Today I'm posting from my p/c I've been up an hour and a half now and have fed the chickens & let them out opened up the coop.
Got a new table cloth on the table.
Rebooted the dish washer, & worked on the kitchen.
spiffed the bed as well.

Finished my 3 things plus long phone call from DBrother. Also used the blower on 3 porches and the sidewalks around the house.

Today is DMIL birthday. We are having a family cook-out on Friday for her. DH and I are taking her out to eat at her favorite restaurant (Red Lobster) for lunch today.

Went for a walk, then found a new hiking trail so hiked it. Went up to the lodge to ask about more trails but we've found them all.

Ran into a lawyer we know from home. His wife's family have been coming here almost as long as my family. Her mother books the 8 room annex for the family but the extended generations are making it a tight fit for them.

When buying food yesterday, dh said we'd have lunch at the lodge today so I didn't have food now that eating here isn't as nice (the noise makes it seem like an IKEA cafeteria.) I pointed out I didn't want to leave for lunch so we ate on the deck even though it is foggy and a bit cool.

Dh's burger and my pecan encrusted chicken on a bed of greens took forever to arrive. The chicken was inedible (and almost needed a steak knife to cut.) It was white meat but very rubbery too so I skipped eating it and just had the greens. The server brought me peanut butter and bread to fill me up since I told her I didn't want to wait another 30 minutes and everything on the menu was fried or deep fried or based on cheese so there wasn't anything I could eat. (I can eat deep fried in moderation but had my helping of that for the next few meals last night.) I will say the bread was amazing, fresh-baked and sweetened with molasses so tasted wonderful and salvaged the meal a bit.

I wasn't charged for the meal and filled in a comment card. If there was any question about eating here tonight, that's been settled. As a child, we had to dress for dinner here. As an adult, we weren't out of place dressing for dinner (and I mean nice shirt and pants for dh, dress and sandals for me, not formal) but the new dining room is very casual, no table cloths, and very noisy so dressing will seem out of place. As a result, we'll go into the only decent restaurant in town, coincidentally, located in my 5-great Grandfather's home.

I'm going to rest for a bit now. Then maybe work on Sunday's service.

- s/s main bathroom. We may have a good group over tomorrow for Th. dinner, not sure. And some may be new to our house. Dphysics prof dh has finally moved here permanently!! They will both be here tomorrow night. I think he's not thrilled about being here, except for the fact he'll now be with his wife. SE Michigan can't compare to Berkeley or Italy, where he's from. . .We try! It's hard to fake mountains and ocean beaches and mild winters here, though.

At 2 pm, I need to leave to take dd15's sleepover friend home. then, I'm tutoring at 3, jogging around 5, making dinner - and then getting into my evening activities, which will involve making sure everything is ready for tomorrow's meeting.

I'm getting so exasperated with this internet connection on this site!!

Happy Birthday triplets, Harmony, LucyLee, Sherinjoy! How nice to be able to share a birthday in our village.

Took dh to rehab this morning. Again, he had issues. Strange but he says things start turning "White" (not black). Happened at least twice today. We then went downstairs for his chest x-ray (really for his pulmonology appointment next Thursday but was wondering if his cardiologist might get it in time for tomorrow's appointment. As it turned out, secretary asked for his other Dr’s (his cardiologist & GP) and results will be faxed to them as well. So hoping that cardiologist has it by tomorrow. If there’s nothing showing, so be it, but at least we’ll know if it DOES show something. They will get his last x-ray from the hospital (June 18th) to compare. Think this is a good thing.
Tried a few times to call dh’s dbil/dsil yesterday (she told me they were leaving FL TODAY). DD told me last night that dsisil told her on Sunday that they were leaving on Tuesday morning. So I’m supposing that will get them here about Friday instead of Saturday. Was planning Sat, since DS-A and family will be away until Monday. Of course they don’t know (and neither do I…shhhh…..) that dbil is giving each of our DK’s $2,000 and DShelley’s two dk’s a $1,000 each). I haven’t even invited dgd18 & dgs20 over since I haven’t been “told” dbil wants to see them. May ask ddil #1 tonight if it’s ok to invite them for dinner on Saturday. Oh the webs! (This money all comes from dbil selling late dmil’s home to dsisil’s nephew).
Trying to get our RV in relatively good condition before this weekend, but not going overboard. Just finished the dishes and cleaning the fridge. Now am resting my back. It’s in bad shape by the time I do even a few dishes!

