Perception Thursday

Post by Twins' Mom »

I saw this quote earlier and liked it:
“You and I do not see things as they are. We see things as we are.”
― Herb Cohen
A good reminder that our own thoughts and insides color what is going on around us. If we're negative, we see things negatively and vice-versa. And also the truth I saw this weekend with dfriends who aren't together any more - there's her reality, his reality and the "truth" somewhere in between.

Today I'm getting dd and her things back to K-town. Because she has the defensive driving course on Sat and then court date on Tuesday for speeding, she has to be back here tomorrow night. The plan is that I drop her off today to settle in and that she takes the mega-bus home tomorrow afternoon. DH will be leaving Sat a.m. to take ds to GA Tech.

DD left me a note at some point asking if I wanted to leave later today - now there's a surprise. (NOT!) She was moving around boxes and looking for things late last night but I didn't say a word. I have a massage booked again for tomorrow (stress relief until things settle down) but need to check to see if it conflicts w dd's arrive back here via Mega B us.

Gotta get moving and get ddogs walked. A cooler morning here - only 65 degrees right now.

Sounds like you have a full plate for the next few, Twins. Then perhaps you can relax a little?
I am praying that this time, it will turn around and his recovery can finally begin.
Me too, me too, Lilac. He certainly seemed more 'chipper' this morning. Hoping that continues through the day.

I have to go to a town further away than our regular w mart today so I can pick up a new meter and testing strips. Tried to get them yesterday when we were right at the one in the town where we went to see the cardiologist! bummer -they had none!! I have one strip left and this meter and strips are considerably cheaper. So will switch. Have one test strip left so really need to get it today.

Haven't even gotten dgs over here yet -think that's where dh walked to a little while ago though.

Had the heat on through the night. Think it's a jeans day for sure. Off to s2s and get this day started (though a little late). Perhaps my perception will clear and I'll have a good take on things today. :D
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

Geez, I got mixed up and when Twin's dd was being taken to K-town I thought she had transferred schools. Turns out I had the kids and their schools mixed up.

Lynlee Talk about perception. I was seeing two issues - sweat stains (unavoidable since I have the same issue with dh's side of our bed on all our sheets and mattress pads) and moisture coming up from the slats. Of course, you're seeing the moisture from the sweat getting on the slats.

I'm thinking now the issue is that he has the mattress upside down. It is a foam mattress with a memory foam side and regular foam side. When he set it up here, he flipped it so memory foam was against the slats. I'm wondering if the latex against the slats caused the mold. He used to sweat more at the apartment than here but says there was no sign of moisture on the mattress when he moved in here. So why all the sweat stains and moisture problems now?

He's worried he has to toss the mattress after the move (more $$$) but now I'm wondering if there's a reason, aside from comfort, that the instructions say don't flip the mattress. Certainly, he isn't the only person to have this issue, I found comments online from other people as well, and just as fast (in one case 5 weeks) but these are old posts so I can't ask if they had the mattress memory foam side up or not.

I'm up, s2s, just finished tea and chocolate. Ds is asleep in the living room (open concept house so there are no walls between us but he's 50+ feet away.) I'm going to wake him soon and tell him to get his stuff back out into the sun to bake some more.

Twins' Mom, I feel better already after your purchase. :)

Oooo, "chipper" is a good word, Dee. Like that word.

Today I need to make a bunch of cupcake decorations.
Grocery shopping needs doing.
More house cleaning
Wrap shower present.
Press dd to remember anyone else she wants at her party.

