blessed was taking a tour of her home with a camera, taking photographs so that she could really SEE the rooms and catch any clutter, etc. that she'd been overlooking. It reminded me of a recent news story here about Hollywood directors "touring" our area (meaning scanning and taking still-shots for potential locations for movies). It was making residents nervous, worried about how their surroundings "looked" to a photo-taker!
I always get inspired when I read in the cardfile forum.
Actually, blessed has gotten quite a bad cold, so I don't know if she finished her picture-taking.
Anyone else ever made like a Hollywood director touring for scenes? Have you ever tried "shooting" the evidence in the rooms (or outside) at your house? What kind of a documentary could you make? What would you title it?
Harriet - I remember when I first found P&P, I took pictures of my house - every room, every cluttered spot and then I had the proof that I had done something well. I still have a tendency to like before and after pictures (as I am sure you all have seen on my blog.)
Today I go with DD#1 to get our toes done. Then she is having some kind of home party at her house that I don't want to go to - so we are going to just come back to the motel and hang out tonight.
Tomorrow we check out of the motel about 11 and go to her house to do laundry and get ready to catch the train at 6 pm. DH will buy pizza for all and they will pick it up on the way home at 4:30 so that should give us time to catch the train about 2 minutes away from her house.
This motel was the cheapest one in town and it is very nice. Nice family that owns it and it is clean. It is a bit run down but owner said they are redoing all the rooms this summer. I can hear pounding outside where they are replacing all the window trim.
DH is back from breakfast so I think we will go for a walk. DD isn't picking me up until 1.

Well..... I thought dd2s appt to have her car detailed was at 9. I am ready to go. I called her and she sounded stressed. That must mean she is still unloading her huge vehicle before she takes it in. She. does. this. everytime. She gets the car detailed and then it starts piling up again. After awhile you can't open car doors on both sides at the same time without stuff blowing out. Then she gets gripey if you forget. If they would just empty the vehicle each time they go home or at least once a day, this wouldn't happen. It is really a simple concept. Stuff is forever getting buried in there and they can't find it when they need it.
Dd2s birthday was Tuesday. I was going to take her out to lunch. Then her dh decided to come to town to look at a house that she has been harping about. We looked at it and then he took us to lunch. So I told her I would take her out to lunch today. I am trying to get ready for company and really don't have time to be waiting for her to call about picking her up. Grrr....
Yesterday I hand washed our SUV by myself. I have never done it before but it needed it. Dh has so much to do before company comes that he won't have time to do it. Then we will need to drive it to the graduation ceremony and I know him, he would be griping about it needing washed. So surprise, it is washed, vaccumed and the inside has been wiped down.
Tuesday night was the HS choir concert. It was dgs19s last one. Out of 30 plus seniors, he was one of 3 that were recognized for Outstanding Choir Student or something to that effect. I was so proud of him. Their names are on a plaque that will forever be displayed in the hallway trophy cases.
Dm called today and then commented, " you don't seem very excited to be having company". Well gee mom, I haven't been able to stay at your house since March 1987, so you have forgotten how stressful getting ready for company is.
Aren't I in a pleasant mood today?
On my maternal grandmothers side, we had a reunion 2 years ago. Well they have planned another for this year. This is all dms, her dsis'es and her nieces brainy idea. They are having it in Denver at a hotel. Since I live closer to there than the majority of family, dm expects me to go. I told her that I thought it was silly to have one that soon. Usually it is ever 3 years and that is soon enough. We haven't seen dhs dsis in OK, since July 2009. I talk to her all the time but we just haven't made it there. With all her health issues, we are always reluctant to go and then take her some virus, etc. So I told dm if we went anywhere, we needed to go there. She didn't argue the point but I know she wanted to.
If dd2 cancels that car detailing again, I am not going to be happy that I have waited for her, for nothing. It seems like the story of my life with her. She doesn't like it when I tell her that she had to have 5 kids, so she can someday be paid back. The truth hurts!
Yikes, I really am a crab today. Guess I will find something to do and maybe she will call.
