Remembering Indiana 8/21/12

Good morning!

Have had coffee with evaporated milk added as we are out of milk. Learned to keep a can of evaporated milk per Indiana. I remember being so sad when Hugh died, even though I had never yet posted here, but had "known" all of you for a long time.

Laundry is going. Bible reading done. Not sure what I will do today...could be paperwork or yardwork or painting. Feeling like I don't know where to start...

Lilac's comment about men and communication is well understood here. It's shocking sometimes when I think Dh is listening to me and then he will say something that makes me think we are not speaking the same language!

Just Ideal, ((Emptynester)). Well done. When you and dh visited with Indiana it was a happy day on the boards. We couldn't wait to hear from each of you afterward. We were hanging on every word, lol. How smart of you to make that happen.

It's Apron Day!

We're supposed to get up to 90F today with very high humidity. First thing this morning I went out to the car for the long extension cord that will let me set up a fan in the hall upstairs. Otherwise there is no air circulation in the little bathroom up there. So far we have avoided having to put the a/c unit in the bedroom window, and I'm sure DH will not want to mess with it if we can get by without it.

(The extension cord lives in the car because I use it a lot for sewing group activities.)

Sewing group board meeting went well last night. We have planned some fun programs for the next 5 monthly meetings for the members, a 4-day retreat at a camping lodge in mid-October, and a sew-in for Quilts of Valor late October.

I'm coming to the end of my last year as leader of the group, and have a lot of clean-up to do before I can hand over the files and archives at the end of December. Next year I'll be Treasurer, a much easier job. Mostly easier because I'll only be responsible for that 1 job!

Sometime today I need to design a "save the date" postcard for the Quilts of Valor event. We originally had it scheduled for mid-September and put that date in our newsletter. The next newsletter won't come out until after that September date. I have an Email group but the majority of our members do not have Email. I think a postcard mailed asap will be the easiest way to communicate the date change, and then we'll put more details in the newsletter that will be mailed the last week of September.

One pan full of dishes is washed and air drying in the rack. I've had a little breakfast and coffee, so now I'm awake enough to gather and sort laundry. After I get a load started in the washer, I can go upstairs and move things around to set up that extra fan.

Harriet, that avatar was such a welcome sight and so appropriate for today.

ellyphant, I know just what you are saying about feeling that you have "known" board members before posting. I felt the same way. I would even tell dh " one of my friends on the board did blah, blah, blah". He would then tell me, "you really need to register and join the group." It was a big day for me when I made that leap.

Yeah, BookSaver will be leaving her jack of all trades position in her sewing group and become the treasurer with a single job. Hopefully you will really be able to enjoy your sewing group.

The fence guys haven't shown up. I am assuming that they have moved onto the next job and are setting fence posts. While they are curing they will probably/hopefully come back here and make the 3 smaller gates.

Guess I better get a shower and look presentable. I had just thrown clothes on and could get by with it first thing, but by afternoon it would just look sloppy.

Gave myself a haircut. My hair is thick and short works best. That has put me in a good mood!

Swiffered the kitchen and made an egg custard pie. It smells great. Next up is folding laundry.

Yesterday I changed the dining area by removing a leaf from the table and turning the table a different direction. Added a tablecloth for fall. I know it's early for that, but fall is my favorite season and I'm getting ready for it!

Noticed I'm avoiding the three jobs I listed before...

I became a member right after Indiana's passing. I didn't know her, but have read some of her posts, and miss her from those. She sounded like a wonderful gal and I wish I'd been a member years earlier so I could have known here while she was still living. She'll go on living in our hearts. ♥

Today's Wed. and the boys get wood with DH and his bfriend on M-W-F, which is also laundry day. One grandsons' stay, I was doing laundry daily, I got worn to a frazzle and wasn't doing so hot by the time they left. I told their parents to pack plenty of clothes and how Gma is only going to do laundry M-W-F because she got too tired, achy, etc... It's worked out so beautifully, but I was the one who needed to speak up. Embarrassingly so, I have days where I don't speak up and then take the martyr roll or get aggravated at the least little thing (when it's just DH and me here). I'm slowly learning that being assertive doesn't make you into a grump or b---ch. If you know what I mean.

So laundry's on the schedule for today and I'm on my way to write out tomorrow's to do list early and also a list of reading to do. I'm behind on my "Writer's Digest" magazines, books, etc... It's hard to find time to read sometimes.

It's a beautiful day here, once again. Many fires are in our state, too. I hope they'll be able to get them under control soon. I think I'll go look at my morning card. I'm dressed, ate, etc.. and put in braid pigtails, but decided to pin them up like the Heidi look, I think it's called. At least it's off my shoulders and if it's Apron Day, maybe I should go grab a matching apron to motivate me.

It warms my heart to see our dear Indi remembered today. Thank you, MT. Sometimes it's hard to believe a whole year has gone by. I still miss her. She died less than 10 days after my ddad died; I remember how difficult it was dealing with both so close together.

I'm so glad to have known her through this board. Like others have mentioned, I sometimes go through old posts just to read hers. I remember how we used to say that when we saw her daily posts, all was right with the board. She will always be here in spirit and, as Ivy said, will live in our hearts.

Thanks for posting her file box avatar, Harriet. As I was cuop I was thinking how I missed seeing that here & then there it was .

It's a quiet day for me, nothing pressing on my PODA today. It is Zone 4 which for me is the office & dining room. The office needs much more attention than the dining room so I will focus my efforts in here. And in Indi's honor, today there will be puttering ♥.

Dove, thank you for mentioning puttering. We seen that almost daily in Indiana's posts. For someone born organized, she had a way of making us not feel like failures, when we couldn't begin to keep up with her. Such a special lady!

Every time I sit down, I doze off. At least I am showered but I need to accomplish something.
