Also agree re: phones. We are the same w/ds & ddil. They actually have a home phone, b/c it was bundled in with their internet package, but they seldom use it. We just call ds's cell phone out of habit, I guess b/c we've been using that number for over 10 years now.
I also currently hate to call ddil's cell phone b/c I know she doesn't feel well, and I am afraid of disturbing her if she's napping.

I slept and slept last night. I was making up for two sleepless nights. I feel so good this morning.

Good morning! Yesterday, I got done what I needed to do: picked up toys, updated Quicken, helped at VBS, ate dinner at church, ran the swamp cooler experiment (found it is not working), watered XDH's dog, and copied some dates from his calendar. For VBS, I helped as a performer in a skit. Unfortunately, none of us could hear our cues, so professional it was not! While waiting for my time, I got a little crochet done. I was offered a commission to do a shawl from the book I am using to do my jacket, but I am not fast enough for that. Also, I usually work in doll clothes, so I don't know how this will turn out. A financial advisor will be calling me in 30 minutes. I am consolidating some of my accounts.

Tonight is more VBS, so there is not much time for house stuff. I need to put the trash out, pick up the kichen table, and put the check out for the maids. I am still not getting paid at payroll and am getting nervous. I had weird dreams last night due to the stress.

Harriet, the prefix we have is unique to this mountain area - in fact for years it was the only prefix and folks just gave each other the four digit phone number, kind of like Mayberry, NC. So I don't think we will be able to keep it, unless something has changed? Of course, we've had it for over 25 years now.

I've made a substantial round of calls, but still not the DPC. Now the local "handyman" said he could be right over so I hesitate to make this particular DPC, which is likely to be lengthy. Now have appts set for new house - blinds & custom closet, and for existing house, carpet replacement which will be done after we move out, after painting is finished. Got gift wrapped for a new baby in the congregation, and was ready to write check and do card for son of temple secretary, but I don't know his last name.

- take dd16 to Walgreens for passport photos + I can pick up my meds for toenail infection

I have completed a neatly typed list of addresses for ds/ddil to use when writing thank you notes!

Now... to complete my own thank you notes for dmil & the ones I want to write to those who helped w/shower.

If I am not finished by Thursday, I will make a pact w/ds to write 10 per day. However, I only have about 20 to write. They have 48, counting us & dgparents. I don't really expect one for us but I put our names on there so they'd have a record of what we brought to the shower. If dgs is anything like me, he will enjoy looking through his baby book some day.

I also MUST MUST MUST do laundry. Either that or start going b r a-less!

Haven't walked yet, either. Thought dh might want to walk with me this afternoon.

QUESTION re: thank you notes --
Several of the gifts had Mr/Mrs John Doe on the card, while many of them just had Jane Doe, or Jane & Jill Doe, you know -- just the ladies in the family.
However, since some WERE noted from Mr & Mrs, I just made out the address list w/ALL Mr/Mrs names.
Do y'all think that is okay, even though the man's name might NOT be on the card?
Often times, I have gotten a thank you from a tea or baby shower that is addressed only to me -- and I ALWAYS include dh's name on cards -- and dh will jokingly say, "Hmmph... I guess they don't give me ANY credit for that gift..."

Also, I addressed all widows as Mrs. John Doe, even though I know some of them have changed their phone listing etc to their own names. I was just taught that Mrs. Jane Doe means a woman is divorced, and I wanted to be correct, even if those ladies may not always be "correct" in addressing themselves.

Just was reminded that I haven't posted lately. I've been reading on my phone which isn't easy to reply as we have been out and about for 2 days.

When we weren't out - I was napping.

I have been fighting between 2 Drs. about DH's scripts. Pharmacy found interaction and one Dr. said go ahead take it anyway - other said NO WAY (But wouldn't write script for substitute). So we finally got that done. The Pharmacy should mail out tomorrow and in the meantime I have an OTC to use.

Finally got TV up and it wouldn't work as they had decommissioned the box. So that is fixed.

Also trying to get our kids in for family reunion and make plans to meet people from both sides who haven't met DGD#6.

Really same ole same ole when we are visiting family.

Reading here it seems as if everyone is involved in all sorts of extra things, all but just general house cleaning. It's that way here today too.

Desk/business/project chores all morning with DH.

Out to run errands, 4 banks (too many I know but all different kinds of stuff going on); stop at office supply store; tag office to renew truck tag. Took a few hours.

Have to make DPC now about project, how do they want paperwork, mail, email, fax. Customer thinks he can make any changes he wants because there is money not being used and he thinks he can spend it all...ah, no, changes have to be approved before any of that money is given out - or we will do the work and not be paid. Complicated mess. Government agency. Yuck.

lucylee, I think it's fine to send cards Mr. and Mrs. And widows seldom mind seeing their husband's names. But as for me, I always use the woman's first name, whether married, single, divorced, widowed, in a commune or R-U-N-N-O-F-T. And I am as likely to say, "Mamie and Dwight" as "Dwight and Mamie" {possibly I'm more likely to do that if I suspect Dwight isn't going to know what I'm talking about).

Well, 3 tall kitchen garbage bags later, dd and I have returned. It was another couple hours of emotional roller-coaster for me, mostly divided between "I can't believe I'm throwing away the familiar belongings of the most wonderful woman EVER," and "What in the WORLD were they saving this junk for?". It was punctuated with a few oddities. A very vintage, tiny 14K gold ring with what appears to be a small diamond setting that I've never seen in my life. An award from the AKC to my ddad and a couple pedigrees of darling babies reared in the kennel, now long gone. My grandmother's favorite strands of beads. Oh, gloves, Kathryn, but BookSaver will not be surprised to hear that even a 13-year-old says they are too tight. (How tiny were these women, and how were they kin to me?)

'Afternoon everyone. Another hot, sunny day here. I couldn't get to sleep last night till after 2 am, but woke at 7 am this morning, early for me, and decided I may as well get an early start. Breakfast was done, bedroom and kitchen cleaned up before 9 am. Spent some time in office/craft room dusting, swept carpet, etc. Went through a large stack of papers, aarp mags, receipts, medical receipts, etc. Most of it was tossed, put away the medical stuff.

Ds#2 had stopped by on his way home from work yesterday to mow our front yard, but also did half the back as it had grown more with all the rain we had last week. This morning dh finished mowing the back --- he's now napping in his recliner. It really tires him out to do that.

OKay, that recipe looks good. I will have to try some of those recipes. Have a good time at the 'ol fishing hole!

Thinking of Norma today also. Also Mr. Dee! Hope the doctor is able to give you some good answers.

Hope you and dd13 make some good progress at dparents house today, Harriet.

Odd about the power outage Twins. Ddil#2 said they had no power for a while today, also. She didn't know why; there was no rain or storm. She was in the middle of her school work and needed to get it finished. They live about 8 miles from us; nothing happened here.

There is a moving van across the street from us today. The house that has been vacant for 5 or 6 yrs. was either bought or being rented by a family with a couple of young children. The last couple of weeks there have been workers replacing the roof and doing a lot of yardwork. I'm glad the house will be occupied again.

Lucy, don't know about correctness, but I would probably address my thank you to the name/names on the gift card.

I think I'll see what else I can do. Waving hello to everyone......
