Oooh speaking of scams, I actually got a fax from 'Nigeria' the other day offering me a cut of a large bank account if I would just help this widow of an unjustly accused and executed government official! It was refreshing to get a low-tech version of that one - haven't had a real letter in the mail from that scam for several years now.
Dh and I went out to dinner. Wasted the rest of the evening. But every time we come back in the house, I bring in a box off the table in the garage so we should have that emptied off soon.
Ds is at work. Surprisingly. He forgot about the shift and apparently only clued in (or maybe even woke up since he was asleep when we left at 1:20) when work called. That's what happens when you work 4 shifts over 3 days.

Re: Monday Musings
Dh has already called. They have eaten supper and are back at the campground for the night. He said the Dragon Tail was nothing but switchback curves and he was glad when they reached the end. They had thought that they would return to the campground that way, but they all decided they would rather go a different route and avoid it. Tomorrow 3 will head west and 7 will continue the adventure, heading to Myrtle Beach.
I need to get the lead out of my backside and get to cleaning. Dh's youngest sister is widowed. In December it will be 6 years. She has lived with her daughter, dsil and 2 granddaughters ever since. Her daughter is a nurse in a drs office. Dsisil is not much of a cook, but does all the dishes, laundry, keeps the house picked up, some cleaning and takes the girls to and from school. Her dsil is between jobs right now, so he doing some work to the house. Since he can take the girls to and from school, she wanted to get away and come out here. They live 3 hours from here, so Thursday afternoon I will meet them half way. Dh knew she wanted to come but when I told him she was coming, his 1st ? was how long is she staying? I didn't ask, but I am assuming it will be 2 weeks or so. That is why I am trying to get the Raggedy Ann room deep cleaned because I am putting her in there.
Before this came up, dm and her 2 sisters were going to stop here on their way to Las Vegas to celebrate my dcousin's 50th birthday. I invited them to stay here instead of them getting a room, since it is just 1 night. They will be coming the 22nd, which is also dgd3's birthday. Dd2 said she will keep dm coming a secret from dgd3 because she always talks and asks about grandma C_____. So that night the inn will be full. I will put my daunts in the basement guest room that has a queen size bed. I was going to move dsisil to the sofa for the night but dm told me she can sleep on the floor, sofa or wherever. Dh won't be real crazy about a full house, but he can handle it for 1 night.
Dsisil is a real homebody, so I have decided she can go anywhere with me she wants or stay home and relax.
I did tell dd2 tonight that this Saturday night I would be willing for dsisil and I to stay overnight at her house with the 2 little girls and dgd17, so that her and her dh can go on an overnight trip to the next town. She was very excited at the prospect. I had planned to do that before I knew dsisil was coming. Dd2 and her dh really need some alone time. I need to do this more often for them.
Guess I better hit it. I have decided that tonight and tomorrow, I will work on the Raggedy Ann room. What doesn't get done, won't get done, because I will need to clean house on Wednesday.

Last time I got scammed was via an email. . .
Phone call from dfriend. Also, emails re: moms group. I am so tired. I really should go to the gym. I can walk there now.

Re: Monday Musings
My dm was recently hit with a scam that she didn't fall for. She received a call that someone had paid for her to have a First Alert type thing. They just needed her credit card # to pay for postage. Uh mmm, no! Then she called to see if it was me who thought she needed it. I told her it sounded like a scam and if I thought she needed one, I would talk it over with her first. Later that day, there was an article in her paper about this and it was a scam.
As far as phone calls, when dstepdad first retired, while dm was working he would buy anything and everything. Finally she told him to tell any callers that he wasn't authorized to buy anything. He started saying that and eventually the calls slowed down.

Re: Monday Musings
We have a no-call list in our state, which has really helped cut down on the telemarketers. You pay a minimal fee, like $5 (maybe more now), and you're put on the list. If we encounter someone selling something we don't want, we just ask to be taken off their list. That has always worked for us.

We are on no call list, but still get calls.
Our highs are to be in the 80's later in the week.
I need to get out there and spray our lawn again. The bind weed is coming back.

Re: Monday Musings
Kathryn, I've never heard of a phone survey quickly turning into an obscene phone call.
It's nice to know now!
I cannot stand telemarketers. We keep getting hit up for a police guild to donate to and they're located about 3 counties away, so why would THEY be soliciting in OUR county?
The ones that were "getting" to me were the ones where you answer, then the recorded message says something to the effect, "We have VERY IMPORTANT news to inform you about your credit card!" It went on for about 6 MONTHS. I'm glad that's over. But it's always onto somebody new, isn't it?
The ones that "get" me are the ones calling on a busy morning during breakfast and meds, shower, etc.. OR at dinnertime! Or when you're napping in the afternoon. NO time is a good time, where I can see. They're annoying. I realize they have to make a living, too, to put food on the table, but if I'm ON the National Don't Call List, then why are they calling me?
Then, there is spam, too. What about pop-ups? It's everywhere. Junk snail mail, too. I can't think of any other places. I wish they could all be outlawed.
DW is running, DH is watching silent films, so the music is soothing. Am winding down for the night. Getting tired. The day went by so fast. Does this mean I'm getting "old" or "older" or I'm busier?
Oh, well. At least the time isn't passing by at a snail's pace, which is really good!
When DH took recycle out, a large owl flew off. Kind of neat. Also, DH said he saw a squirrel lying on his belly on our patio in the hot sun, spread eagled sunbathing; all 4 limbs out in different directions. Animals sure do comical things.
Have a Good Night, Everyone!
It's Terrific Tuesday tomorrow! At least I can TRY to make it TERRIFIC!

Re: Monday Musings
Remember -- this is dMIL -- so I am sorta the "extra" person around here in dealing with her. SHE made the call to the cable company to change the bill to HER name, rather than late dfil's. I think she would be much more suspicious if someone called her. She was just talking about how she keeps getting calls wanting her to buy an alarm system. She doesn't give them much satisfaction.
However, I am concerned. There is no telling what kind of mess she could get herself into... but our hands are just kinda tied. I mean, y'all have not seen "independent" until you have seen her. Oh my... I mean, we would just have to move in with her 24/7 to put a stop to anything like this happening.
* sigh *
I hang up on all telemarketers, etc. also. Rarely answer the phone if I do not recognize the number on caller id. And yes, we have signed up w/no call list before also. Still get calls.
So glad to hear Mr. Lilac's trip is going well... and boy... sounds like a busy time ahead for the Lilacs...
We had an emergency bath/diaper change here... oh my... SUCH a mess... but dgs LOVED the bath.
I need to get sheets back on our bed and play with him a little more before I put him down for bed.
Hope everyone has a good night!