The bathroom is so close to being done. He has the floor tiled and grouted. He will need to caulk it and seal all the grout. The mirror is hung. We are waiting on the toilet. As soon as it comes in, he will pick it up and then call the plumber to come set it. He decided he just didn't want any problems with it. After problems every step of the way, I think it is a good decision.
Dd1 is having a luncheon Saturday for family and friends for dgs19s graduation celebration. They have ordered meat from the barbeque place and fried chicken from another place. She will do everything else. Her and her dh have taken tomorrow off to get ready for it. The graduation ceremony is at 7 pm.
Surprise, surprise, surprise dd2 called and is taking the girls to daycare. Then she will call me so I can meet her at the detail place. I can tell already they must have overslept. It is foggy this morning. Her entire family are night owls and then don't want to get up. Dgd16 says it best "we come to life about 2 pm." On weekends and the summer, that is about the truth.
Good morning everyone! Levity passed all the tests yesterday. There was only one surprise: Levity is Gravity's brother not sister. With a dark, very fluffy kitten, it can be hard to tell. Oops. At least the name can go either way. I had to move him out of the sewing room because a third sibling has been caught. I get that one tonight at 5:30. I am hoping I can get this one tested tonight. If it is a girl, I am thinking of Destiny as a name. Levity has adapted to moving out, but is still shy. I found him hidden in the nightstand, but he did purr at me. He will need much more work than Gravity, who can be adopted as soon as he is old enough for shots and neutering. A documentary of my house at this time would be called "The Cathouse".
Because of all the cat stuff tonight, I am missing my usual Thursday art class. This will be the 3rd time I have missed. It is all individual projects, so I don't become behind, I just miss my friends. I went to DD11's singing performance yesterday. She wants to continue being in the Dragon Singers when she repeats 5th grade. XDH and I have an appointment at the school this afternoon for the results of the testing they did on her. It is a two hour meeting.
Just got back from my morning 'runnings'. Folded LOL but did not make up my bed. DD said she'd do it later on -and if it doesn't get done before we come back -no problem
Murphy's Law prevailed at church today. Computer wouldn't work right for a while and then the hub with the flash drives didn't work. Pastor went and bought a new one. Then of course his copy of the bulletin mailed to me did some goofy things as to spacing. But got it done.
Went from there to see Dsisil and now am getting last minute things in the car and am going to go get my hair cut. From there I will pick up dd at school around 4:15 and then we're heading to my db's.
Think I may have to do some jockeying for Saturday night. DGS19 wrote on facebook last night that he was going to our campground to ds-R's for a family gathering tomorrow night. Dh and I had plans for dinner, etc at the firehall. Know he's already paid for it. Guess we'll see.
Have to get the vacuum out and run it quickly through our room.
So, I'm off and packing up the computer. Will see you all at some point on the road I hope. Thinking of you all, but didn't take time to cuop. TTFN
Congratulations to your grandson, Lilac! I know you will so enjoy the "new" bathroom, especially with all the bragging rights you and dh will have, since you made the decisions and did so much work yourselves.
Emptynester, gotta love the concept of photographic proof that you did something big and did it right! About a place to stay, away from home, I think I would just as soon stay where I know there were nice people than to have everything look perfect.
Stay safe, Dee!
Smiling at the healthy brother for Gravity, Elizabeth. Hope your meeting goes very well.
My documentary might be titled: "Time-lapse photography: how quickly things change!" I have to be SO vigilant around here, lol! Dd is always on the verge of clutter-takeover. Projects and tangents sidetrack me so easily, so I sometimes look around and say, "When did it start looking like this?" At this moment, most of my photographs would be socially acceptable. Bathroom vanity is slipping away into no-man's land, though. Hmmm... ...
The kennel clean-up would have yielded very impressive before-and-after still shots if HRH and dstepson had thought to do it. They could also have documented an eviction ... ... a wasp nest. Dd was very scared of the space last week because her brother had used the word, "hornets", but it turned out to be wasps (still dangerous, especially to allergic ds28). Grateful we continued the regular seasonal spraying for insects there, since that has given them less to worry about. Anyway, as of this morning all bookshelves, cabinetry and indoor feed benches are to the dumpster. They are pressure washing the inside. (Concrete construction) They need to mount a new exterior door.
