Happy Memorial Day weekend to those of you in the states!

I got my laundry current yesterday today we will be working on h's work clothes I decided to wait until today so I could get them all done up. H. did pretend camping last night!

Car shows are on; time for my mom cave time and then it's out to the chicken yard to work on the new fencing fabric I got last night at the home improvement center after we went to R. Lobster used a gift card from his dsis for a belated bday.

I had the best compliment yesterday the baby fussed and whimper cried a bit when she left yesterday!

Cool race, Kathryn. I'm glad it has helped ds develop drive in various areas of life. Nice to hear of him growing up so well after difficulties earlier in life. Dh is dyslexic, fairly severely so; he had a tutor + his father worked with him early every single morning elem. school through high school. Still, passing the high school graduation exams for all the languages he was required to take in NL (English, Dutch, French, German) was quite a challenge for him. I think he barely passed some of them. . . Maybe he was allowed to drop one by the end of high school?

We are having the laziest day here. I am at least s2s-ed and have picked up dd14. The kitchen has been cleaned up. Dh is going to help me with the forsythia bush (there is a non-forsythia bush in its midst) after he is showered.

Dh and I went over the summer schedule this a.m. Not too much traveling on our part, which is nice. Besides our quick trip to Austin sans kids, we'll have long weekend to my parents' town to attend the wedding of the dd of friends of ours there -- and also to see my family; a longer trip to Santa Fe w/ TX friends; a camping trip up north on Lake Michigan with our small group. That's it for family travels; the girls have some camps and church trips as well. Now, dh wants to add in a quick trip to DC with S and R; we tried to find a time that would work last night. I think R needs to move some things in his schedule for it to work. S is due the end of Sept. so we can't travel too late in August.

I also made a vet appt. for Maia next week and called the dog trainers re: registering her for classes - but had to leave a message.

I'm going to brush and floss before I head out with dh to work on the forsythia.

Have made an errand run to the car parts place for oil and filter for the tractor. Then at the car service place, paid the man and brought the truck home with new shoes (dstepson dropped me off). It was a blessing to get that done today - they closed at 1:00 for the weekend and as the man said they had been "listening to the crickets" all morning, so it was done quickly.

helia, I have a non-azalea in my azalea, too. What a wise man your dfil was.

Dd is disappointed because so far her hopes for today haven't happened and we haven't heard from the other girl's family. I believe it's time to rescue her from fret, and put her to work on laundry to get her mind off it. That will only be exasperating, and exasperation is better than fret.

It's a lazy day here, too. DH and I are resting and fighting off these colds. Feels like winter outside, so we are not venturing out. Laundry and dishes are all caught up. Bathrooms are clean. Vacuuming is overdue, but have not felt like lugging the vacuum around. No pets or children here, so that can wait until Monday.

Our new dehumidifier in basement is doing wonders for that area. That is one of our better purchases. Maybe we can start painting and transforming that space pretty soon. It's a walkout basement and there is a bedroom that we will fix up for DS and DDIL when they visit. They will be pleased not to be on an air mattress, I think.

Think I'll go make us some muffins or brownies...we need a dessert for tonight.

Hi everyone!!

I need to get to Mike's laundry from his trip. Tonight is dd's derby game. She isn't skating, so we aren't going.

Mike wants me to deal with some financial "stuff" today. Thank goodness I did that paperwork and shredding last week so I know where all the needed papers are.

Harriet... thanks! I'm glad HRH is having success with his diet strategy! I've shared your info with dh. Some of the ideas we discussed after dr. apt yesterday was the avoidance of sweet desserts, less starches (potatoes, bread etc.) and watching the content of sugar in prepared (store bought) foods. In discussion with dr. I murmured something to the effect of more veggies in diet and dr. said with a smile - lots more veggies! Dh drinks only diet soda, if any at all, and only diet tea. I don't think a strict vegan diet would work, though, because primary dr. once asked if he "was going vegetarian" because his protein levels were very low and told him to keep eating lean meats and fish. Oh, and I think regular times for walking would help. So hopefully we've got a plan that will work!

I've done my regular Saturday Stuff. This is my break for a bite of lunch and SHEs Village fix. I will finish getting ready for afternoon trip to dfam#1 for supper and visit. We will stop on the way at grocery pharmacy to pick up dh's rx then to W-M for small gift for dd15. I must remember to take wrapping paper, tape & scissors with me so I can pretty the package in the car on the way.

Lilac... dgd3 sounds so cute. She sure came prepared to stay all night!

