Dh called down about Boston but it didn't register, I thought it was something smaller than it was. Now I'm sitting here, sickened.

I'm also interested that they have, logically, shut down cell phone service in Boston. This makes perfect sense. When we were in India during heightened security, we could not buy cell phone chips to get service because that's how terrorists communicate and many bombs are triggered by cell phones.

Anyway, this has me thinking about all the pay phones that have been removed from public places and all the people who have no landlines. I'm glad ds doesn't live there - I'd be wanted to connect with him but he only has a cell phone.

During the Ice Storm (now 15 years ago) the only phone working in the village was the payphone at the general store because payphones are powered by the central office and those had generators. Of course, now that phone has been pulled out, "no need" for it because everyone has cell phones these days.

Crumb, the news is showing snow in Winnipeg. I don't think it is coming this way but we did have snow and ice just 4 days ago so I may be pushing the season.

I really should read more slowly. I really though K and K were playing hoCkey. Wanted to know who won and if they set up nets and called out "Carrrrr" when a car was driving down their street.

After reading about Boston on another site, I needed to try to laugh.

Thank you for good thoughts on Betty's behalf. She put her hands on the correct information and we had a confident trip. She carried her own GPS along with us, having squinted to program it in the time before I arrived, poor worried thing. We only needed it for the last quarter mile. Her doctor was very attentive to her and even sat with me a while to ask me to stay in their office 1/2 hour after she came back out to the waiting room, to make sure there was no pain and no additional surprises. He remedied the pain, which she was calling a scratching, immediately. He gave her a prescription and a next appt for follow up. I took her to the pharmacy, too, and picked up hamburger helper for her dd to make for the family tonight (her dd's specialty). I had to read everything for her, from the box of HH (which she told me to put back because she thought she was seeing velveeta) to the card-swipe thingie. Left her in the capable hands of her dd with a promise to come back and help run errands if needed. My dd is texting with her dd off and on. Doctor believes all is well, but healing is just progressing more slowly than he hoped. Ultimately, she should be fine, in fact after the exam he predicted a good percentage of eyesight regained by tomorrow and more the next day. He seems very sure.

I didn't hear the alarming news on the radio until dd and I drove away.
That had me shook, but we were both starving and I ran by a drive-through.

I have a rant about what happened on our way home, and why it was significant that I happened to take that little extra time to start back, but it seems so trivial today. I think I will save it and tell it tomorrow. By then I will probably have shortened its length some. This isn't the right day for airing personal complaint. I need to shake it off right now (unsettling :( ) and gather myself.

HRH fixed no-beef stew tonight. Helpful.

Well, Cathy, you post made me laugh. My nephew posted a link to a wonderful music video from a sample of Sesame St. music, with the comment, "If it doesn't put a smile on your face at 0:20 then I'm all out of ideas." and it didn't put a smile on my face, in fact, I had to shut it off at the one minute mark because the sound irritated me. So I'm relieved that at least Cathy can still make me laugh.

There seems to be an overwhelming amount of bad news around me these days. The minister, my music friend's poor recovery from her jaw surgery, her father's infection that was left untreated turning to delirium and he's now violent and blasphemous (has been using words she's never heard him say) and while he's hospitalized now, he will only be released to a nursing home with a locked ward. That's the local, immediate, stuff. Combined with our late spring and consistently negative news, it is hard to find reasons to smile these days.

Had dinner. Am monitoring email. My first survey session will be on April 24th in the evening. I'm nervous as all get out. It is with a church 6 hours from here so I can't cheat and do it in person!

I took a "slow day". I did complete over 80 cards, do LO care and prepared/served 2 complete meals......but otherwise I didn't do much of anything.

LO has field trips the next 4 days (removing the noisy little ones from the school building while the other grades take state mandated tests). Tomorrow I'm attending an all day workshop so have made arraignments for two Mom's to keep a close watch on LO. DH will also be checking up on LO off/on during the day.

