Tuesday Talks

Post by OKay »

There are 14 days remaining until the end of the year.

What kind of "talks" go through your mind as we get closer to the end of this year?

Have you set goals for next month....next year?

I am so thankful for this village. You are HUGE in my effort to keep thoughts in the right direction and not go off on a tangent with worry. Being able to "talk" things out here is very helpful.

I have been focusing on this week, this month and haven't given a thought to next month & year. It's time for me to step back and look at a bigger picture.

Good morning OK! I love your self-talk quotes this morning!

I need to throw on clothes and brush teeth and get to the TMJ dentist in less than 30 minutes. When I get back I'll hit the a.m. routine and paperwork and phone calls I need to do.

I'm planning to continue and build on my successes of yesterday! (Self talk example here!)

I like the quotes too, Okay. Talking to myself to really get moving today. Yesterday I spent a lot of time in our room, rearranging, cleaning and organizing. Still need to do some of that but have a whole lot more to do today. I have categorized l&&ts of things that need doing in the next couple of weeks, but have found I'm almost totally oblivious to how close everything is. SO!!! Am going to take each l&&t and print it out on its own sheet of paper & lay them out each morning (with a sheet for the date!!) Haven't even started my Christmas cards/letter as yet.

Dh went for his walk and was taking our car to the mechanic from there. Needs new shocks (was going to put on struts as well, but decided we didn't really have to) and a new EGR valve. We just replaced that valve about 2 or 3 years ago. Found the bill, but unfortunately it doesn't have a date on it. Note to self: make sure to put a date on things like that when there isn't one.

Bed is made and meds done, but that's as far as I have gotten so far.

Turned our electric fireplace on this morning -only 42 out here -that's cold compared to what it's been lately. Certainly not so by northern standards I realize.

Off to start doing things on the computer and see how far I get today. Maybe I'll do a chart of things I've done to encourage myself to keep going.

I've really had to work on the self talk lately. Yes to being supportive instead of being self critical/ judgemental at my questionable thoughts.

Today
Lights out was daylight.
neighbour called in re mowing. I needed clothes on to Pu dog running leads. and sticks etc. I have some mangos this year. the dry weather was good for something.
physio reception called - hes a new dad so canc.
caught up w dd1 on mobile. her ph is faulty. She reccons dgd has chicken pox for the 4th time. Christmas may be "odd" depending on progress, and dd2's 2 dds.
napped
pulled some weeds
noticed my propped up down pipe was not on as I do it so climbed a ladder. cleaned that corner of the gutter. had to use my feet/leg muscles to open the ladder to its extension for other down pipe. And to close the latches was difficult. It was totally clogged. I made a wire doobie to try and get around the corner but was unsteady climbing up again so left it for another day.
walked dog
dinner and dishes done.
up late again. If I go now maybe I can try for lights out and into bed by midnight.

waving to all
Just begin.
Living this day, today
Take a reality check; Remember to breathe; Do what I am able to do.
Look for the good in all.

Good morning! Thanks for the start, OK. Great quotes on self-talk!

I've been up for almost an hour and haven't done much other than get distracted by this machine. I have had my first mug o' tea.

Concert last night was amazing, as usual. Dd15 did say it was riddled with errors, including one big one by the director, but I couldn't really tell. . . .Kids looked sharp in their concert wear, I must say! ;) Symphony (highest) band played 3 pieces, the 2nd of which was a concertino to feature the principal flute, who is an amazing musician, winner of national awards, most recently the American Protege Flute Competition. She will get to play Carnegie Hall in April. She wore a beautiful red evening gown in contrast with the black and white of the rest of the band. She is Asian (Chinese/Taiwanese I'd guess from her name) and beautiful! Dd15 says she is really a nice person too, not at all arrogant or prideful. She studies with a (the?) flute professor at the big Univ. here, so she is receiving top notch training; a high school student must by unusual for a music professor to take on him/her. The bands have 11 members who made it to All State bands and orchestras, four of them made first chairs - flute (not surprising), piccolo (2nd flute, one of S' flute students!), clarinet, and trombone.