I've ordered a birthday present and some garden supplies online. Glad to have those out of the way. Pharmacy 3 has still not been attended-to for pickup and they are leaving automatic messages. Sigh. It seems like there are so many more automated phone messages in our lives these days. Dd's school just runs on them, and all the parents are scared to answer because they are so long you can't remember everything unless you let them record.
I got back from moms group around 12:50 and have had some lunch and done some puppy care. I did a little chauffeuring first things this a.m. Dd17 took the kid car to take an AP exam, so I dropped off dd14 at school and then dropped off ds at work en route to the church. Now, someone will have to pick up ds around 5:30.
Everything went smoothly with the end of the year wrap up session for the moms group. The flower baskets were oohed and aahed over. All the thank you cards were well-signed by the women, so I'm hoping the child care workers felt well-appreciated. Without them, the moms group wouldn't fly. They are paid, but still - we do appreciate all they do for the kids!! We're losing 3 of them next year, so it will be part of my task over the summer to find replacements. Ack!! Fortunately, I will have lots of help from other women on the steering committee.
I like the name Levity a lot, Elizabeth and Harriet. I don't think I ever commented on that. It is a nice counterpoint to Gravity.
Is the kennel at your Dad's place, Harriet? I don't even bother trying to tidy the girls' art table. Really, it is mostly dd17's art table. Dd14's creative outlet lately has been mostly sewing, and she does that in her room. She also seems to be the neatest of our3 kids.
Congratulations to dgs19, Lilac! I hope you had an enjoyable lunch with dd2.
Rambling: Yesterday in school, dd14 put our names down for the foreign exchange student program in which her school participates, both to host a student and to go. At least she told me she had done this. . . We've toyed for several years with the idea of hosting a Youth for Understanding foreign student, so she knows we are open to the idea of hosting a foreign exchange student. Dd14 listed her top 3 countries in which to study as: Netherlands (very understandable), Egypt ( ), and Italy, also understandable. I have not idea why she put Egypt down; she said it sounded interesting. . . .This is all hypothetical, and dd14 says it doesn't mean anything yet, beyond the mailing of a catalog, though I think dd14 would like for it to be a reality. She is our adventurous and independent child. . . . Sabbatical year is also coming up soon, and she has said she wants us to take it while she's still in high school so she can join us. I have no idea if/how that will work out if she also does a foreign exchange student program. But, I certainly don't need to worry about that today!
Tree guys are coming this afternoon to cut down/trim trees from the storm damage we got in February. Dh has said he'll be here; he'd like to talk to them. However, he is always busy at work.
Today I had dd met me at the church about half way between us while I dropped off donations dgson walked the two blocks to school from there.
They had both gotten milk so I had her bring some for the kids to have for snacks in cereal, pudding, etc.
The brief tour of the things I could see from the door of the church with the kids in the car looks like they had a lot of donations for the youth yd. sale. Tomorrow I have no kids here so will take in that in the morning. I need to color my hair also. Some things have backed up.
I was beginning to think I was not going to get the donations we had sorted out after missing yesterday but today relieved to have that done yea! The church has a circle drive with a covered area so that was good. They have table set up inside in case of rain so that is good. I for got the cookie dough oh well.
The baby did not take a morning nap, she is happier after lunch, I am too after mine.
Thanks, DEE and LYNLEE! ELIZABETH, your advice not to overdo is well-taken. I went to church last night and these bumpy country roads shook my insides pretty good. Have been in bed all day and taking pain meds. Not going to leave the house again until healing is much further along. Lesson learned!
Looking forward to feeling good for a change. Doctor says the rest of me is perfectly healthy, but the gb was a mess!
Have read with interest HARRIET'S dumpster comments. We need a dumpster later this summer to remove carpet and ceiling tiles in the basement. Need that area to be clean and livable before the family comes here for Christmas.
HELIA, we have tree guys coming next week.
BTW, I had shared with you all that DD's job was cut due to budget issues. Well, she got another job several states away from where she is now. So we'll be helping her move this summer. Much to look forward to!
