DD#2 is into last trimester. All is going well. I had asked when was the best time to ring. 7am was the answer. OKKKKKK. I think I need a phone by my bed.

DD#1 is finding many problems as they renovate their 130yo home. Lots of bodgy previous renovations. DSIL continues away o/s much of the time so managing family and builders questions falls to her.

DSis elder was visiting DM today. We had a nice chat until dsis arrived.

It was nice to see the beach and walk with ddog. The sun shone and we missed the showers. Thankfully. I like to walk about the river mouth. and see what it is doing. Its one of the few untamed river mouths left that moves back and forth, currently with huge sand bag groynes trying to stop a caravan park from disappearing, and maybe a lot more. There is a rocky outcrop that may be an island, or act as a point on the north or the south of the river mouth. Atm - its north.

Another day in the trenches of WM. Am a little weepy today as I miss my Dmom. In our group at work, most of us have lost our moms and Joyce has lost both of her children. Joyce was saying she missed getting flowers from her sons on Mother's Day so co-worker Cheryl came up with the idea to make a floral arrangement for Joyce. So we pitched in with funds to do it and found out that Cheryl is very creative with live and silk flowers.
We signed the card and today when Joyce comes in, she'll have flowers from her WM daughters.

Dson 35(gosh I feel old typing that) called to say he wants to take DH and I out for dinner on one of my days off. Have made a suggestion to DH for something the other sons could do for me. Will see but if they don't, it's okay too. Guys aren't all into holidays.

Lucylee Yes we enjoyed Ralph Stanley and we liked the Whites (who were hosting that section.) We aren't really country music fans, so didn't know the names of the people appearing (except Daniels) but we knew a lot of the songs or genre (we loved O Brother, Where Art Thou?) In that set was the debut of Joel Crouse. With both the rookies, their mamas were in the audience and I kept tearing up thinking of how those mamas felt.

We also liked Bobby Osborne & The Rocky Top X-Press - they were really popular with the crown and came back for an extra song. Sara Haze debuted at the Opry Friday and wasn't on our program also played in that set. We enjoyed both the rookies but theirs is a more popular style than most of the others. We like the sound but wouldn't go out of our way to hear them live, like we would with bluegrass.

George Hamilton IV was wonderful as a host and the Old Crow Medicine Show obviously had his support. They were so good, I thought they might top Charlie Daniels. Boy was I wrong! They are talented, energetic, traditional (despite youth) and entertaining. Had they been the only act I saw that night, I would have been thrilled. But Daniels is talented and seasoned and, despite his age, brought an incredible energy to the place. Bill Anderson was good as a host and did his "Mama Sang a Song" to close out the night in honour of Mother's Day. But he left as much time as he could in between him and Daniels because there's no following The Devil Came Down to Georgia!

I'm up. We've decided to go to the traditional service at the Methodist Church instead of the contemporary. Dh wants to sing the baseline so wants traditional music. Plus, with the modern stuff there won't be 'dots' for him to follow (notes.) I'm hoping this place still has hymnbooks in the pews with music, else, dh will be disappointed.

Sadie: I'm a little weepy too. Despite being a mom, I really don't like Mother's Day any more. I'm never home for it anyway and my kids are scattered so it is not exactly a family holiday for us. I just make sure we spend family time together other times of the year (like a few weeks ago when dd was home, we had three meals together as a family.)

Happy Mother's Day to all of you! We are going to church with my dmom, and I know it's going to seem kinda strange. I don't know how long it's been since we were in church out there without my ddad. I know it is going to be so hard for dmom. Ddad had plenty of faults but he always made dmom feel appreciated and loved at times like this. But -- dmom really sounded good on the phone this morning, so I know she's going to be okay.

Long day ahead of us, and longer one tomorrow... but we're okay.

Happy Mother's Day!

