DM was 85 today.

yoga - I went to kneeling or or standing i/l of all 4s downward dog. Balance poses (tree today) I do leaning back on a padded 1' across post. When Left arm raised asked for - not done at all. Well out in front if supported. It does the rest of me good to be back there. Instructor says she can see gradual improvement. And that my left bicep has disappeared. I have a doc appointment tomorrow and will ask for an ultrasound of the elbow connection.

rang dm early in morning, and late in afternoon. Card arrived and was appreciated. She is impossible to buy for, so sent "Mother" hanky from my drawer. It has never been used so still had a new feel to it.

dbro's surgery is Tuesday our time. I think that is your Monday night. veins groin to heart cleaned out, and corners of heart chambers filled in. It will cost heaps of $$ as not covered by pvt ins or national govt scheme. Overnight in hospital, and maybe stay more than 1 extra night in nearby motel - rather than 3.5 hours away. And no farms or grandchildren or dogs to deal with. He needs to be off his anti clot drugs too.
My neice told dm that he is grumpy. I don't think she realizes how sick he has been. Of course - he's also been working hard with 2 weeks of spraying invasive exotic pest grass. There is a govt schedule that has to be complied with.

I need a hot shower for my arm/shoulder. I really need watch my posture as I could easily revert to constant slouch atm. Another thing yoga has helped me with.

Giving you gentle hugs (((Lynlee))). Thank you for opening today. I will be praying for your db as he under goes his heart procedure. I'm glad that your yoga instructor is seeing gradual improvement.

Dh just left to go to corporate headquarters for the contract negotiations. They will spend the night and come back tomorrow.

Today dd1, her dh, dgd16 and dgs19 will be driving to the same small city. That is where dgs19 will be going to college. Dd1 said they can be in his dorm from 1-4, to unpack, etc. They will then go out to eat, find the location of the church that has been recommended to him and then go back to the campus at 6 for a dessert buffet. At 7 they will be "invited" to leave, so that the student can begin his college experience. The small amount of money that they spent last month for that 2 day orientation experience was the best money they have ever spent and gave us all the peace of mind to let him go away to college. Dgs19 came over Monday afternoon and we played Scrabble. He said he was both excited and nervous.

Yesterday I took dgd3 to dance lessons. It was the first day of the fall session. I was very happy to see all new faces. When I took her in July, I experienced a "dance mom" group. Yikes! There were 2 other times available for her but Monday night at 6 or on Saturday morning would be too hard for dd2 to do with the other kids. I would have to help out anyway, so I committed to do the Tuesday afternoon lessons. This way we avoid the dance mom group.

Dd1 started back to work on Monday, so no more morning walks for us. Yesterday I spent an hour pulling weeds. We have boxwoods that run the length of our property between the sidewalk and the curb. Dh keeps them trimmed to less than 3 ft high. This summer weeds have grown around the perimeter of them. After I get the weeds pulled, I want to lay down the black weed barrier and then put dark rocks or mulch on it.

I am debating whether to mow today or tomorrow. We haven't watered in 2 weeks. A normal August of not watering, we would have dead grass. Instead it is green and growing rapidly. Because of the out of the ordinary weather we are experiencing, everyone is wondering what our winter will bring. This area used to have a lot of snow but it has decreased yearly. Dh plans to get his industrial sized snow blower ready for duty.

Guess I better do breakfast and meds.

Lynlee, thanks for expressing the timetable on your dbrother's surgery for us. I'm surprised this is not covered by the "government scheme" in any way as you said, but I suppose he is comparatively young, now that I think of it. In the Mercola newsletter today there's an article questioning the costs of heart (and other) surgeries in different countries and why the difference. A fortune more in the US, for instance, than India, where heart surgery is evidently done with great success, too. Not twice as much, 100 times as much. HRH heard this as he was leaving this a.m. and said, "liability insurance".

Lilac, we have of course had that same unusually wet summer. Now they tell us we've actually passed the last of potential over-90-degree days, so we are on the downside and never really had stressed landscapes except for some damage from hard rains. Btw, I wanted to thank you for your kind thoughts when my dad passed away.

I can't believe I'm as close to weekend events as I am and I still have a day to spend with a sleepover guest whose family is suggesting we get together for supper out when we return her. I could invite them here, but wonder if that wouldn't cause even more work for me. Just feeding the girls today may be time-consuming since she doesn't care for things I have here. Last sleepover of this summer, I think.

A favorite reality show comes on this evening. Thinking of Lilac's encounter with some people who are like "Dance Moms", I frowned. Yuck. I would stay away from those, too. There are reality shows and there are reality shows. Some are basically showing "how not to act", but may just be giving license to act badly! Eccentric is pleasant and inclusive. Anger and ugly actions have no place.

what is a dance mom group, Lilac? Does that mean the moms must dance too? Yikes is my reaction too!! How exciting for dgs19! I hope they have a great trip. Is this his first year of college?

Nice to see you here, Harriet! I hope you and dd can figure out something simple the guest will eat.

