You're so right, MT. There will be NO smoking here. Have a feeling they may opt for a motel if our place isn't available. Of course there's always dd's MH, but it's supposed to be rented out during that time period. And I'm the one too cheap to pay for a 3-day camping site. We'll see......

Dh is resting after 'supervising' the laying of the mulch. ;) He gets wiped out by very little.

I've been puttering and really cleaning up/out 'spots'.

DGS8 is here and slowly eating toast, slice by slice. At least he's eating.

Have dsgs's wedding tomorrow. We don't plan to go for very long. May complicate matters as dsgd13 is in the wedding and we're bringing her back to town. She's going to NC with a friend for 2 weeks. Hoping she'll be ready to come back fairly early. Wedding is about an hour & a half away. Have some black compression stockings for dh to wear tomorrow.

Think I have either 8 or 9 more days to watch dgs8. He's a good kid to have around, but I have a lot of other things I need to accomplish in that time frame. We've promised to take him to see "Planes" but I don't think it will be today.

helia, I guess I should make myself clearer. The fence will just be the standard 6 ft. high. We have a single size detached garage in the back.The gate was to be a total of 16 ft. wide, with 2 gates that met in the middle. Then the guy told dh how he could make one that was 5 ft. wide and then the other side would be 11-12 ft wide. The small side would latch to the wider side, like a regular gate. Then dh could just open the small gate when he was leaving on his motorcycle. I am glad that you mentioned the gutter clogging. Since we have been without gutters for going on 2 years, I forgot about them clogging. We will need to see if they have guttering with guards attached that keep anything but water from going thru.

Dee: Tell them to quit being such cheapskates and get a motel room. DH is sick and you don't have time to entertain them. BE STRONG!! BE FIRM!! and don't wimp out. Their smoking makes you sick, her crabbing makes you uneasy and she isn't nice to your daughter. Why should you be nice to her???? :evil:
Where the "like" button here?

Yes, Helia, I lose regularly when I put things off too many times. And I'm off again....massage, groceries, p/y dd, also need both kinds of dog food here. (Macs gets a gastrointestinal low fat stuff from vet, Moe's comes from Petsmart, but we'll trade out either way for a feeding or two if one is low.)
Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better [wo]man. Ben Franklin

Thanks Lilac. I get it with the fence! Yes, our gutters have guards. I think that is the correct term - not filters. Our property has a lot of mature trees. Lovely - but messy.

Tickled that MT and OK were more direct and to the point responding to Dee than I was. . . . :) I think we're all a little flabbergasted.

I still haven't left- I just gathered laundry and started a load. Dh just fixed something on our washing machine.

Oops! Maia brought contraband into the house - an apple from one of our trees. I need to remove that from her

I agree with MT, Dee, you are 'northern' you don't need to be polite, tell her the truth and let her deal with it. She can either cancel the trip, or choose another place to stay.

Dh and I are on the road for an overnight stay at dd's godparents' home. We got off very late.

I have two computers with me, my regular one and the computer that is usually on the treadmill. I finally thought to look at remaining disk space and discovered I only had 2 gigs (out of 33) free on the computer so that is likely the source of a lot of my difficulty with it. It took ages this morning to do anything (2 - 4 minutes to change from one program to another) but I've uninstalled all programs I don't need (I only need browsers, my palm pilot backup and a recording programs on that computer) and I've deleted most of the files (since my new computer has them.)

I'm now running a disk cleanup that should take hours so doing it while driving along is a good use of my time. I feel like I'm triple-tasking.

Harriet's dd15's birthday reminds me it is time to change the password on my computer. And it tells me that I've had this computer 5 years (since the password on the treadmill computer assumes dd15 is still dd10.)

Happy Birthday to HRH & Harriet DD!!
Happy Birthing Day to Harriet!

Playing Time slot tetris .......moved DGS16 timeslot from tomorrow to this afternoon. That meant I needed DH to break free of his doings this afternoon and get LO from school for me and hang together until I get home.

