Right there with you, Lilac! Hate any hint of drama. I'm very NON-confrontational. So any little (probably often enlarged in my mind) upset bothers me greatly. Sure LucyLee relates to all of that a lot.
Oh, the rain! As dd and I went toward our town it came down literally in buckets. Passed DS-A on our way -he was on his way to a house hit by lightening. When we came back I saw flooding like I've never seen. Dcampowner called dh a while ago -dh started to say, "If there's anything I can do to help" and realized it was senseless to say. We have had about 1 1/2" since about 4:30. A lot of pop up showers and micro bursts. Sure glad we didn't go to Conesus Lake today -though I think they may have been somewhat spared. As bad as the rain is -at least it's not fire or tornadoes or hurricanes or blizzards.
Oh, dKathryn!! I pray you're feeling better by the time you get back home. Worry about you, while I'm worrying about dh. He's had a down day again...seems to be the pattern right now. I did buy a new BP machine while I was out. Will start taking that and record it.
((Kathryn)) -- hope you are feeling much better & at home.
((Mr Dee))
Lilac, so glad things worked out for you.
We got just enough rain that I don't have to go out & water the flowers .
Yikes -- dh just asked when dinner is & it is almost 8PM here. No wonder he's hungry. I had a few slices of cheese earlier (Leyden, Helia ) so I never noticed how late it has gotten.
In bed. Heat on my back to relax the tension from my trunk.
I haven't taken pain killers yet because I'm waiting to figure out if my stomach has anything more to offer up. The frozen bottle of water on the back of my neck kept me from being sick until I got home, which took over 5 hours after the attack started. I'm extraordinarily impressed with how well that worked. I let myself be sick when I got home because it seems to me that getting the ill-chosen lunch out of my stomach as quickly as possible was my fastest path to recovery.
I do feel better so this is a classic gall bladder attack. Except, of course, I don't have a gall bladder. The doc said it was not out of the realm of possibility that I might get another attack so I'm kind of biding my time to see whether this means there was a stone still in my system (would have thought it would hit sooner than 3 weeks later) or whether it is a sign of how I can't process excess fat in a meal (hopefully 'yet' and not 'ever again'.)
Kathryn, you are on my mind. I guess you can imagine I was blaming the train mode of transportation for aggravating nausea, etc. Still not so sure.
Lynlee, I never had a plumber here who wasn't disappointed in something some previous plumber had done. Par for the course.
Lilac, I think your dh sometimes needs to be the one who happens to answer the phone (or return the call) when your dds call. If some conflict brews, it could only be good to hear the voice of Daddy for a reality check. If things to be said can't be left as a message with Dad, then maybe they shouldn't be said in the first place. This could be good for him, too. He doesn't need you having trouble sleeping, constantly worrying. He needs a rested, happy wife.
Oh, Kathryn, I'm so sorry to hear you've been sick again! And for it to start while you're traveling is the worst. . .. I'm impressed by the frozen bottle at the base of the neck. I've never herd of that before!
I got distracted this afternoon b/c I discovered 2 part-time job openings about which I'm actually excited. There is actually an opening at our local community college!! Now, what the chances are that I could get it I'm not so sure when I'm competing with younger whipper-snappers with more recent degrees and experience. . . . I'm not sure I'm very competitive anymore. Still, I will apply. It can't hurt. The other job is in a town about 35 miles away. I'm not sure I want to be commuting there on a weekly basis, esp. since I'm looking for something pretty low-key in terms of time commitment.
Between dd15, dd17, and dd17's friend, the girls today made: raspberry macaroons, patriotic cupcakes, and choc. chip cookie dough. Everything from scratch. There is still chocolate mousse leftover from last night. HOW is a girl supposed to lose weight in an environment like this?
You all pretty well know who my dh (or can figure it out easily) so I'm not going to bother to hide it by posting this under members only.
Dh and dd are feeling a bit blue tonight with the news that Doug Englebart has died. For those of you who don't know, he was the inventor of the computer mouse.
Here's dh's blogged memory of Doug and some photos of my dd and dh with Doug at his home, when he took the time to show my dd (then in Grade 10) the first mouse.