The mystery package that arrived here still has not been "claimed" by anyone. If it wasn't so personalized to our/dd's tastes I would be inclined to think it's some strange mistake. It's posters from a favorite (nice, nerdy) tv show of hers, but frankly we didn't think many people knew she liked the show, and why would it be sent to HRH? As it is, I suppose we give it to her for her birthday and just tell her we have no idea who sent it??? I half expect a message requesting that we send an errant package back... ...

~~~mystery~~~ solved
After typing this I questioned why I couldn't sleuth any better than that! 8-) Aha! Turns out shipper has a parent company :idea: and it's Art.com. Call to their customer service dept saying, "I feel I should send this back if WE owe you money?" reveals the gift-giver's name. The old friend of HRH who travels through often on his elec. engin. training route, usually eats at least at meal or two with us. He must have seen dd watching the program, talked with her about it. Very nice of him, and no idea whether he realized he was causing us confusion or not. It would actually be just like him to tease us, but Art.com man says confusion sometimes happens when an order is placed through Amazon and shipped to another person. Amazon doesn't need a billing address because it's already paid, so there may be little info in the box. Now I can wrap the gift and set it out with others with a clear conscience.
DD has decided that we will go later - perhaps leave around three when the unloading line should be less crowded. She's up and watching TV. I'm going to work on a.m. routine...
-kitchen counters
-kitchen table
-breakfast bar
-check on massage time for tomorrow
-straighten MBR
I can also leave the house in better shape - dcleaning lady will be here tomorrow and it's always a rush to straighten up. Rabbi had another appt today so I'm not meeting separately with him this week.
Dfriend left about 1/2 an hour ago. I'm drinking my tea in a quiet house! It is glorious! Dh left for work early - he actually missed a 7:30 a.m. meeting. . Ds left for work a little after 8.
I have taken the dogs out to go potty 2x. We got everything in the po*p pen this time. :) I have chatted a bit with dfriend J, checked emails, responded to a couple - moms group business.
Dd17 is going to use my car this afternoon so I want to get my errands done by 1 pm. Then, I'll have a couple more quiet hours at home by myself. Ah! I'm really needing a more low-key day after all the busyness and socializing this week.
B/c (I think) I'm having a more low-key day, I decided it was OK to host Thursday dinner, so I've emailed friends about that. I only have about 2.7 lbs of boneless pork chops, though. If everyone comes, there will be 8 people - and I'm not sure that is enough. . . . . I guess that is about 1/3 pound/person, which should be OK.
I'm behind on numerous things - but it is my perception that my weeks of heightened busyness are drawing to a close. No more travels. The baby shower is done. The band tasks (figuring out concert shirts + fitting marching uniforms) are done. My tutoring sessions now have direction, so they will be easier to prepare in the future. We've hosted the pastor and family for an afternoon. We've hosted dfriend J overnight for a couple nights. The moms group child care situation is not looking so dire anymore, though we still need a coordinator. . .
Still on the burner and coming up: finishing a very long online job application. Getting first moms group steering comm. meeting organized. Making sure ds has what he needs for his apt. and moving him in 2 weeks. Figuring out the child care coordinator for moms group. Some yardwork - there's some serious trimming that needs to happen + weeding.
Today:
- pay bills
- get caught up on laundry
- Target
- exercise - this should be a jogging day for me. I went to the gym with dh yesterday. He is not running anymore b/c of the sore muscle he's been nursing since his last half-marathon in early June. He has rested, ran slowly - and it is still sore. He has finally gone to the Dr. and will be going to a physical therapist. He pushes himself and doesn't know when to stop sometimes.
- some emails - steer. comm. meeting
At work. Checked for phone messages (should have checked earlier, I missed an important one) and processed the mail.
Will check the email next, then get to work writing.
First day of the new school year had a successful start. No tears. There was a moment when I thought LO might not stay (he grabbed hold of my hand and held on tight) but he did fine. ***Phew**** Those practice runs paid off!
I have so much I want to do, that I find myself almost numb & frozen. I'm just sitting here not getting anything done. That makes no sense! Just do something!
Good morning, villagers ~
Yesterday at home I had to make up for running away to sew on Tuesday. Laundry & dishes & cleaning, trash to the curb last night, all those boring chores. Also finished a library book that is due tomorrow.
Today is errand day in The Big City. I have a list of things to shop for -- cat litter, fruit, something for supper tonight, etc. Also must meet with the sewing group's treasurer to sign some checks.
We're meeting at a fabric/machine store so she can take them her machine for service. I'll look for fabric to make another pair of wrap-around pants. When we had our meeting last week at this store, they showed some beautiful rayon blend batiks, and gave a coupon for 25% off. The coupon expires tomorrow.
I'd better go put on some makeup so I don't scare little children at the grocery store. :)
