Thoroughness Thursday

Post by Kathryn-in-Canada »

I hope you thoroughly enjoy today!

Be thorough in all you do, try and take time to tie up loose ends so they don't come back to haunt you and distract you as we get closer to deadlines.

For me: my eye was sore, wanted to go to bed so left all the non-perishable shopping out on the counter and the hand-wash dishes from yesterday undone. This morning, my eye is worse (I'm wearing an eye patch to rest it) and my kitchen is a disaster so now I'm trying to tidy while dealing with limited vision.

Had I been thorough yesterday, this morning would go more smoothly.

Slept really well (no surprise, dh is away.)

Made the wrong choice last night and didn't medicate the eye. I should have and am paying the price this morning (I thought just lubrication would settle it.) Need to see if the eye doctor is taking appointments tomorrow. (Just called, left message.) I'm out of my milder med and so only have the heavy duty, "must be followed by a doctor while using it", drops. They often work after just one application but this time it is obvious that won't be the case, so I need a new script of the milder drops and to have my eye pressure taken.

Thankfully, the pain didn't upset my sleep at all, it is at dull ache now, but was fine until 5 a.m. and fine after I put in more lubricating drops then (and missed another chance to properly medicate.)

Today is church office. Four services to print off. I think my two are ready to print except for eagle eye proof-reading. I also have to write some more contributions for the annual report. We'll be there all day so I'm taking the secretary (and possibly the supply minister if she has time in her day) out for lunch.

This evening is a neighbourhood open house. And then drive to the airport to pick up dh unless he's coming in soon. If the eye doesn't settle down, I won't be able to drive at night so dh will come home by taxi. (It just costs $80 to get here from there so it is worth it for me to drive the 25 minutes.)

Snow tonight overnight and then snow storm tomorrow so flights are already being diverted in preparation. Dh knows this and will get to the airport as soon as he can (his meeting started 90 minutes ago) and see if Air Canada will switch him to an earlier set of flights home (there's nothing direct) in order to free up his seat on tonight's plane for someone who was to have traveled tomorrow.

Good morning, villagers ~

(Kathryn) I hope the doctor can see you right away.

*****
We are getting the freezing rain forecast today. They are saying that freezing drizzle is possible this afternoon, but the real advisory starts at 6 PM and goes through the night with both freezing rain and snow. Then more snow through the weekend.

I'm assuming that tonight's library meeting will be rescheduled. In any case, I'm not leaving the house after 6.

I had planned to run errands in The Big City this afternoon, including buying the last of the groceries needed for Christmas. Trying to decide if I want to race around this morning to be able to get there and back early afternoon. I don't want to run any risk of getting caught on the interstate in freezing rain, though.

There's plenty of food in the house for regular meals. We'll be able to get to the local places all weekend. I've almost talked myself into waiting until Monday, which will mean fighting huge crowds but the driving will be safer.

It all depends on how soon the rain starts. I'm not ready to go out now, so I'll see how things look in a couple of hours.

Good reminder for me, Kathryn - to be thorough in everything. Getting down to the wire here. I don't think I've ever been this far behind at this point before. Maybe I have. .. I haven't done much shopping for dh and dkids yet. And we're celebrating Monday. And we're celebrating dd18's bday Friday, so I need to shop and prep for that too. and Saturday, I will be driving dd15 around town to synchro practice and a bday party plus helping dh with soup kitchen in the afternoon, so I won't have Saturday as a shopping day. I could shop Sunday evening. . . .And we have Th. dinner tonight, but just S, R, and J. They're joining us for dd18's bday dinner too, I believe!

I did pick up ds yesterday afternoon. His last take home exam is finished, but he hasn't turned it in yet. He'll do that today.

I let dd15 stay home during 1st hour today. She has had so much homework and studying this week, it is almost ridiculous. She has been staying up until midnight each night. .. I feel Harriet can relate. It's not always like this, but when it comes, it all seems to all come at once. Anyhow, with synchro practice taking up 3 hours (w/ travel time) last night, she was struggling to finish all the homework and study for a science test and 2 hard history quizzes today. So, we gave her another hour this morning. I am just back from taking her to school.

lucylee, I hear what you're saying re: education! I'm thankful there are a lot of good hard challenging classes at our high school, and some really strong teachers behind them too. The English dept. here seems to generally stick to classics. Dd18 has been reading Plato, Aristotle, and Virgil, Chaucer (moving chronologically) in her mixed English/ancient civ/ art and music history class. I'm not sure what GG and dd15 have been reading, but they will read more Shakespeare and JD Salinger this year. Not sure what else. . .I do wish they wrote a lot more essays, though. I'm not sure my kids are receiving strong writing instruction, my main issue with the high school.