Dh and conductor both thought the train was the cause of or aggravating the nausea but it was a combination of pain and indigestion. When an attack hits, it hits hard and fast. Stepping onto the train, I was fine. Getting settled into my seat was fine. Seat was uncomfortable, my back was sore, so I pulled out my lumbar pillow. As soon as I put it in place and my back still hurt, I realized it was an attack. In the space of three minutes I went from feeling fine to breaking out in a sweat from the pain. A bathroom break didn't help much, and moving around was painful.
The movement of the train didn't help the pain at all, but after a while with the ice on my neck, I was able to relax my body so I could sway a bit with the train. My guess is the cold inhibited the nerves from transmitting the pain/nausea to my brain or it just numbed me enough to get through the 4:20 train ride.
I had anti-nausea meds with me but I didn't want to use them because I needed to get the bad meal (cheeseburger from McD) out of my system and I find the meds stall the digestive process. They work great on me for motion sickness but not for food poisoning (unless my stomach is completely emptied.)
A quick google search shows this is not an aberration. One person had success with an aspirin to restore the balance in the gut. According to Mr. Google (I haven't confirmed this info) my liver is still producing bile and has no way of storing it (that is what the gall bladder did) and so I've got too much in my gut and need to balance it. I'm going to research this further. Diet is the best way to avoid trouble but if I cross a line, I need to have a remedy at hand if there is one.
Dgd15 and dgs11 finally arrived--though 2 hours late. We stopped at Wendy's on the way home for chicken sandwiches and frostys for them as they had had no dinner. We stayed up till almost midnight relaxing and visiting. We all slept in a little this morning! It's so nice to be with them again!
((Kathryn))...I'm glad you made it home and will start to feel better!
((Lilac))...I don't like drama either. Glad it finally worked out for you. I'm very non-controversial and keep most of my opinions to myself when there is drama between daughters-in-law. I do try to keep the peace. Sometimes that fence gets pretty slim.
Weather....That drought map was interesting OKay. I wish the western half of the country would get enough rain. Our yard had finally drained dry yesterday with no rain. Today made up for it. We got such a deluge all afternoon that the back flooded again worse and came in the back door. It took 6 large bath towels and a heavy throw rug to sop up the water. In thinking about it I think we need to redo the french drain that runs by that back wall. It's all ok though, nothing was damaged!
I need to call ddil#2 tomorrow morning to see if they want to meet at one of the local places that will have fireworks. We all just had a quiet relaxing day today, so I'm sure the dgkids will be ready to go do something. Dgs wasn't feeling too good this afternoon; he had missed taking his allergy meds earlier, but after dinner and a shower he was a little better. He was in bed and asleep by 8:30 pm.
Kathryn...that was a very nice article your dh wrote about Doug Englebart, and so nie for dd to meet him also.
Everyone's sleeping, time to turn out the lights!

and ta-da for me --
Dmom & I survived Trip 1 very well. Dmom just about talked my ear OFF, but that still made the time pass pretty well, and it's not unpleasant conversation at all... just, as dbro & I were talking about later, sooo RANDOM. Dbro says it's the pain med she takes for her back pain. * sheesh * The problem is she starts talking about one thing and wanders off into a tangent about something else and completely loses the conversation you started with. Sometimes I'm interested in topic one and I get frustrated when it gets lost in topic two, you know? LOL.
Oh well.
The bad thing is, I thought this was trip one of two, and then two more in a couple of months.
No.
This is trip one of four, and then, apparently, three or four more in a couple of months.
* sheesh *
And trip three will be overnight, b/c surgery requires her to be there at 6:45 a.m. -- two hours' away. She and I agree it would be better to spend the night rather than leave home at 4:30 in the morning!
Oh well.
Surgery is scheduled (tentatively) for Aug. 9. Then I'll have to take her back on the 12th for a post-op check up.
* sheesh *
I'm exhausted just thinking about it. If I really let him know I need him, dh would probably be willing and able to accompany me on any of these trips, but I made the drive fine, and really, he probably would just give me something else to stress about.
I'm going to watch Perry Mason and Downton Abbey (I'm starting season 2 tonight!) and try to put dmom out of my mind for a while!
