Tuesday Tips

Post by Harriet »

Here's a tip!

Have you checked out all the handy tips our villagers have gathered? :) Some time- or money-saving idea is just waiting to be discovered.

In the Organization and Simplification Tools forum, there are two "Tips" threads : "Today's Organizing Tip" (108 posts!) and "Cleaning Tips".

There's a "Thrifty Ideas" subforum within The Creative Home forum with several threads.

(And just for tips on our village here, such as navigating, terminology, photos, etc., there is a "Tips, Hints and How-Tos" forum In our "news" section at the top of the board index.)

Are you a tip lover? Do you have a "You've GOT to try this!" tip to share?

Lucylee No need to apologize to me, the sauce was on a pizza recommended by the clerk at the grocery store. BTW: I'm northern so you really don't have to guess when to apologize - I'll let you know. Harriet tried to apologize for the weed whacker (which I didn't even notice) in the bedroom! Save your energy, you southern ladies; I'll let you know if I find something out of line!

I slept very well. Need to get busy now. I, of course, have chosen the 8:45 worship at the Baptist church and then the 9:35 lecture at the Presbyterian church about .4 uphill miles away.

Good morning, ladies!

Thanks for the morning chuckle, Kathryn.

So true, so true. I surely wouldn't notice.

DD and expect to be leaving here as soon as she's through school on Thursday. I have a 3 o'clock haircut and she finishes 'bridge care' at 4:15. Plan is to pick her up at school (means someone has to take her to school at 6:45am, but that's okay -I can do it.) It will mean we can leave at least 45 minutes earlier than if she has to come home. And it's not that far from hair appt. to her school and then we just continue northward. Sounds good to me. That will surely get us to my db/dsil's much earlier.

Just realized last night that dh has "200 Club" at the Fire Dept. Saturday at six. There's a buffet and then lots of drawings as well as good cash prizes. Asked him if he thought I could go with him if we get home early enough. "Of course". Forgot that was this week until I looked at our calendar. That will give dd some time without us. She's hoping for decent weather so they can have a campfire. If it isn't raining & blowing they'll have one regardless of how cool it might be!

"Attended" our church council meeting last night via S kype. Yay, finally! Never expected to be gone this long. Next year.......

Been working on the church bulletin for here for Sunday. Just sent it to me via email & will open it at church on Thursday. Hopefully I won't have much to do on it. Planning on not having to stay too long at church that day. New pastor (our old interim) is coming in that day, so hopefully he doesn't have too much on my plate for that day. Am going to suggest (if this emailing works ok) that he send me info and I can email it to him at the church to just run or add anything he sees fit. Sounds like a plan to me.

I'm buzzing right along now. Just finished cleaning the kitchen, doing dishes and cleaning out the fridge. So many things I wanted to get done here and just didn't -think mostly because gd was here and since she left, I've been going through a lot of 'healing' to get to the point I am now -and pretty rarin' to go. She comes home the first week of summer vacation, and the last -dd is going to have her fly up north for that week. She's trying to plan the week gd is home so she can get her out of the house. DSonil asked why she takes her places????? Well, mostly to gain some peace by keeping them away from each other. That being said, dd asked gd last night if she wanted to talk to her Dad -"No". But then about 20 minutes later dsonil came in and was on the phone with gd. Let the healing begin. She did talk to dd again and ended up hanging up on her however. This too shall pass. She was trying to manipulate dd into buying her a new dress because the one she has, she SAYS is "inappropriate" for some occasion. Somehow we don't think so. It's a beautiful white longer dress -one she wore for Easter and she looks gorgeous in it. Think she's just trying to get dd to spend $$. DD is going to call the office at the Ranch to see if the story is 'true'. Terrible to be so suspicious all the time.

I've rambled long enough -time to get back to work. Think I'll look at 'packing'. Have to be getting to the nitty gritty of it. Just don't want to forget anything.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

Off to a slow start this morning. I think I have a UTI. I was very uncomfortable first thing this morning, enough so that I took 2 Advil, which is unusual for me. I went for a jog w/ dh, but that was too uncomfortable, so I just walked. I called the Dr. office and have an appt. this afternoon - and now I'm feeling pretty OK. I hope I don't feel silly going to the Dr.'s this afternoon. I rarely go. . . . .(to the Dr.'s; upon a 2nd reading, I realized this statement could be taken various ways, considering the context. .. ..LOL!) I've been trying to drink a lot of water.

I met dh for coffee this morning, and we ended up going over my resume. Dfriend S2 revamped it for me last fall (she used to be a VP of HR at a big company in Chicago, though one would never in a million years guess that about her), and dh is helping me make minor adjustments. I have also done some organization emails (moms group, band uniforms). I'd like to get the a.m. routine done, but I'm also on puppy duty.

I also called the school re: dd17's absences due to AP exams, and they said they get the lists from the exam center the next day to cover absences.

C'est la vie ajourd'hui. I just felt like writing that for some random reason. . . I hate going to the Dr., but that is my life today, and tomorrow will come soon enough.

((helia)) writes, "That's life, on this day," I believe (right, blessed?). It's true that in French it has a kind of optimistic things-will-change lilt to it, doesn't it? Hoping for change for you, helia.

