is a wire down along the western side of our property, including across the foot of our driveway under the snow. Dh says it is not live since it is not connected to the pole. Still, I need to figure out how to report it to the power company.
Meanwhile, dh has texted R and S about coming over since they have no power as well - and we do have heat and some functioning appliances with the generator. I think R is in a non-clinical week at work again. (He is an MD.)
Yes, it is a snow day. We got 5? inches, I believe. It is very heavy and wet b/c the temps are right around freezing. It's supposed to get up to 37 today, and then maybe we'll get 2 more inches tonight.
I'm off to call the power company and then shower.
--well, this sat here while we had difficulties with our router -- again. I have called the company and reported the downed wire.

Good Morning!
I had a wonderful sleep and woke up rip/raring to get a great start to the day. I have steadily stayed on track for the past 4 hours and am loving this feeling of accomplishment. There are a cazillion things to still be done, but that doesn't erase the feeling of how productive I've been.
Adjust. Tweak. Change. Alter. Over and over. That is what we are doing as we try to understand and help LO with his recent school anxiety. Today DH is taking LO to school. One of the suggestions I read when researching the school phobia is altering the drop off person. LO was very excited to go to school this morning because he is in charge of the classroom calendar today.
I think I might….maybe….have the reason behind he sudden school phobia. The timing is about right. About a month ago they moved about 10 of the children from other Pre-K class to LO classroom (long story behind why). One of these students got into trouble resulting in getting spanked by the principal. LO brought this incident up again last night asking if he was going to be spanked by "Mr Principal". I assured him over and over that wouldn't be happening. We speak to the principal almost every morning so it would be easy for the 3 of us to chat about it. I am hopeful that might help release this fearful thoughts from LO's mind.

Yesterday I discovered Tiny Habits and signed up for free session next week. I am looking forward to giving it a try. I am going to be using this spreadsheet to track my new tiny habits.

Re: Wednesday PWYC
Very slowly waking up today. Yesterday was busy. First I fixed my appetizer for our progressive dinner last night. 24 people, 4 houses, too much good food. Started with 3 of us making appetizers - then to house around the corner for a great salad bar set up in two places on round tables - fed a group quickly. Then across the block for lasagna, green beans and garlic bread, then next door for 3 kinds of desert and 2 kinds of ice cream. Started at 4 and got home about 8:45.
Before that, I had decoration committee meeting here and we made about 4 ft tall saguaro cactus out of cardboard. Spray painted them green. They look pretty good.
Today I have chiro and massage appointments and tomorrow we decorate the hall. Friday we make the centerpiece cactus gardens and have the dance/variety show. Saturday is the parade and craft show and then we get to undo all the decor.
Next up is shower, breakfast and meds. TTFN

Re: Wednesday PWYC
I'm unbelievably unmotivated these days.
The sound of the rain/sleet/snow on the window isn't helping any.
I'm up. Not dressed but I did make the bed. And I've had my breakfast.
My music friend had total jaw replacement surgery yesterday and is now posting on FB so she is alive (her daughter has failed to contact me to let me know everything is over and fine although that was the ONE thing she was tasked with.) The replacement may not actually solve her pain issues (there's about a 50/50 chance on that) and she will not be able to eat any crunchy food (bagels, raw veggies, etc.) But then again, she couldn't before.
She should be able to open her mouth more than .5 to 1 inch, though. Recovery is 6 months to a year. I don't have high expectations for this solving anything but do have high expectations that she'll have complications. She's that kind of person (seems to thrive on being a medical exception.)
Dh is starting a conference call now, so I'm going to go get dressed. I had him move the car out into the rain (to get washed off by God, since I'm too lazy to do it) but then the snow arrived. We are back to rain so once I'm dressed, I'll go out and wipe down the car and then bring it back into the garage.
Our field trip to apartment buildings yesterday was useful in that dh is now not considering the downtown building with no balconies. Because it was surrounded by tall buildings, the unit was dark despite lots of windows. Right from the beginning, I've had 'next to open space' as one of my criteria for a building and now dh agrees with that.

Good morning, all!
Came across a book that I thought might be helpful to Elizabeth and others here. It is called Desperate: Hope for the Mom Who Needs to Breathe by Sarah Mae and Sally Clarkson. I could have used this at times when my two were growing up!
