Happy birthday, Nancy!

I'm ready to get to work I guess. I realized I "should" go see dmom today and I'm pondering whether I'l do that. This is a busy week with Rosh Hashanah on Thursday and a full day before RH on Wednesday.

While on the trip the emissions control malfunction light came on - on the way down there and again on the way home. And it went off after a couple of days while we were there, before we could go to the Honda dealership. The light actually came on once before on a trip to Hilton Head at least a year ago, then went out after a couple of days and didn't come back on until now. So I'm debating about getting it to the dealer tomorrow since that would be the best day if I need to. Next Monday or Wednesday I'l go see dsis again so I want to deal with any stuff before then. OTOH, reading online indicates that a loose gas cap can cause this and I wonder if dh has been tightening the gas cap all the way?

-unpack and sort dirty laundry
-start a lol
-go upstairs and measure knee wall for IKEA bookcase

Done with that round. Will do a few things to take up the next 20 minutes, then head out to dmom's. Driving there will give me a chance to see if the emissions control light stays on.

-reboot laundry (when current load is done in washer)
-make the bed
-start unpacking stuff that dh brought in and left in the floor (from trip, and from pool party last night.)
-do some breakfast bar decluttering

I'll stop at grocery on the way home from there.

I've been to work and I'm now done for the day. We are expecting dd to show up to drop off her car. I don't know if she'll need a ride to Toronto or not.

We are still in smoke but not nearly as bad as it was. We need a good rain but not too much hope in that happening. Even if it does, it simply piddles.

I have just finished reading the most wonderful series of books. It is the Exit Unicorn series by Cindy Brandner. If you are Irish - or not - you must read her books. The history of Ireland back to the beginning is wonderfully woven in these novels. She is the Irish Diana Gabaldon. I am in touch with her - she lives in Quesnel, B.C. and find her to be a fascinating person. The fourth book will come out in 2015, a long ways away, but like Diana she researches thoroughly and takes her time. Each book is around 700 pages (I have them on my Kindle) and when you start you will not want to put it down.

I am so into reading right now I can't get anything else done. When I finished her third book I immediately went to "Waging Heavy Peace" by Neil Young. If you are, or ever have been a fan of this very talented man, you will find this very interesting. Neil lives in the Bay Area on his ranch, is now 66 years old, and still doing interesting things. I never realized he was so talented. He is a big San Jose Sharks fan and when he is at a game the camera seeks him out. One of the announcers always says "And there he is - the great Neil Young!" (And he is still a Canadian, although lived here for many many years.)

What are you all reading now? I am always keeping my eye open.

Hmm... moving slowly still. Took care of some quick emails. I'm finishing up the groc. list and will be out the door soon. a.m routine is mostly done. Girls have gone shopping for a few school supplies -- they can't really buy fully until they go to class and learn what is needed -- and have returned.

Me too!! -- I just finished reading My Name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok (Jewish writer) for the 2nd time. I really need to finish its sequel, one of many books I started but didn't quite finish. He is a great writer! I m trying to finish The Woman Upstairs, which is a book club book. Imho, it is OK, not my favorite but not the worst book out there either. I need to finish up some non-fictional reading for Moms group, and I have some classics I've wanted to finish reading for several years, including Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov, Hugo's Les Miserables, and Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo. .I've started all but not finished. I've gotten over halfway w/ Dostoevsky. And I want to read Oscar Wilde's A Picture of Dorian Gray -- that was on my want to read list from a couple summers ago. Still haven't done it. These are all kind of heavy books, so I rely on my book club books to be my more light reads!! Maybe i can make progress reading this fall.

Shed was emptied (except for the pile of wood bits and pieces) and the stuff we are keeping (for now) put back in, and the stuff we are taking moved to the garage. Found a snowboard in a cloth case that I didn't know we had. Will ask ds about that. There were three mammal nests in the case (one on the outside, under the flap, one inside a chewed hole through the case and the third where you put you foot.)

The shed had the eavestrophe leaf catchers so dh installed those and dealt with the vine that is growing in the wrong places (as well as the right ones.) Those are all zone chores so I can cross those off for the day.

The basement is untouched. I'm just making myself lunch now and will get to it in a moment. I must wake ds in 8 minutes if I don't hear him up.

I have the 2nd load of laundry in the dryer. Bandaged a cut for HRH. Helped HRH look for tools a friend wants to borrow. We have two sets of drill bits and two types of saws set out to choose from this evening. Next up will be remaking our bed.

Well I certainly need to explore more on this site! I didn't know about the books reading area, but I sure do now I get stalled just reading the everyday posts I don't get further.

Helia, I had all of Chaim Potok's books at one time. I especially loved Rueven and Danny. I think I will be doing those over again - only on my Kindle.
