Lots of good stuff on here this morning! Love the story of Lilac's little dgd2. Our little ggd2 is now saying to our daughter "Gramma! There is no kissing today!" DD says "Oh yes there is kissing today!" Or she will say "Gramma! There is kissing today". What fun they are at this age.

I am also distressed about "making Christmas happen sooner than it should". Don't these people think about their employees - or care? The almighty dollar is more important than people I guess.

I am off to clean and keep up with preparing to leave. We have already had breakfast and went to Wally World for Totes and last minute Christmas gifts I have to deliver before we leave. Hey! Maybe it is good for me that everything is in the stores already!

What a busy place this village is!!!

I spent the day digging up cacti and planting pansy and lantana. At least we have something pretty that doesn't stick you.

Most of the cacti we dug up is called angel wings - it is a type of prickly pear cacti that has teeny tiny thorns that blow off. So we have to take a torch and burn the thorns before we handle it. Otherwise it can be inhaled and/or get into the eyes.

My brother brought out a long handled propane torch that got most of them. As we put the cacti pieces in a black plastic bag, you could see them airborne against the black plastic. Yucky things and I have 15 - 20 BIG plantings of them. This will be an all winter project.

Other than that, I made a great pot roast dinner that was appreciated by DBro and DH. And we watched a bit of football on the new TV. The TV sits on top of the fireplace in the corner of my living room. Really nice. It put out quite a bit of heat this morning when it was chilly. But most of the time we just have the flames on.

I think I am going to draw a nice hot bath and soak a bit before bed. TTFN

Long day for me.

I survived but am very tired.

Got off to my course only 3 minutes late and arrived early thanks to country roads and liberal interpretation of the words 'speed limit!'

The course was great but ran into the afternoon (usually the afternoon is preaching practice) so I missed the unit on dramatic monologs. But I still got a lot out of it. The course was given by a minister I really admire, so I was thrilled to get a chance to learn from him and not just learn by watching.

Got home by 2:15. Wasn't feeling great so took a pill and my temperature (still up) and then loaded up the car to get over to the church. Dh was doing a backup and that made us late by about 15 minutes. I snacked during that time since I would be missing my dinner.

The Asian supper was a great success. The church basement looked as good as it could without some other source of lighting and the place smelled great.

Six people didn't show up but five of those had paid for their dinner so it didn't matter from a financial point of view. Lots and lots of people were there to help out so I was finished setting up about 14 minutes early.

Then it was non-stop, go-go-go.

The Spirit moved people along nicely and only a few people had to wait for seats and only for a few moments.

The food was apparently terrific. I don't like Asian food so opted to not eat because I didn't want to spoil my healthy habits progress with something I'd be choking down. But by keeping busy, it helped create the illusion that I must have eaten at some point.

Everything was cleaned up and we were home by 7:45.

Everything at my house (except 5 decorative fans) was put away by 8:15.

Now I'm having a bowl of cereal and some salad for dinner. I did eat a sweet roll and a dessert, each time taking the food and sitting down with a late-comer who had no-one to chat with while eating.

Now I have to phone my music friend and make sure all is well with her. She was one of the no-shows.

oh Lilac - I used watch tv late at dd#1s after they went to bed - then not be able to turn the dang thing off. One time - After lots of buttons - success. But DD complained bitterly when it was time to turn it on again. After much agrovation whatever - it worked. I was severely told not to do it again. Also from dsil for turning off their computer by the off button when I couldn't figue it out . way back when ... your post takes me back.
Also remembering the young kids who plugged in an upturned heater and set fire to their house. that was in the 70s - x's cousin's kids.

Harriet - in the case I was involved it with dd's dmil it appeared going to the emotion she was feeling was part of finding the "off switch" for her dog concern misery. Acknowledging that it was a real worry that dogs were left without care. And that was distressing to her. Reminding her (dog)Boz was dead was not the same part of her brain. Praying your family can find some hidden switch in your fathers mind that will bring greater peace to you both. And allow him to be at your place.
Remembering also a couple who would change out of church clothes at church before visiting a parent in nursing home as otherwise she really wanted to go to church right then too.

I think using aged care facilities /nursing homes here is more widespread than many places overseas. Apart from a few real tragedies inc one this week - charges laid for a fire started 5 lives lost - most are held in high regard. Often church or community run. And Govt does help with care costs . But bean counters insist on lots of paperwork of everything done and no excess time for what I call general caring. to spend some time with residents that isn't bathing dressing bedding feeding etc. Some have great dementia units with enclosed outdoors. Theres one in Tassie been featured on tv that comes with a chicken pen to befriend the chickens/chooks, a bus stop to wait for non existant buses, an old model once popular car to sit in... Others ... I'd hope not to be in. ever. even though technically seeming up market.

I have 3 baby birds recently in flight that live around (outside) my house. this morning on my way to car I hunted source of feed me bleeting and saw the huddled row of them on my clutter that would one day be a completed shelving unit . Oh feed me now they say atm too though I can't see them from here.

This coming week it will be a year since I did a big declutter push in my bedroom. Thinking I'll try do some more. maintaining what was gained, sifting the hauled out stash that passed first toss. Also to get to empty out my carport stuffed w old lounge/dining rejects. theres stuff needs to go donation or dump. And to in some way get rid of the guinea pig mansion supplies except what is helpful / useful to me right now. Well it won't all happen at once but I need set my mind to it again.
