After posting the other day that I wish I had worked more on decluttering the attic in April, I set the timer for 30 minutes & headed up there. So pleased to report that the table is now cleared off!
Ta Da! I also chipped away at the pile that is left, & was able to fill one large trash bag & one box for donation. Dcat supervised
. He loves to run upstairs if the attic door is open & I leave an old chair cushion on the table for him to lay on. He ended up on the bottom shelf of a cabinet I was working in, stretched out on a folded blanket & purring like a freight train. He's such good company
.
Found some things up there that I wished I had room for on the main floor. Realized that a shelf in the guest bedroom would be a good storage spot, but dh had a ton of stuff stored there. When I mentioned cleaning out that closet several weeks ago he agreed, but we never got to it. So yesterday I tricked/got his help
by asking if I could have 15 minutes of his time. Suspicious but laughing, he asked what for. I wouldn't tell him until he admitted he had the time to give
. When I finally told him my plan, he laughed again & said "Ooooooh No!"
. I said we only had to do the shelf & nothing else.
He started examining each item & looking in every bag as he removed things. Remembering P&P's advise to take everything out & then decide what goes back, I was able to convince dh to quickly hand me everything so I could lay it on the bed. Several things got tossed, & almost half of the items were relocated to better places -- winter hats & gloves to the hall closet, paperwork to the office, some souvenir Tshirts into the laundry hamper (which will then be put away with his other Ts), camera accessories with his other camera stuff in another closet, etc.
After about 30 minutes we were still sorting & dh said,"I think we've been doing this longer than 15 minutes!" I said we could stop, close the door, & come back to it another time. But he wanted to finish, which I admit I had counted on when I first asked for 15 minutes of his time
. When we were done I had space on the shelf for 2 large storage baskets. One has some of my stuff in it, the other I want to fill with guest sheets & towels so everything is in that room instead of up in the attic.
I'm off to have lunch & then I'll head back up to the attic for another session since it is nice & cool here today. I love how seeing progress on a big project really energizes me to continue working on it. Be back later to have some tea & cuop.
