Simply Sunday
I'm sure it won't be a simple Sunday but I'm at a loss for words today (bad state of affairs for a preacher!) so I'm opening today's PWYC thread as simply Sunday.

Re: Simply Sunday
I woke up 90 minutes ago and haven't been able to get back to sleep. It occurred to me that I don't have 2 weeks until my next proper services, just one and I haven't started the sermon yet. It is a difficult passage that I'd like to challenge but the kids won't be going to Sunday School, so I have to consider what they will hear. (The passage is the massacre of the Innocents.)
The sound of ice pellets or freezing rain on the window didn't help lull me back to sleep so I'm up now.

Re: Simply Sunday
Good morning, villagers ~
Lynlee ~ Sending healing wishes for your DGD11 and DSis. Being ill at Christmas always seems like a double whammy of hurt. I hope you are able to have a nice family visit for the holiday.
Simple Sunday is appropriate, Kathryn. We got a lot of snow overnight and it is still falling, so the view out my kitchen window looks like a winter wonderland. I even sang the song while my coffee & English muffin were cooking. Simple pleasures.
My plan for today is to keep everything simple because the craziness starts tomorrow morning. Today I am on hold.
DMIL's gifts are at the post office, but postmaster put a notification card in our box yesterday instead of using a locker. Need to wait until the PO opens tomorrow to pick them up. I was going to use a gift bag, but I have pretty paper and would rather use that since they're here in time.
A meeting has been scheduled at the library tomorrow at 1 for some decision that cannot wait until January.
Not much in donations to deposit, so I am waiting until the end of the month to do that. Also cannot take action on Lego club until the group approves the expense, can't even begin publicity to gather interest yet.
It's too early today to start cooking for Christmas Eve.
The DF I recently visited in the nursing home passed away in her sleep yesterday morning. It will take some time to make funeral arrangements because her children live in different states, and need to work around Christmas services. I'm sure all the theatre friends will gather together sometime, since she worked there for several years, but that also will wait until after Christmas.
So, as I said, I'm on hold today. I will focus on normal 3Ds, decluttering, and getting the kitchen ready for party cooking. Simple.

Re: Simply Sunday
Hello Dear Ladies,
We have ice here, roads okay but the trees and power lines are thickly coated. Lots of call ins yesterday from trees and branches falling in driveways and roads.
(((Kathryn)))
Had a rough night with my shoulder and arm. Ached all night and could not get comfortable. I just have to make it through the day and then I have 4 days off.
DH shopped with me last night after work. The store was still very busy. It will be busy today too.
Going to get Dbrother up and help him with his morning routines. Then shower and work.
Great day to all!

Re: Simply Sunday
Today I need to do laundry, ironing and wrap gifts. Tomorrow will be buying groceries first thing and then cleaning.
We are having everyone for Christmas Eve. Dgd17 dd of dd1 has to work at the movie theatre. Dd1s dh has decided not to go to his dbs for Christmas Day. They smoke and dsil has decided he can't stand going there again. Dd1 just found this out the other day. Dh and I are use to being alone either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, but the girls are always at their in-laws if they aren't here. Dd2 and her family will be home all day because her dmil has decided not to have a dinner/get together. Dgd17 and the boys will go to their dads at 4. So since neither dd has other plans for Christmas Night we are having them over for supper. Originally when it was just going to be us, dh was going to do steaks. He doesn't think his W eber charcoal grill has enough room for "proper spacing", so he decided to smoke ribs. Both girls readily agreed and asked what to bring.
So I guess I better get with it..................

Re: Simply Sunday
Very meaningful morning for me today, first because of singing with what we are now calling "The Seasonal Choir" (I think this means "old fogies to give us something different from the very trendy Praise Band")
And we stayed in place through a scripture reading in which everyone was to try to remember the quietness of Linus' scripture reading in the Charles Schulz tv special. That gave a smile. Then still there, we led "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", and I think everyone was so happy with that moment. The sermon was thought-provoking, and afterward one of the ladies (sister of my late dear aunt by marriage) had brown-bagged fruit and nuts for everyone to take home, just like old times. HRH says she needs a thank-you note for that hard work. He had his orange eaten within minutes, lol. One of my dmother's contemporaries said to me, "Is this an awesome church, or what?" and I just laughed and laughed over a proper, fragile lady saying that.

Re: Simply Sunday
Home from church. Leave in an hour or so for the cookie exchange but that's a walk away, no more driving today.
Freezing rain had started. The city plow came by and we had 2+ feet of snow at the foot of the driveway when leaving. Our farmer was around with his tractor but doing our walkway first so I told dh to gun it and we got through just fine (much to his surprise but not to mine, I figure we are too careful with the car at times.) Knowing the farmer was at our place made me sure the church was done (same guy and he knows my priorities!)
Had to scrape ice off for over 10 minutes after the first service and another 15 after the second. So the car will stay inside now, I don't fancy scraping again.
The first service was a big success - 13 kids, 22 adults. Second had 8 and 16 (but that's counting dh, me and CM again.) In our village we were the only church open. And we had a new person who moved in 10 years ago and got the feeling he should attend church today while watching tv last night. Go figure. Even wilder, one of the mission readings talked about his hometown in New Brunswick! Hopefully, he'll be back.
Now to have some lunch and change into warmer clothes. My sister is also under the same storm but has no power (she leaves closer to Cathy) and my dd has bad ice too but still has power. She immediately prepared to draw water and then realized she doesn't live on a well anymore. That made her think of CM and I and figured we had no power because we hadn't posted so I corrected that misconception - we were just busy with church.

Re: Simply Sunday
I've got to go out in the cold and sleet to the party. That takes a lot of willpower. First I'll package up the squares I'm giving away.