Dd18 learned yesterday that she did not get into the Ivy League school she applied to. She was disappointed, but not greatly so, thank goodness. She wasn't sure she'd go if she did get in. I don't think it would have been a good fit for her, so my disappointment is actually very minimal. And I thought her chances of getting in were very slim anyway, though she meets the criteria in many ways. One of her hs friends did get in! Another is deferred at MIT; I'm really surprised she didn't get in straight. High school stuff. The kids (at least my kids' high school friends) are amazingly supportive of each other, which is so good to see. If dd18 gets into the big Univ. here, that might be it for her applications. We'll see. I kind of expect her to get in, but it is always good to know for sure. . .

I made a schedule for myself last night. I might post here - or I might not. It helps me a lot, but I seem to generally be more optimistic than real.

Next:
- start the crockpot
- a.m. routine

a new day... so exciting. I am just trying to organize it so I am busy at d mil
have a great day.

so happy your dd is not too disappointed. I know she wanted it but it means something much better for her is coming. - My d dad didn't get into the ivy league school but was invited years later (at his retirement) to teach at MIT -(he never would have met my mom or any of his dearest friends if he hadn't gone to his state school. I told dd it was fine - that getting into an ivy league is great and we should be happy for our friends and classmates but that doesn't mean she will not be successful and happy in life. yesterday each class time - at dd youngers school announced the acceptances to ivy league schools and had kids stand up and cheer for the kids that got in. She was ok but all I could think of is the pressure. We never knew where our other classmates went (unless we talked about it)... dd's school has the kids wear the sweatshirts to where they will be going.. wow the pressure.
it is always a joy to be here with you!

Making my 'accountable' l**t here so I can 'publicly' cross it off. Might keep me on task. Just called dsisil to tell her we would not be coming over there today. Car is in the shop and I really need to get on the stick here. Did get a lot done in our bedroom yesterday. Hope to continue that vein in there and in the office today. Would like to be able to bring our dPastor and his dwife in to show them where we live -they're coming for lunch on Sunday. It's right on their way home. They've been driving within 1/2 block of here and neither of us ever realized it. They live quite a ways from church so he tries to limit his trips back and forth. He was our interim pastor and when the pastor we had 'called' and he accepted that call, decided not to come after all, this very much loved pastor submitted a proposal as 'part-time'. It's working very well.

1) s2s, meds, breakfast, bed made
2) print out Christmas card addresses
3) print out l**ts of to-do's

4) write out newsletter
5) print newsletter

helia, selfishly (amusing word to use here), I didn't want your dd traveling so far away from home for school! I hope she has lots of affirming news from applications in the next while.

blessed, that just sounds over-the-top for pressure for students in that high school. :P raspberries to that. There are calm and poised ways to quietly congratulate.

Twins' Mom, how 8-) that you like your new glasses so much. I was surprised to hear the cashier didn't catch on when you said you didn't celebrate. You'd think that wouldn't be much of a confusion. Nice that you were able to buy for the pet shelter as you bought for Moe.

Speaking of pet-need shopping, the Green-ies pill pockets for cats that salesperson at PetSmart talked me into (rather than purchasing the dog ones as vet suggested, and molding as much as needed) are no where near as easy to use, so I'll never buy those again.

Our lighting experiment results
The 4 low-blue spectrum (orange colored opaque) lights in the house have burned out at about the same time, so getting nearly 4 months of continuous use out of them. (The 3 nightlight bulbs for bathrooms and hall are 29 cent bulbs. The $2.00 bulb for dd's room lamp burned out at the same time but it is switched on and off a lot, which may mean harder wear, not sure. At these prices, even if I pay shipping, I will certainly not complain. But I realize bulbs that are from companies who specifically make them to emit zero low-blue-light spectrum are probably better.) Dd15 says she immediately noticed sleeping changes when she put a regular full-spectrum bulb in the lamp for a few nights as an experiment. She switched to a new opaque orange bulb 2 days ago and she told me this morning there's just no doubt she sleeps better. I mentioned it because she seemed well-rested this a.m. and she realized that she did. She uses the lamp for room lighting as much as she can late evening and somewhat in early morning before leaving her room. She can do most things in that much light without a problem. Of course she needs to cut off computer screens during that time, too, or the effect would be cancelled out. The hall night light glow is very visible from her room, too. In theory, if any of us get up in the night to go to the bathroom, we only encounter low-blue light.
