Finally Friday Conga

Post by Twins' Mom »

Conga on toward the weekend with the PWYC village; step and kick into the line and out when you're done.

From Wikopedia:

The conga dance style is more of a march, which is characterized by its distinctive conga drum rhythm. It differs from the rumba, which uses more hip movements and shows the sensually aggressive attitude of each dancer. Conga music is played with a staccato beat as its base, which gives rhythm to the movements of the dancers. Conga dancers lift their legs in time with the rhythm of the music, marking each beat with the strong motion of their body. The basic steps start from left leg 1-2-3 kick then repeat, opposite. Originally a band member, wearing a drum and beating would venture onto the dance floor. He would start zigzagging around the floor with his drum and the dancer would start to follow him behind doing the dance like a slithering snake. The line grows and the drums intensify until the drum stopped played. The dance has no fancy ending like many others do. The dance has two styles, which is a single line form and partners. The single line is more popular in Cuba. However, the conga line was done much earlier and was introduced at a wedding reception (Frieda's) as early as 1905 by the "Gloriosky Old Maids", specifically Prudence Adams.[3]

Another day and then the weekend! Thank heavens we have a quiet weekend going here, and a quiet week next week as well.

I need to:
-straighten for dcleaning lady
-walk ddogs and a.m. routine
-phone call at 8:30 to discuss religious school
-buy a small stuffed animal of some kind for dsis (she requested this)
-get on the road to visit dsis

I'm going to Conga from room to room first....

Wow, I did not know all that history! Thanks, Twins' Mom!

First day of summer around these parts. Google is cute today.

My ddad saw to it that we woke up early. HRH is going to research wall clocks that show am/pm and see if any seem easy to read. Until my ddad stares carefully at his cellphone for quite a while, he can't tell that it is 6:00 a.m., not a half-hour past his suppertime. So he begins yelling.

I need to light a fire under my daughter, since she has laundry escaping her basket. She might be having a sleepover and we need to be prepared.

Good morning! I am up and s2sed, have checked emails, and am sipping my tea. Dd15 is back home now, so we are a family of 5 once again.

Google is cute!

PODA:
- WW 9:30
- jog with dh around 10:00? I'll need to leave WW early in order to do that. . .
- a.m. routine
- groc. store
- maybe Target
- DPC
- work on getting caught up on financial stuff
- laundry
- final go through on my resume
- forsythia?
- change sheets?
- boys here at 2:45?
- dd17's small group here 3:45 - 6:00
- grad party this evening

Gardening guy should be here at 11; dh has hired him again this summer. He can take care of the weeds in our ground cover, and dh will talk to him about how to trim the forsythia.

It is not clear if we are eating out together before the party or planning on just eating at the party.

Good Morning!

Twins - Pillow Pets are a huge hit with our DGChildren. They can be rolled up like a typical stuffed animal or spread out and used as a pillow. You are SUCH A GOOD SISTER!

After doing AM cards I went outside about sunrise and sprayed a gallon of weed killer along the inside fence line. Early morning is usually about the only time the wind is calm enough to spray.

I'm going to be ALONE for about 2 hours this morning. All a-l-o-n-e. Very unusual for me to not have at least one DGChild with me. LO is going to "help" DH this morning while I attend WW and do a little shopping on the way home.

Pillow pet - Resident teen here approves these. The smaller version of the pillow pet is available lots of places, too. I found a giraffe one that was a huge hit with her. She can roll/hook it into the roll shape and use it for a neckroll. But the face is as charming as any stuffed toy when put away on a shelf. (Don't laugh! Sometimes you can see an individual thing on her shelves. Sometimes it's right side up.)

helia, when you jog and redo your resume you make the rest of us look good. ;)

We don't have Target or TRU so I'm not sure about those 2 stores but I would think so. I have seen Pillow Pets at Walmart.

Last time I was in Target, I saw at least a purple hippo in the Domestics section. Might have been others but that one sort of jumped out at me! Toys R Us are so far away we never go there! Gee, they should have lots of them, though....I would think ToysRUS the best guess. Strangely, I got the giraffe at Wal greens! Wonder if that was special holiday stock...
