Lucylee, is this the day Elvis died? If so, I was at a county fair. I think I remember it so well because a buzz started at the other end of the tent I was in -- kind of like the telephone game except no one was whispering. We just kept hearing different people who were walking through the tent say the following, over & over: "Elvis died". Then gasps. "No!" "What?" "Elvis died". A lot different than the way people would hear the news on twitter today ...

How was your visit to the school, Lucylee? I'm guessing it stirred up some emotions. (Hopefully happy ones that you are now retired ).

I ran errands today, & dh did a S am's run in the opposite direction. Very helpful as we were out of several things. I took advantage of a Kohl's sale plus a free $10.00 card & bought some new bras. At the register they rang up at a higher price than the flyer advertised. When I mentioned it to the cashier she said it was probably their early bird or night owl pricing, but that she would go ahead & adjust the price. That was nice of her .

I'm off to water before the mosquitos come out in force, then start dinner. We both ate after 3PM today (I got happily sidetracked browsing books at B & N & was ravenous when I got home). Chicken parm over linguine with fresh bread & a salad is on our menu tonight.

36 years ago, we had just bought our first home and moved. The 3 previous homes had been rentals. I was busy getting settled and looking forward to my dnephew's 1st birthday party, the next day when I heard the unbelievable news that Elvis had died.

I remember so well the minute I heard that he had died. I was sitting at my desk in the Parish office, the radio was on very low behind Father's desk and I heard the announcer say that Elvis was dead. I remember that I gasped loudly, Father looked up at me and I said "Elvis is dead". He looked at me like I had either lost my mind or had received a "message from on high". When I told him I remember his comment was that his Mom (in her 80's) was going to be so sad. I loved Elvis from the moment I heard him sing and she did too.

Happy birthday to Harriet's dd. fifteen.....wasn't she just 9???? What a wonderful young woman she is going into.

Lucylee... 36 yrs ago I had a very strange dream that Elvis had died. What stands out in my mind is dreaming how the world reacted to his death. The dream had such a strong image that I told my exdh abt it that morning. Imagine my reaction when I turned the tv on.

Years later I became very good friends with Elvis' head of security. I was never big fan so never ask my friend any questions abt Elvis. I was living in Memphis at the time and Elvis friend had started a huge fan club to honor Elivs. It really bugged him. One day at lunch Elvis friend got really exasperate with me... He put down his fork, leaned across his meal and said.......isn't there anything you want to know abt Elvis???

I looked back at him and said .... Well yes I do have one question... How come a smart man like you thought you could convince the world that Elvis died of a heart attack??? He thought abt it for a moment and answered......I had nothing to do with that decision. It was his stepfather who insisted on the story.

Hmm, 36 years ago I had a 7 1/2 year old and 3 year old. I don't think we were doing anything special then, but I do remember hearing of Elvis' death which was a surprise since he was so young.

Oh my, Nancy. Emptying a washing machine by hand is not fun! Lucky you could get another one!

((Dee)), hope things work out ok with dbro and dsisil. Did you say that your dsil had a job interview this week?? Hope it went well for him!

Not much new going on in my little corner of the world. It was cloudy here all day, no rain though. Dh went to the grocery store that has sales on meat buy 1 get 1 free (or 2 or 3 free). It's been a few months since we did this so time to stock up again. We saved about $78.-- today. I got my weekend cleaning mostly done this afternoon while dh was gone.

OKay, it is nice to hear LO had a good start to the new school year.

BookSaver, I like the programs your library has. They sound like a lot of fun for everyone!

Our day has been so busy that I haven't had a chance to get here until now. Immediately called dd to the computer and she was very grateful for all the good wishes. She says, yes, the day was a happy one. She had a close friend over and we had lunch together, decorated together some. We got crepe streamer thingies up, funny little hanging ditsies up, and the tablecloth nearly finished. I found a good solid base for the cupcake stand.

Agreeing with Sunny and Dove - I like those library ideas, BookSaver, especially the apron displays to call attention to cookbooks, smart. Reading through the ideas again, I like all of them, so smart, fun. Don't let crowds get too close to the shakers, there should be a rope or something.

I was working at a dept store and heard from a passing customer that Elvis had died. My boss disapproved of me when I gasped and repeated the words too loudly for her taste. I wonder if she admitted to herself in later years that it really was a profound moment that people would be talking about for years, remembering on anniversaries. Many of us working that day wondered if it was a hoax. Some simply wouldn't believe it.

Nancy's post reminds me I have a repairman coming tomorrow. Need to hit the hay.

Hmmm.... am I the young one here? 36 years ago, I had just turned 10 and was probably enjoying the last days of summer by hanging out as much as possible with my best friend who lived across the street from me. At that age I was unaware of much of that sort of music. I don't have any memory of that day.

I remember hearing that Elvis had died as I waited for my date to arrive. I was 19 years old and just weeks away from meeting my husband-to-be. DM was upset at the news. She loved Elvis and always claimed that my father was jealous of him!