I was pulled away from my garage work because a good friend had tried to send me a reference letter and I hadn't received it yet. He is waiting to be admitted to seminary school. I stopped what I was doing to write it. Then I drove to the po to mail it. Forgot it was tax day but it didn't seem any busier than usual.

Same hair thing happened to me lilac. I think I finally found some one who will listen to me. When I was living in mobile, the same gal cut my hair for 15 years. Sometimes I wanted to try a new look. She would say....i'llcut it, but you're not going to like it.....she was always right.

Twins....here's a weird tax question for. How long is a state tax refund check good for? While going through some boxes today I came across a refund check that never was cashed. It was issued in 1998. Can't figure out how it got by me.

Dinner is done, kitchen cleaned. I am working tomorrow and already have my lunch made. I need to take a shower tonight.....maybe I'll make it a bath. I stink....working in a hot garage with lots of dust and dirt will do that for me......I've seen enough abt Boston tonight. Time for prayers. However I need to prepare for the "future" tomorrow. These kids are mentally challenged and they always make me smile and laugh. Morris west got it right when he called them. "The Clowns of God". One of my all time favorite books btw. If you'be never read it you should treat yourself.....amazing fictional story abt a Pope who recieves a vision from God and the chaos that it creates

I ended up taking the boys home.

I hadn't been home long when dh came in. His knee is a little better and the swelling is going down. He needed to pump water out of the sprinkler main before we have our next cold front. I went out and watched. At our last house it was self draining and you just turned off the main. The individual sprinkler heads are self draining here but the main isn't. Decided I better learn to do these things and it is something I can easily do if necessary.

Need to check bs.....

This is first chance I've had to post in a few days, I've read those days, though.

First I wanted to say I was happy to read that Lilac's dsil is in remission. What a relief for your families.

I have been watching the news about the tragedy in Boston. I didn't know about it until early this evening when I read it here. It has been very warm here the last few days and our house gets heated up quickly. Our AC has not been working too well lately. The heater worked during the cold spell we had, but doesn't seem to be cooling. I've called the company and we have one service call left on the yearly contract & they will come out on Wed.

The Highland Games on Saturday were nice. It was sunny, no rain and ended up hot. Ddil volunteered for the morning to help in the band booth making meat pies, which sold out quickly. We met up with them around noon and got there just in time to see the opening ceremonies. All the bands marched onto the field right past us, so we heard them all play. We watched the field competitions and I took a few pictures. We stayed almost to the end, but left before the crowds started leaving; I was glad to get home, though because of the heat.

Yesterday ds#2 and ddil brought us their sofa and moved the one we had outside. They are getting new living room furniture and their sofa was in better condition than ours. The "new" one is also a sofa bed, which sometimes comes in handy for overnight company. Tomorrow morning they will bring the matching loveseat. Their new furniture will be delivered tomorrow afternoon. We've (ddil) made arrangement with S. A. to pick up the sofa and a chair tomorrow. She did it online with her phone. Today I worked in the family room and added a computer desk to the list. All this furniture moving gave me a chance to do some deep cleaning of these areas. I think I'll sleep good tonight.

Ivy, it was nice to hear that your dgd was able to go home and is doing well.

Harriet, I'm glad you were able to be there for your dfriend and the dr. is confident that she is improving.

((Lilac & dh)). OKay, LO will have a fun time at school this week!

Tonight is dhs last night to smoke. Tomorrow his dose of Chantix is an increased strength. I pray it works. When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I was very thankful that I was not a smoker or drinker. I had a hard accepting that I had diabetes and I was glad that I didn't have to give up smoking or drinking in addition to all the other changes.

Lilac, good success to your DH. Sunny, what color is the "new" furniture?

I tackled the master bed, took everything off and shifted the foam mattress pads around (DH had been complaining the mattress was too hard so we have 2 extra foam toppers on it) and a new plastic protector. That's always a hard job, lifting the mattress while tugging on the protector. Nice to have that done.

I pulled the ripe veggies from the garden, processed and put a lot of broccoli in the freezer.

Harriet, I'm sure glad to read you got there and back safely today. Poor Helen. I hope her eyes recover soon.

Sad news today. Just awful.