I got everything I wanted done yesterday and had a nice time visiting with dfriend J. S2 arrived about 8:30 for more visiting. We eventually walked to WF to get a bottle of wine of which we all, including dh, partook a glass to go with popcorn popped on the stove. S2 left a little before 11pm, at which point we all started getting ready for bed. Poor dh was ready for some peace and quiet by the end of the evening. He had meetings at work all day, met with the pastor at some point, had dinner out with a friend, and came home to a house full of chatty women. Dfriend J is a very strong extrovert, very talkative.

Dfriend J had more meetings at work today so she is gone. Ds has left for work too. I think he's finishing out this week, working 1 day next week b/c of our staycation, and then 1 day the following week, which is the week he'll move into his apartment. His last day may depend a little on his getting his projects finished or in a good place to be passed on to others.

- dinner: tuna pasta, salad, rolls. J is spending the evening with other friends tonight.

I have taken the dogs out to go potty and had a cup of tea. I'm off to get the a.m. routine out of the way.

helia, I am so proud of you that you keep yourself blissfully unaware of a lot of television, which is so wise! But when you watch some like me, you end up seeing promos for lots. That's how I know (from minute promos) that "Dance Moms" is a reality show about a dance school in which (supposedly) the mothers are demanding, loud and vindictive, and the teacher(s?) are critical. Of course a lot of that may be falsely dramatic for the cameras.

Wonder how a psychologist would diagnose my intense desire to have a beautiful table, streamers, balloons, hanging decorations, triple-tablecloth, bows for the party? It's almost getting comical. HRH watched me bring in stuff yesterday and is listening to my plans of moving the table, climbing around on chairs to decorate, etc. He was confused, since I seldom make such a fuss! Perhaps this is the first creative opportunity that's passed my way in a while so I'm just grabbing these ideas out of the air and running with them before they get away. Perhaps I'm grasping for a family happy-moment to counteract the sober times recently.

Oh, I aired my ignorance. . . .LOL! Yes, it is true - we don't watch TV here. We do have one, a 19 year old set, actually, and it is in the play room in the basement. It was large and modern at one point in time. Dkids use the set for video games sometimes, and I think it occasionally gets used for watching DVDs, though we watch most movies these days on laptops. . .. My kids never danced, so I don't know if there is that culture around dance schools or not, but it sounds like Lilac has encountered it. Dd17 did do competitive gymnastics for a while, and there was not that culture there, at least not at her gym.

I am s2s-ed. Dh and I will go out for coffee and shopping for a recording/play back device as soon as he is s2s-ed.

I am so thrilled to have a mostly quiet day today. I think I am going to go to 2 p.m. funeral but that's the only thing on the schedule. Tomorrow is busy, busy with getting dd to K-town. I need to walk ddogs soon but it's a cooler morning here with lower humidity so I'm not in a huge hurry.

Dee, I had wondered how things are going for you and dh.

Don't watch much TV here, except for what dh watches when I join him. DD did ballet for a few years but her school was very noncompetitive and low key. (Same color leotard/tights for each age group,h hair in tight bun for performances, no fru-fru stuff.)

Dogs are impatient.

I forgot to answer question about my cowboy DBro. He is doing okay since his botched complete shoulder replacement surgery had to be redone. His arm doesn't hang at awkward angle as it did. DBro pushes himself hard and tends to ignore limits placed on him. He was told he wouldn't be able to reach over head, but I've seen him grabbed hold of a hay bale spear and used the hydraulics to raise his arm overhead to break loose the scar tissue. He is horse back once again (amazing in itself since he has had both knees replaced). However he is not able to do things he once did with rope. He isn't participating in competitive roping events but he hasn't given up yet. He has a dozen (or so) horses in various stages of being trained. As part of that training (and his love of the events) DBro trailers several of the horses several times a month and rides in parades & rodeo openings. However the day-to-day roping/riding all day long to check & doctor cattle is hasn't resumed. He leaves that to the younger cowboys and does his checking from the seat of a pickup (using dart gun to shoot meds into cattle as needed)

Dbro was checking cattle in our pastures last night when I made a quick stop in front of our house to unload groceries. Dbro pulled into the driveway about the same time as I did so I told him I wasn't being stuck up but I couldn't talk to him because I was running late. He jumped out of his pickup to help me. He grabbed handles of reusable shopping bags containing about 30lbs of groceries in each one and he carried 3 of them at one time into the house without any problem. I'm sure DBro isn't satisfied with the results of surgery but he came out MUCH better than the surgeons predicted.

OKay thanks for the update on your dbro. I, too, was wondering how he was doing. The human spirit and body can be so much more powerful than doctors' predictive abilities.

I'm up and s2s. Got out of bed an hour later than intended, haven't exercised, have a sore leg and am not completely motivated. On the other hand, we are away on Friday/Saturday so I need to get the service finished before we leave. And I still have to get ahead of the curve for September 1 so hopefully will finish up most of that service while in the car on Friday.

Dh will be at a luncheon today, and we'll have dinner out at a church supper. It is so nice to go to a church supper at another denomination so I don't have to work it as well!