Book club last night was fun. We discussed the story for a while. It was one of Flannery O'Connor's short stories, so there was lots to discuss. I really like Flannery but it is mho that she is best read and then discussed with a group, so this was perfect.

Goals today:
- groc. store - th. dinner tonight and fixings for dd18's bday dinner + a bit of general shopping
- wrap dbro and dniece's gifts
- get their package in the mail already
- SHOPPING - I'm going to have to go to the mall. Ergh.
- shopping: specialty shopping area near downtown for an artsy item dh likes
- perhaps downtown.
- Th. dinner, eating early (for us), aiming for 6
- go get a Cmas tree!!
- I can wrap more gifts tonight. Maybe ds will watch LOTR with me. . .

It rained last evening and froze in the night so I had to be careful because of an icy glaze out side this morning the hen's water had a bit of ice on it I broke that for them when I went out to feed the I had a jug of warm water to add. The water in the coop was not frozen.

I'm watching a PBS show on Wales on hi-def sp?, it is quite good a lot of time these or on again in the p.m. if you want to catch it then.

Good Morning!

I woke up with a headache, sore throat and feeling less than my best. I'm hopeful if I ignore it, the symptoms will go away.

Been doing cards steadily since I got up. Not fast, almost on autopilot.... just doing the next card...repeat....repeat....

Cards due today = 31
# Cards completed 55
'% Cards completed = 64%
Papers processed = 19
Healthy Habits completed = 25%

I'm going to make a run for The Big City WM because even though we have enough people food to last over a week, I'm not sure I can stretch the cat food to last until Monday or Tuesday.

I hope the weather people know what they're talking about. The radar shows nothing going on right now and the text says no rain until after 3. (It's 11:20 now.)

I would rather avoid the WM crowds by shopping here in Tiny Town or going to Aldi, but they don't carry the right cat food and a couple of other things on my list for Christmas Eve. If I don't go anywhere else but WM, I should be back in the garage before the rain starts.

Wish I wasn't such a Nervous Nelly about the interstate being slippery, but that's the way it is since my accident on black ice several years ago.

Hello Dear Ladies,

Sorry to hear some of you are not feeling so well today.

It is in the 50's today and very cloudy. They are predicting snow and ice again for the weekend.

Have a big pot of dirty rice cooking on the stove. One dson moved my pot on to the stove for me and I can stir and add ingredients. I have a large black iron pot that I use a lot to make big batches of things.

Was so very busy last night at WM. Wednesdays are usually a very slow night and the computer doesn't schedule a lot of people there because it is usually slow. But the dumb computer doesn't realize it is Christmas time and we have more shoppers so we need more workers. Customer were getting very upset because they couldn't get assistance and were calling me while they were in the store. One of the assistant managers was so stressed out about the lack of coverage and came over to the fitting room for just a few minutes just to collect her thoughts. She was upset too about the way the computer schedules.

Going to go stir the rice, then surf the net for awhile.

Great day to all!

Good morning! I'm going to be trying to be thorough in making house presentable for the family next week. * whew *

So nervous about that. I'm not having nauseous panic attacks, just a general uneasy feeling. I don't want them laughing about me behind my back later... and I don't want my duncle tallying up all the needed repairs/etc around here... but as dfriend told me last night, I should think "vintage" rather than junky... unique, personality, for the odd things that they will be laughing about.

For example -- our refrigerator is covered in news photos of a certain coach -- he's not even our coach anymore -- but he had a knack for making the craziest, most hilarious expressions you could ever imagine. One morning I put one of his pictures on the refrigerator b/c, as I told dh, it made me LOL and I really needed a LOL sometimes. WELL... dh cannot understand moderation. He started collecting these pictures and now the whole side of the refrigerator is covered in pictures.

And like I said, my pantry and refrigerator are not stocked to cook homemade meals every night. Cereal, crackers, soup, milk, bread, soft drinks, fruit... that's about it. If we decide to cook, we buy for that meal that week. DH cannot stand to have food go to waste and throw out stuff. Says it's just like throwing money away.

I also need to pay attention to a fussy little boy, I think... BBL!
Tomorrow is another day.