I slept in a little this morning so got a later start to my day than I wanted. I like today's theme (Thank you Harriet, love those graphics) because I think it can be adapted to many uses such as .....doing three things per hour, three things per morning/afternoon, three things a day or even per week.... depending upon the length or time or nature of the job. Hmm, I'll have to think about this some more!

Moving a little slowly today due to stuffy sinuses and slight headache; Morning routine, lol, lunch done. I'm taking a break to sit for a while to check in here and email, etc. Next three will probably be to take care of a couple of hot spots, write a note, a little paper taming.

Kathryn, hope you are enjoying your vacation in spite of the food. Is this the same place that burned some time ago?

Still remembering those of us who are recovering from health issues!

This summer I've been reading a lot of teardrop camper forums and blogs, trying to decide if we would be able to camp more if we used a little trailer instead of hauling the tents and gear in our 2 compact cars.

Today I found a blog that includes 2 terrific videos that preserved a family's 5 summer camping vacations from 1957 to 1961. The videos average an hour each so I've had to watch them in segments during breaks from chores, but I'm really enjoying them. The narrator gives a wonderful mini-history lesson of the United States while showing the family visiting all 48 of the continental states.
[Editing to correct that to contiguous states. Alaska is on the same continent, of course, but it was not yet a state when they made their original plan in 1957.]

The historical sites and national parks look wonderful.

The films are also fun because of the fashions of the late 1950s. OK, maybe they only filmed at the beginning of each day when everyone's clothes were still clean and relatively unwrinkled, but they all look so neat and tailored. Shirts tucked in. Lots of times the mom and daughter are wearing dresses or skirts -- on a camping trip! Looks like they all made an effort to dress up when they visited a public tourist site.

Dee, we appreciate the time you take to let us know about Mr. DeeClutter's appts, right though the technical troubles you're having now.

Kathryn, I was going to say the same thing Sunny said, except "In spite of the noise". I've noticed you mention noise levels several times and am wondering if that is a big disappointment.

I called this a.m. about setting up annual gyn appt and caught the receptionist trying to fill an 11:00 cancellation. She asked if I didn't want it since there was no time for any better choices from her end. I decided why not rearrange my schedule to take advantage (after all, I was here alone and only had to leave HRH a message, send dd an email). I made it there with 15 minutes to spare, plenty to fill out the form. So that's one proactive medical task out of the way for the year. Probably even a gratitude on my part that I had virtually zero time to think about it in advance.

Dd33 emailed and says next weekend is the likely time for a visit from them, not this one. That's fine - I think both our families are reeling from the many responsibilities of school-year start-up.

Yes, Sunny, this is the place that burned. The rebuilt lodge has noise issues. They opted to go for cathedral ceilings. But combined with concrete floors and furniture that all reflects the sound, and creating basically only two public spaces - the dining hall (it ain't a room so I won't call it that) and a "great room" with reception/lounge/lobby, they have created two echo chambers.

Normally, this wouldn't matter except for eating (the cabins don't have kitchenettes) but we are in a motel room unit instead of a cabin so have no fireplace, no view of the ocean and nothing comfortable to sit on. Even when we had a cabin, we'd often hang out all afternoon in the lodge before because it was so comfortable and interesting (striking up conversations with people.)

So, is my vacation ruined? Nope - it is 2 days here and we can enjoy walking and listening to the ocean from the balcony. I napped out there when the sun came out so it isn't awful here in the motel room, in fact it isn't bad value.

My backup plan of eating on the deck instead of inside the echo-chamber didn't work because the food was so terrible. And that isn't a function of the space. They've been reopened for 9 months so any kinks in the kitchen should be long worked out.

I'm fearing the long closure (it was a year) lost them the best of their workers and they are struggling. I hate being in the echo-chamber and can't imagine what it must be like to work there. It is simply never quiet (a task like setting out cutlery is noisy and makes casual conversation with co-workers impossible.) I have to talk directly to dh from a distance of under 3' for him to hear me. Add in that any guest who has experience with the old lodge is likely unhappy and it makes for a depressing work place.

I will be back next year because we have it booked and it will be right after ds returns from Australia so we'll need family time. I have not yet booked 2015 and am considering not doing so. Our old 2-bedroom cottage has been converted to a one bedroom and a full kitchen installed (and bbq on the new private deck overlooking the lake.) It is tempting to book that for 2013 and then stuff the kids into whatever other place is available once we know who is coming. The bad food and loud dining hall then becomes no issue, everyone can gather in my cabin and we can cook our own meals.
