Monday at the Manor

It's the beginning of the week and the Manor gears up for activity.

The carriages are ready, the servants await their orders, little lords and ladies of the Manor require a bit of authority.

Time for us to arise and take over our important responsibilities, managing our Stately Homes.

Looked at tvs - mine is defunct. It used respond to a clip around the switch but no more. I can see a trip to neighbouring town to get one. Wondering if it is worth the expense of repair.
Got the Maidservant to take out the recycling bin, and boxes lined up at the door disappeared as well.

My servants and I are busy this morning. It is a win-win situations. They keep me on track and I give them something to do.

** Out the door in 45 minutes

I am going to visit dsis today and will stop off in ATL to get meds to ds at GT. I need to get rolling....

-breakfast
-meds/vitamins
-dressed, clean face, brush teeth et al
-walk ddogs
-make the bed

That's probably the bare minimum to get out of the house this morning.

Ah, wishing I did live on a manor with a crew of servants today. This is very much a Monday.

OMM. . . . Dd15 was sobbing in bed last night. That kind of got me, and I didn't sleep well last night. She is not a crying sort of person, she's not a very emotionally effusive person, actually. . . . I think she will talk to the teacher during her lunch hour today and look at her quizzes. Unfortunately, he is one of the weaker teachers she got. I just hope he will be kind and helpful to her. We can always switch her to a different class.

Feeling sort of gloomy. Weather is gray and damp but still warm! Dh is going for a jog. I am not going to join him. There are other things I'd like to get done. I have responded to a couple emails.

I need to get the maids and cook staff working:
- laundry needs to be done
- the market must be visited to restock the cupboards
- some paperwork must be done by the lady of the house - registration for Hebrew class and finish making tags for band uniforms
- 1 pm: I am meeting a friend for coffee. I don't see this friend regularly; her dd17 and my dd17 were friends in elementary and middle school. Her dd17 went to a different high school. The middle school splits into 2 high schools, unfortunately. .
- 5:05: first Hebrew class
- dd15 to drumline rehearsal 7 - 9

((helia's dd)) I know, I know. Also ((helia)). Check the teacher's handout from the first of the year about the class, because sometimes there are extra credit possibilities. If there are none given, ask to make sure. Last year, dd earned an extra credit grade with those giant chalk math symbols she drew on the school quad sidewalks to get attention for the math classes. Kinda odd, but her algebra II teacher had a vision of it as a project, it took hours, and he considered it extra credit. Otherwise, this is an opportunity for your dd to learn to be gentle with herself.

(Just editing to say I made this sound like it was a math helia had been talking about and it was advanced placement history. It's my dd who grasps at straws for maths!)

Lilac, what do you hear from your db and dsisil today? I know there is frustration for them, since a family member questioned in advance about the infection and it still happened.

The washing machine has been an excellent servant of the Manor today. Two loads are through.

Between that and posting in Cardfile Central, I was reminded to go ahead and print/make my next quarter's laundry cards (Oct, Nov, Dec), so they are in the box ready for my handy-dandy red Sharpie fineline. I print a Word (well, Open Office) file page for them, cut out and tape around the edges to a 3x5.

There was a twinge of sadness, as this is the first quarter in which I edited out my ddad's 3 usual washes, which rotated with ours for more than 2 years.

Desk Day for my ddad's household/estate done today. 2 bills ready for the mail and a phone call coming up later in the day.

Today I had to turn off the news it was just stressing me out. Helia I had a student that was a whiz in algebra class that explained it patiently and I got an acceptable grade by the end of the year that yr.

Lucylee Just to let you know, visiting Australia a big deal so I can't just throw in an extra flight unless there is a HUGE emergency. It takes over 2 days to get there and although technically I leave and return on the same day, it is over 28 hours of travel time (not including waiting time at airports before or after) so basically, I'm allowing 4 days just for the travel alone. Going for a week isn't going to cut it so I need to allow at least 10 days. On top of that, due to my back and knees, I can't be in economy for the hours on the plane since that is 23 hours in a chair, including 14 hours at one time for the longest segment. Thus I have to fly Air New Zealand who has a premium economy with more leg room but only a sitting up seat, or business class (which is on sale right now), where I can lie down flat to sleep. That makes the return airfare for us at least $11,500, twice what it would be if we were in economy but even $5K to go see ds because I miss him so terribly just isn't going to happen.

More importantly, now that dh has cancelled the trip to New Zealand, he has taken on three new project (including one for NZ government that is done here) so he doesn't have 2 days let alone 10 between now and Jan 4 (the day we fly to LA for the cruise to Australia.)

So visiting ds between now and then is out. Getting to see dd can be done for as little as $600 but when she first moved out we still have frequent flier miles to use up so our tickets were a lot less. I can manage 4 - 5 hours sitting in Economy but only if that is the extent of the trip, not just a segment of a 28 hour trip.

Harriet, so far everything with dsisil is status quo. I had to call dh's dsis who is a close friend of my dbs dw and tell her what is going on. Dh's dsis is the one who has had cancer twice, a horrible long lasting bout with the shingles and recently was hospitalized with sepsis. Her health is so precarious and I hated to tell her what was going on. She has always been amazingly strong but as her health has failed, she takes everything really hard.

Guess I better get a shower and head out on my errands.