Our plans for the this weekend are set in jello. DSon and family were coming to stay with us this weekend so they could be with us on Monday. However Monday's doings have been cancelled......so are they still coming? >>shrugging shoulders<<< who knows. They travel so much that their schedules are in constant flux. DSon is in Chicago today with tentative plans to return to his home tonight. I am going to take a guess and arraign my Time Slot Tetris cubes with expectation of them arriving here mid afternoon tomorrow.

I'll pick DGS16 up from school at 2:30 today and spend a several hours together one-on-one. Getting myself into "listening" mode. I'm always a bit amazed at the things he shares with me. Teen years are not easy.

Well, I just tried to delete a post in Yesterday's thread; I got confused because it went up into the Friday date...and got really confused and annoyed when I figured it out that TODAY is Friday and not Thursday...and guess what I missed going to the lab to get my fasting bloodwork done. What is wrong with my brain these days? I will go Monday morning asap I guess.

Been working long amounts of time on paperwork with DH. I'd sure like to get some of these jobs we've been bidding. At least the guy from the last one liked our number. He said his other bid was from a guy "trying to put his kids through college on the job!" :shock: Hmmm, maybe the other guy makes a profit when we don't.....

Anyway, barely keeping up with the house as usual. Showed DH my hand which is very bad right now (skin) and had him read the info I printed off from the internet. That was a good call, because later he finished loading up the dishwasher for me. Soaps are bad. I use rubber gloves. Even plain water is bad. I have started shampooing my hair with rubber gloves on...try that, it ain't easy!

Gotta go run put dinner on..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HARRIET'S DD AND HRH!

I borrowed 2 books from the library just because of their beautiful covers. They are both on the topic of cutting up books (gasp!! :shock: ) to use the pages for art projects.
One is BOOK ART by Clare Youngs.
The other is PLAYING WITH BOOKS by Jason Thompson.
Lots of fun ideas in both books if you like paper crafts.

from Helia:
It sounds like you have a happening library, Bookie!

We're trying. Unfortunately, it appears that the only way to make things "happen" is to have some sort of disagreement at almost every meeting. :P I have decided to start rereading the THRUSH GREEN series by Miss Read (full of eccentric characters in an English village) to remind myself that cantankerous characters can be funny. ;)

The boring business part of the library meeting went on so long that we only had 10 minutes for brainstorming, but there were some really clever ideas to go along with the aprons and cookbooks.
* Tasting tables -- we will go through the cookbooks and each pick a recipe to make for people to taste, and have copies of the recipes available to take.
* Demonstration of napkin folding.
* Demonstration of how to do a formal table setting.
* Bake sale.
* Display of antique kitchen utensils.
* Display of antique tablecloths.
* Someone's mom has a collection of salt & pepper shakers to display, and she might be willing to donate most for sale.
* I wondered if we could find a "kitchen band" to perform a couple songs. It's an old-fashioned and silly entertainment, but fun as long as it doesn't go on too long.

We're planning to charge $5 admission, with $1 off for anyone wearing an apron to the event. We've scheduled this for November 9th, with the idea that people will be starting to think of holiday meals.

We're a small group so we won't be able to do all of these ideas. However, we want to do enough to make it worth the admission price.

Hello, girls!

Today I met Dh for lunch (Chinese). Then I picked up a paint sample, which is going to work out great for the bedroom. Have sprayed a wasp nest for the second time. It's tricky to hang out the upstairs casement window and spray, then quickly roll the window back in before wasps attack! I think I got them this time.

Had a good idea today that has saved money. Was planning to buy some of those space bags to store 2 blankets, 2 bedspreads and a mattress pad. Then I realized that my plastic trash bags would work fine. Thanks to recent decluttering, the top shelf of guest room closet was empty, so all that fits up there. Just need it to stay clean until we finish freshening up the basement. Will use most of it down there.

Planning a weekend of yard work. Noticed 2 kittens out in the woods. They are welcome to all the mice they can catch! They probably belong to the neighbors.

Bookie, I've framed some lovely pictures from books that I got for one dollar each...mostly Mary C assatt and some Grandma Moses.
How you do your work is a portrait of yourself.
