Remembering Indiana 8/21/12

Back from rehab with dh and a bunch of quick errands -which we managed to do in order on the way back. Even used drive-thru for dh's prescription for antibiotic at W greens (he has dental work in the morning). Came home and got the AC going. He's gone to find a pipe for dcampowner and then says he's coming back for a nap. Rehab really takes a lot out of him. I'm not surprised he's not feeling great this afternoon. The humidity is rising as is the heat.

Stopped and got 6 ears of corn. Will do 2 for supper. Trying to decide whether to marinate the steak from the freezer & have that with an ear apiece for dinner. Have a refrigerated mashed potatoes in the fridge to go along with that. Was going to ask Ds-R, DDil#2 but I imagine they'll be working on dgs8's go-kart this evening & spend the night at home. Ds & DGS are leaving in the wee hours of Thursday I do believe -for Wampum, PA. DS-A and DGS13 will be going as well. He got back in a go-cart a few weeks ago and is loving it again. (He had been injured pretty badly a few years ago & was afraid to get back in. ) Of course Grandma is always nervous anyway so rarely go to watch.

Have a mystery on our hands. I cleaned the car yesterday while my laundry finished. On the floor next to where dgs8 sits all the time was a little change purse. It really blended in with the carpet. It's kind of a black velvet & had the words -Altec & Lansing on it. When I opened it, there was $60! We have asked everybody we can think of who might have been in our car since I came home mid-May. No one is claiming it. I still think it belongs to DGD18, but she says not. Of course we haven't said there was that much money in it. I'm sure that whomever it belongs to can certainly use that amount. If no one claims it in a couple of months, we'll give it to dgd18 for college.

Just finished putting the laundry away from yesterday.

Home again. We had a nice time kayaking on the river. There are some man made rapids near the livery where we started, and those were fun! It took us a little over an hour. Lunch at the cafe was nice too. We sat outside since most of us had wet short/bathing suits. Only dh had brought a change of dry clean clothes. We stopped by the country store and then the humane society - but the humane society was closed until 2 pm, so we went home. I think R was relieved. S loves animals!

Dh has gone in to work. I'm home with the kids, making a cup of tea for some afternoon mojo. I'm going to finish that 3rd short answer question (I'm writing them in MS Word and then copying them to the application), revamp my cover letter, and then send off the application.

I finally heard from the community college that I did not get that instructor position, which I had already figured out since they never called me for an interview. I think the 16 year hole in my resume is a significant problem. . . Still, I'm a little disappointed - but not too much so. The good news is we don't need for me to work; we don't need the very little money I could earn. However, I would like to become professionally active again. . . . I think the involvement in another institute + different intellectual stimulation would be good for me. If I don't land any job, that's OK too. Having some space in my schedule might be nice; I didn't "work" last year and felt plenty busy most of the time. I'm trusting God in all of this. We'll see what happens.

I miss Indiana too. Think of her often.

I've been on vacation too, or should say staycation as we are not going anywhere, just doing some local things and chilling out.

Have Dbrother's laundry in the dryer, need to fold and put it away.

Also finished the last Danielle Steel book in Dmom's collection. Moved on to a Lee Child's book. Still reading bits of the Mark Twain book too.

Happy to hear that LO gets to stay with you Okay. Hoping the baby Veronica case has a good ending. Seems there is a gag order in place, which I think is good. Too much media attention on this little girl.

got to go to WM to get milk and fruit. Even if I'm off, I just can't stay away from the place.

going to cuop and see what everyone's been up to lately.

I think I have things pulled together pretty much for board meeting. I am going to lie down until 4:15, then will s2s and head out. I am feeling exhausted.

Thank you Empty for remembering Indiana. I think of her every time I enter the village. She was such a special part of each of our lives. I always think of her as happy with her dear Hugh in heaven, looking down over us with a smile.

Last year we were supposed to stop but she said she didn't feel up to it and "would see you next year". That night she went in the hospital and next year never came for her.

Another thing I wanted to say in my first post was that Ken and Kathryn in Canada also helped a lot on our move. These two couples have been the leaders of this board.

We are traveling today and are about 1/2 the way to our new campsite.

I too miss Indiana and for awhile there thought I might get to really meet her. She picked up on a post that I did about our coming trip to Indianapolis. She wrote and said we should meet, although we were a good distance from each other we were figuring out how we would do that. And then she passed on and getting together never happened. I am sad that did not happen. On my kitchen counter is a recipe book like hers, except my is decorated with ivy. I still think of her when I pull that box out.

LO appt went well this morning. Counselor wants to meet with LO again in 2 weeks to make sure the anxiety is okay and then will press the pause button on meeting with him. I drove though What-a-burger and picked up lunch. LO ate it while I drove back to school.

The electronic drum set arrived Monday. There was at least a couple dozen pieces to be put together. It would probably take a knowledgeable person about 5 minutes. Not so for someone with my level of drum knowledge. I have been watching youtube videos how to set them up and the basics of playing.

We ended up passing on buying houseboat. We went to look at it again Saturday evening. It was not fun or calm environment to be with 3 little ones running around and able to fall into the 50' deep lake water. We could probably make it kid proof to ensure they wouldn't easily fall into water.....but that is just more work. We decided we work enough already and the thought of obtaining something else that would add more work for ourselves was not high on our list of things we want to do. We took the keys back to DFriend. He sold it to someone else immediately.

I appear to have 'crashed.' Got nothing done after getting home. I was hot and bothered and unloading the car was a lot of work and then I had to hang out laundry.

After that, I stopped doing anything so the last 2 hours are 'lost.'

Dh is home tonight. I'm exhausted again and am debating a really early bedtime even though I have a lot to do.

Doctor says the hepatitis should be over. He'll do one more blood work to make sure since my numbers went nuts during the gall bladder. There is a chance the hepatitis was caused by the gall bladder although the ultrasound at the time gave no indication of problems.

After the hospital, dh and I toured around the shopping mall (a big-box mall) near the apartment to get a sense of what was there. It isn't that great for shopping except for a large Walmart with lots of groceries and a local grocery store with limited selection but high quality and unique items, not the mass market Walmart stuff. They have a butcher so it might be our regular place. The mall is about 1.5 miles from end to end (and Walmart is at the end closest to our place) so it isn't convenient to use unless we are on bikes. Found a safer biking route back to the apartment complex and a slightly shorter walking route as well (it is about 1.5 miles to the Walmart from the property.) Transitway, train tracks and an ultra busy intersection are all on the way so it is not a great spot for walking.

From there we went to a grocery store in my childhood neighbourhood (which was closer than I thought) and had lunch out, ran more errands and came home.

I put away the groceries, hung out clothes and then ceased to be productive.

Must write and send the church newsletter today.

Dozed off at the keyboard and started falling forward. Woke up flailing my arms which I am sure bruises will appear on.

The guys are back and working on the gates. I had went out this morning and removed 2 landscape timbers so that they can swing the gate open and against the fence to attach whatever will hold it open in that position.

2 years ago I was planning to go to Chicago in May with dh for a conference. When I mentioned it here, Indiana contacted me and said she would try to arrange a meeting. Not too long after that she had an episode and ended up in the hospital. After that she told me that she wouldn't be able to do it but would try to when we came back in 2 years. We ended up not even going this year. When we lost her last year, I remember thinking that I would never have the pleasure of meeting her face to face. She was so caring to each of us and always had excellent suggestions or solutions.

Once I put this load of towels in the dryer, I guess I will go upstairs and read. It's too late to start anything and I need to be available for dd2. Dgd3 is getting some teeth filled at 4:30 and I might end up needing to pick up dgd2.