Ohhhhh, I think maybe a weed whacker in the bedroom sorta lends itself to an explanation... ... ;) (New, charging battery for first time.) I didn't want Kathryn to think I usually finish yard work and set down my grass-covered power equipment by the bed. But an apology, no - it was very well behaved. It didn't attack on its own like that pizza sauce. ((Kathryn))

Sauces are problematic. There are so many variations in the acidity, plus "idiosyncrasies", as Harmony can attest. It's not necessarily the cooked tomatoes, it can be the garlic, the onions, the spiciness of it. If eaten with soda, that adds another layer of possibilities, because their PH levels range from an okay 4 to an oh-my 2.8. There's a pretty pre-made layered salad I enjoyed from Bi-Lo, and never had a problem until they switched from sweet white onions to harsh red onions in it and just ruined it for me with heartburn. Impossible to "pick out" chopped onion, so I never got it again without suspicion.

Dstepson and HRH are doing a large declutter at my ddad's kennel today. They'd already pulled a lot of "to be tossed" items for convenience for when a dumpster arrived and they had me order that yesterday. It arrived without incident this a.m. Dstepson popped back here to bring me an extra Bojangles biscuit from their break, so thoughtful. I was kinda  at the cost of a dumpster rental. But I guess there's delivery, pick-up, disposal. It would have to be pricey.

TIP of my day: someday you may rent a dumpster. Shop around. Don't necessarily use your area's trash collection company, because they won't feel they have competition in your area. I saved twelve percent and got extra time on the rental by renting from a company 2 towns away.

Kidney Foundation pick up service came and this time I've met the driver! Oh good grief. He's nice. He's grateful. He's always appreciated my neatly marked bags left at the mailbox. Aaauugghh! Now I have a personal relationship! Now I'll never be able to tell them I'd rather switch to taking my own bags away than go by their schedule. I'll have to wait until he retires... ...

Good Morning Dear Ladies,

Was so busy yesterday was unable to post.

Did laundry and cleaned the kitchen.

Going to work on floors today.

Bought a small package of dryer sheets specifically to do dusting. Supposed to repel dust especially on things like blinds. Will give it a try.

Going to the pizza place for buffet and salad with the whole family for a combo Mother's Day and DH's birthday. We have coupons for buy one get one free tonight. 8-)

(((LucyLee))) glad things went ok, even with all the mix-ups.

Very nice weather here and I sat out in the sun on the front porch for 15 minutes yesterday and today. Time to load up on vitamin D.

Off to work on the floors.

Great day to all!

I slept in today and am off to a late start but things are moving along here I've done my journal, written & mailed a letter swept the drive way & front steps. Sun is out after a cool and cloudy morning. Glad temps. are back to normal and cooler temps. here this week yea for that!46* - 71* here today T-storms here last night had the winds up a bit I just went to bed early.

My Tip Keep at it, laundry divide and conquer two loads here!If I just get it going I get it done! Dealing with the summer things I got out last week, some need to be hung up, others need to be put away and others need to be folded all need put away.

Decluttering progress made today x I have a plan yea! the trash cans here and next door. A couple small plantings next to the foundation need to come out before they are too big to do.

I have spiffed up the stove and have half of the counters cleaned off, I need to keep at it.

Watering the back yard now.

Hi everyone! One of Gravity's siblings has been trapped! I picked her up yesterday. I had to clean out the sewing room again for her. (I had done some attic work and there was insulation around). She is a very cute fluffmonster, but not much like her brother. He is bold and outgoing, she is still hiding, and very well at that. Tonight is Girls' Night Out, but DD11 wants to do take out and stay home with the new kitten. I am going to email the people we usually see at Chuck E Cheese to tell them why we haven't been around lately. I have called the person who does the blood testing for the cats, but have not heard back from her.

Tonight, I will have to do some more cleaning in the sewing room because the kitten has not figured out the catbox yet. I will just move the box to her preferred place, just like I did for her brother. I will also have to do a LOL, take the trash out, and make a DPC. In addition to the cat taming process. This new one, I am going to treat as a shy feral. I may even move her into the guest bathroom.

I was thinking of names for "sister of Gravity". :)

Maybe she is "Levity" - an antonym of one meaning of gravity.

Maybe she is "Celeste" (short for celestial), from the definition of another meaning.

I've been gone most of the day and just peeked in again. How is it we only have 8 posts? Even looked to see if someone else had started a different post for today. Not. Just very quiet I guess.

DD texted me a while ago (shows you how not up-to-date spelling is -"texted" is underlined as though misspelled. ) I never even noticed that incorrect spelling is underlined here. Hmmm. Back to subject: DD was ultra excited. Got an email from her school district boss and the boss is coming to her school tomorrow with gifts for her and her co-teacher. Each of them are being presented with not one, but two, i pads. Guess they've been doing something right. Actually this has been a day of good news -between hers and dgd18. Know our dShelley would be so proud of dgd! She's a sweet girl and has overcome lots of odds in her short life. For that matter -I'm very proud of her too.

Oh, dd is home. Guess I'll go give her a hug!