Aww, Cowinkie, that's so sweet! I do that too, when I'm missing dgd15 of ds#3. When she was little and they were here for a visit, she would be sad that vacation was over I would take her outside to look for the moon. I told her when she was sad and missing Papa and me to look at the moon and know that I would be looking at the same moon and no matter where we were we would still be close!

Kathryn... you deserve to be proud of your dson. He's working hard to achieve his goals!

Nancy... looks like your weather is better today. The baby sounds like she is becoming aware of her closeness to you!

Ran some errands (gas, bank deposit & got my minutes lowered on our cell phone). Actually should have done the cell thing months ago. I had 12,000 roll-over minutes. Obviously since we both went to unlimited text (which gives us free calls to any mobile, regardless of carrier), we aren't using the minutes. Duh!! Was going to lower my data plan, but where it is now, it has a discount. If I lower it, it will be a bit more $$ as the discount goes away.

Hoping dh comes in soon for some lunch. There's a chicken bar-b-q here later today. Told him to just go ahead and purchase 1 & we'll split it. He's trying to fight a cold and asking for anything I have to ward it off. He absolutely doesn't need to get a cold this week and have to postpone surgery. So please pray that those germs go away!!

My cousin sent me some pictures this week of me, my db, and my dad & her dad. So appreciate having those. Was a real chuckle to see how well-dressed they were and obviously going hunting.

It's very cool breezy out today, but at least the sun is shining. DGS8 & DS-R are in South Bend, IN at WKA event. DDIL#1 just texted a picture of DGS on the outside pole of the upcoming race. Sure that's doing wonders for his confidence. He's the youngest in their class. Love to hear good news, but I can't stand to watch. Get way too nervous.

I hope this is a fantastic year for you.

I will hope that with you, Helia. It's time for one, but into each year, I'm afraid, some rain must fall. I can take the rain, just would be nice not to have a storm.

Upstairs is almost finished, just have to finish the bed. There's half a load of laundry on the line, the stuff I could peg securely. The remainder I hung inside because it is on hangers and they'd be all over the yard in moments with the breeze outside.

It still hasn't gone full sunshine but it isn't raining either.

Tried the wet sweeper cloth on my Sw iffer and it worked well for the bathroom but the 'fresh scent' is too strong for me. I'm happy for the wind today as that is helping to blow the smell out of the bedroom level. Not sure I'll use them again.

For the kitchen it doesn't work as well because I need to scrub and the handle on my swi ffer isn't strong enough to take the pressure - it is meant for dusting, not scrubbing. And, again, the smell is too strong. I think I'm better off just using the damp mop. It is just that I'm too lazy to carry the bucket and mop upstairs for two tiny bathrooms. Dd suggested me trying her method (these wet clothes) but her tolerance for the smell is much higher than mine. She's like her daddy. Ds is my kid in that regard.

Three DGrandchildren (6, 4 & 2 years old) are down for a rest. DGD2 immediately fell asleep. DGS6 and LO are laying on couch watching a cartoon. I suspect they both will drop off to sleep .......if I can get them to stop giggling for 20 seconds.

DSon and DDIL have decided to start a Christmas tree farm. This morning we toured some pasture land about 10 miles from our home. We are going to contact some financial people about moving the land out of our name and putting it into a trust for the grandchildren. Thankfully there are much smarter people than I to figure out that stuff.

DSon & DDIL are off helping two sets of the Great Grandparents. Yesterday DSon & DDIL told their Greats to make a list of things they needed done. Now they are attempting to get many of the items on the lists done.

Well, our forsythia had not one but THREE honeysuckle bushes in it. And a fourth random something or other plant. How did we not notice earlier? It is a clump of 5 large forsythia on the far corner of our property. I guess we don't look over there very often. While out there, dh and I took down a junk tree that was leaning from our property across the small road to the north. I also did a little more trimming and sprayed what I think is poison ivy on the edge of the wooded area.

Yes, dfil is a wise man. He is extremely patient, kind, loving, devoted, and systematic. I think he was also a very good father to his children, and I credit his excellent model for dh's being a great father too.

I finally took dd14 to pick up the lenses for her glasses. It had been 3 months. They were stillt here. *phew* They weren't quite the right size for the frames, so we had to wait a bit while they ground them down to fit. That is finally done. We should not have waited 3 months. . .

OK, I'm going to make the bed and then check on the hens. Iggy has gone broody. . . . I'll throw her out to see if she'll eat and drink something. That's what I did when Iris went broody.