We had a great visit with my family yesterday. It was one of those "interesting" pot luck suppers at my younger sister's house... Younger sis had said she would do the meat, although she didn't say ahead what it would be. She ended up getting fried chickens already cooked from the grocery store, a good choice. Older sis said she would bring a dessert. I asked about coleslaw and DSis said that would be perfect. I didn't think just coleslaw sounded like enough of a contribution, so also picked up a bag of tortilla chips and jar of salsa.

Good thing I did, because everyone else brought ... desserts! So we had fried chicken, coleslaw, and chips & salsa, with oreo cookie dessert, banana cream pie dessert, chocolate candy, strawberry pie, fruit with whipped cream "salad," fruit pizza, cupcakes, brownies, and more chocolate candy. The little kids were in sugar heaven and we had to keep a close eye to make sure they didn't make themselves sick. I limited myself to a little bitty serving of 2 of the desserts, and then when we got home I ate some vegetables.

It was so good to see everyone. My older sis and her husband had been down south all winter, so it was lovely to hear about their activities. They don't do Email or write letters, and only call DMom once a month, so we always have to accept that no news means they're having fun in the sun.

I'm still not sure when we'll go up to DMiL's today. I got up early and made chicken salad, thinking I would pack everything to take her a picnic lunch to eat on her patio. Unfortunately, not only is it cold today but also DH's bad cough came back last night so he's still in bed. I decided since nothing had been decided yet, better to wait and see how he's feeling and maybe we'll go up for early supper instead.

Both of our moms said they didn't want anyone to buy any presents for them. I couldn't resist, though, so went to the Tiny Town florist & gift shop yesterday. Found a bud vase with 3 unusual flowers in it for my mom, who loves fresh flowers, and a pretty dragonfly suncatcher for DMiL because she stays couped up in her house so much.

BookSaver, that sounds like a perfect potluck to me! Hope dh feels better.

Our first doggie-care run of the day is done. We had to go early anyway because ddil's dbro didn't stay all night, just a quick in and out run. He probably had to be at work early.
I don't know yet if we will see dfam#1, still waiting to hear from them.

In the meantime, kitchen is cleaned up, all the other rooms are picked up and dusted. I have one lol in washer and another one waiting. It is cloudy here today; a rain front went through just north of us far enough that we didn't get any rain.

Back from church. Sat with two other United Church of Canada ministers here for the conference from Northern Ontario. It was a good Mother's Day service. A downtown church so not a large congregation but for a smaller attendance church, the music was very good and the soloist was superb (she brought tears to my eyes.)

Just going through the pictures of last night. Both of our cameras are set to different times so the photos are all mine and then all dh's shots. Sigh... it makes it hard to cull because I can't see each shot one after the other to see who has the better framed photo. That's how we ended up with 600 pictures from Alaska.

Sadie - that is soooooo very thoughtful and kind to do that for co-worker. What a special group you have!

I was honored to sit next to DMom this morning at church. It is rare that I'm not working during church service. This morning church service was a tear jerker. We had a guest singer that sang to honor a DFriend who is going through her first Mother's Day since her 23 year old daughter was killed (wreck). This DFriend is now raising the 2 boys (2 y & 4 years old) that her daughter left behind. Then a surprise when 3 hospital workers wheeled in a young man who was in a horrible motorcycle wreck last October. His Mother attends our church and didn't know he had arraigned for the hospital staff to bring him. After his accident, his mother was told by several doctors that he wouldn't live. She put her life on hold and stayed by his side night/day for months and he came through. He wanted to honor her by coming to church this morning and telling her "Momma, I love you. Thank you" I think most everyone was crying after both of these real life examples of dedicated Mothers.

Mother Day gifts were handed out. Every Mother received a gift and then they started doing the extra Mother gifts. Some were normal categories = Oldest Mother. Youngest mother. Newest mother. Mother with most children. There were also gifts given for categories that some might find a bit different...... Mothers who received a tool for Mothers Day gift. Mother who spanked their child this week. Mothers who worked cattle this week.
