No email from dh yet but he should be there now.
I've got the technical end of things set up for tonight's survey. So that's ready to go.
Barreling out of the house now to visit the church office and then visit with my minister. We are going to lunch together. After that, I'm doing grocery shopping and then coming home for a quick dinner, change and head out.

Well, we will be in IL another day. All the direct flights were full and we could get to Houston but not to Phoenix.
So we have a lazy day with nowhere to go and nothing to do.
Yesterday we did a few errands and then I got supper together for the family. I has started french onion soup on Sunday so I finished that and added a sandwich bar. Worked out pretty well. The soup was a bit sweet as all the onions available were the sweet kind. It is better with hotter onions.
Think I will go make myself some breakfast.
So we have a lazy day with nowhere to go and nothing to do.

Monint y'all...
This morning is a reminder to me that catastrophies are part of life, and the media is more that willing to show it to us. I have witnessed this type of devastatioin closer to home last fall when Hurrican Sandy destroyed my town just like we are watching today. And I have followed along with my friends' journey as they try to reclaim and rebuild their town. It has not been an easy road for anyone.
My friends have demonstrated the true power of community. When Sandy hit, help came from states away. The process was immediate with neighbor's helping neightbors. Lesson learned was you have to be prepared to take care of yourself. FB became a life thread for many. Personal groups organized and sent out lists of what was needed. Food, baby goods, water etc came pouring in from everywhere and the countrywide response was overwhelming. It was so uplifting to be a part of it. Here I was sitting in AZ enlisting help and sending needed goods to my friends thousands of miles away.
Here's what I can tell you....the struggle still continues in my hometown. It has been a nightmare of fights with insurance companies, FEMA and State agencies. One hand does not know what the other does. People are still paying for their homes that have been destroyed plus the home they are living in now. Life was distrupted in ways my friends had never imagined.
But out of the rubble emerges good. People are rebuilding dispite all the difficulties. My town is determined to rebuild. Groups have been formed to gather and pass on needed information. The attendance for the monthly town meetings has never been bigger. People who never have been involved with the civics of their town are becoming leaders. It is amazing to watch. It's become the old "helping hands" theory. Volunteers from all over the country still show up to help with the rebuilding.
As soon as the tornado hit yesterday a call went out from my town's fb page. What can we do to help these people??? Already this morning my friends are organizing to send needed materials. As one of my friends said...we know EXACTLY what these people are feeling. My town is still only partly rebuilt and now their focus is on helping others in need. Is this not what our country is about???

Good morning!
Have swept porch, patio, and deck. Birch tree seed pods are everywhere. No doubt I am on the mend...felt like wearing earrings today and have a great desire to recycle my get well cards. Ready to move on!
It's hot here today, but the house is cool enough even without the a/c on. Last summer was all about DS's wedding. This year we will visit him and DDIL in July, perhaps, and help DD with her move in June. DH will drive the rental truck for her and supervise loading. I will help pack and follow along in our car (so we have a ride home). Should have plenty of help loading and unloading. I know I won't be doing any lifting and DH should not either.
Next up Bible reading.

Hi Gals.
I was up too early and I'm sleepy today. Did manage to get all the desk chores done finally and even bank accounts (2) reconciled. Had to check on an insurance item and ended up calling the company, also the agent. He dropped the ball and did not send the letter canceling DH's policy as he goes on medicare. So I had to do that by fax and set up my own policy to be separate. We were both on the same policy and they make it complicated by closing everything and issuing new. I had to set up a new payment option too. sheesh.
I should really do something in the house, but I'm really sleepy. DH wanted me to come help at jobsite but I don't know if he'll call me about that or not. My knee got very bad yesterday after my too-busy weekend. I'm sure walking on the sand did not help. Beginning to feel that I must see about it.
Trying not to watch non-stop TV. School damage is really awful. We had a nice heavy rain last evening, certainly nothing like this. OKay, I'm happy your family is all safe.

I seen on FB that my dcousin who lives in northern OK, is headed to Moore with the Red Cross. She is a grief counselor. With all those deaths, she will be needed.

Nancy...I have a surprise for you...I'm raising eggs, but not by choice 
Seems a Bramble's Quail decided to make her nest inside my big pot of petunias that I keep by my backdoor. At first I couldn't figure out why a bird kept flying in and out of my flower pot. Then Sweetie went to investigate and called me outside. There in the pot were 10 eggs...we didn't know what kind they were because we never saw the bird up close. We put the big pot on a table to keep it away from the dogs...its right near their feeding and watering bowl. Later that night Sweetie told me he had seen the bird on the nest and it had a black thing sticking up off of its head. I knew right away it was a quail.
Yesterday morning I stuck my head in to look at the eggs...I thought they were gone. Nope, the mama bird had buried them under the dirt. From what I have read, it takes 21 days for the chicks to hatch. Once that happens, the chicks leave the nest with their mama and take off. My predictament is how to keep the petunias alive while mama is nesting there. She seems to leave the nest during the day...I think the sun must warm the dirt and keeps the chicks growing....so I am watering it with a sprinkle watering can....and pretending I am the rain.
The chicks are known to chirp 48 hours before they hatch. This stage is refered to as their pipping stage. There's a luluby I sang to my son that includes the phase about "chicks when they're pipping" and I always wondered what that meant and now I know....
Kathryn...At this very moment my son is hiking the Appalachian Trail. He will be gone for 6 days and will be out of any cell phone service. He's never hiked like this before, but is with a friend who has. The storms from the west are heading his way, and TN...as Twins has already told us...is experiencing thunder storms. If you're smart, you don't want to be hiking on the hightest points of the mountain range when there's thunder and lightning, but that is where he is. Everything is clearly out of my control. I have to put my trust in him that he will make smart decisions as to what to do. I mostlikely won't hear from him until next Monday. However I have to remind myself that at his age, I would have done the same thing...after all I did just raft down the Colorado River even after my son had voiced his concerns.

LO is officially a KINDERGARTENER!! WhhoooooHOOO! 
Well. Maybe. Hopefully. I've been looking though the stack of papers sent home with him today. SMH There are 8 pages of material to help in preparation for kindergarten. There are 2 pages of study material for the initial kindergarten test. On the cover letter of this stack, his teacher closed with this statement "Gone is the time when I went to kindergarten to color, cut and play". When did kindergarten become such a big deal?
LO teacher took pictures of each child all through the school year. Today she presented each one with a photo album documenting their school year. WOW! This teacher continually astounds me how organized she is.
