I'm glad you had a nice talk with dd, Kathryn.
Groc. shopping is done, unloaded, and put away. Unfortunately, I left my list at home. I remembered most items but will need to go back before I cook dinner Wed. night.
Well, now I have looked at my kitchen counters with a critical eye - and I'd say they are cluttered after all! We don't have many appliances on them, BUT we do have a lot of other stuff in addition to the appliances I mentioned above, including: the dish drainer, 2 fruit bowls, a crate of clementines, a 5 lb. bag of oranges, 2 "pots" of utensils on either side of the stove top, a vertical paper towel holder (w/ a roll of paper towels), sugar and flour canisters, dh's coffee press pot -- and I forgot about his coffee bean grinder, which also sits on the counter. And dh usually has a nice bottle of red wine sitting out as well. By the sink is hand soap and dish soap. . I measured a little, and I estimate we have about 13 feet of kitchen counter space proper - though it is oddly shaped. I have a built in "peninsula." On the other side of the peninsula, is the island, which dh made, and another counter along the wall that is about 1 foot wide by 8 feet long? This is the area by the side door, where everyone enters our house. No one uses the front door, unless they're a stranger. On this long narrow counter sit the mw, the phone, a pile of mail,
OK, off to work on my teaching notes.
