Well heck. Just realized it's Thurs and I was supposed to meet with Rabbi this a.m. at temple. Also, in looking at calendar I have the wildlife guy coming at 10:30 to evaluate squirrels in attic. I've still been sitting here in la-la land. Pass the BGS!

So now:
-reboot laundry
-clear kitchen counters
-s2s
-start the dishwasher?
-make the bed

Helia just reminded me that sometime in the next week and a half I need to drop in at the hospital for my chest x-ray. And the rabbi just reminded me that I'm supposed to sit on the bimah tomorrow night at services. Was considering dinner out with family (and Z) in honor of dkids birthday so need to discuss with dh now. And person in charge of dinner was looking for a person to do grilling earlier in the week, I hope she has found someone?

Dee--Near the center of the state. You probably came pretty close to us on your trip up from FL. Small world...

About doors--we got a steel half-light for new back door. The glass is patterned and has silvery metal pieces between the glass that make a flower design. I can see who is outside, but they can't see straight in without looking in certain small areas of the glass. The best part is that door is now airtight, way more secure, and "bear-proof"!

The first round has been done...except I only took the laundry upstairs - haven't put it away yet. I did, however, get the dishes washed, so it's all good! Next round will be some outside stuff before it gets hot (although I'll be weeding in the sun at dMum's this afternoon )

I'm with Kathryn on wanting some way to see who's on the other side before I open the door. In light of that, I've just added another thing to my l*st for today - to contact the office and ask about getting a peephole installed. These new doors they put in during our "renovations" have a window, but it's MUCH too high for anyone under about 6'6" to see through.

Off I go again.....

- remove stuff from front window well
- dog bomb patrol
- tidy back yard
- remove some dandelions from front lawn
- eat breakfast/take meds

Outside AM cards done - front flower gardens water deeply (in ground sprinklers water 15 minutes every morning but in intense heat the ground needs a good soaking once a week or so), hoses moved and sprinkler going, moved wagon load of vegetables to a better shade area, walked to road for newspaper/check mail, birds feed, dogs feed and water bowl refilled, cleared porch of clutter than seems to appear without any effort . Someone will be here later this morning to check on livestock, but I heard momma horse insistently calling for her baby so I went and checked on them. After last night fireworks going off on both sides of our pastures I was afraid the foal was hurt (or worse). Thankfully all is well.

Next up - snuggle LO (just got up), then cook/serve/clean up breakfast

56*-87* It's not so cold out here today.
With some young families in the neighborhood the fire works were more than last year hear but the mid-day loud booms were less and less bottle rockets so that's good.

I've picked up one room today so far.
Coffee is made.
Make bed is next then fold laundry.
No granny duty today & tomorrow is the other granny's day.
H. just left for work so at least he's not on call hoping they have enough work for him to drive truck instead of doing clean up.

Got half of a snail mail letter written yesterday hoping to finish it today.
When picking stuff out for the spec. house I would go in the middle price range not the cheapest but not the most expensive one either.

Found out after the year we were nearly ran over by another boat with the whole family in it after fireworks display we decided not to do that again b/d it was just not safe. Other folks saw it and they patrol the river a lot more other people chased down the boater and reported him to the police. Some how we felt validated.

OKay, I'm afraid I can't weigh in much on the front door discussion - we really had limited choices from our builder and we're not that happy with the fiberglass door we ended up with - it's painted a dark red as a contrast to the house, but the little dividers have to stay white so we're staying two tone. Probably the top 1/2 or more of our door is glass and matches the windows on the front of the house for continuity. We also have the long glass panels on either side, and a top panel that is glass for a little extra light. The front door opens into an entry with the family room directly behind it - we will decide once we're moved in whether we need sheers or blinds for privacy, but I hope we can do without.

I finished that round. As soon as I got out of the shower I heard ddogs barking - ds was home. Said his employer didn't have much for him to do and was closing early anyway. Going to see if he wants to go with me to p/y dd and Z - would give him and Z extra visiting time.

Probably stress but I have indigestion again today.

Good morning, villagers ~

I've been trying to get chores done early this morning. Need to get a few checks ready to take to post office, and call to make an appointment for car maintenance.

It occurred to me last night that this heat probably is not good for my desktop pc so I shut it down. I've been using the netbook to check Email and cuop this morning. It's slower, but it was time to run updates on it anyway so that's another thing to check off the list. I'm sitting directly in front of a fan, too, with the netbook on a counter to keep it cooler.

Friends of the Library meeting is this evening. I want to visit this one because I think they will be planning for the book sale the first weekend of August. I like to help with that project because it's their major fund raiser.

Oops, just got a warning that battery is low, must shut down. BBL.

Thank you so much for the update about Indiana, Emptynester. With little britches here having croup, and the doctor saying it is made so much worse when the temp is so high, I was thinking of how the temps might have affected Indiana, too.

The amount of window I've been comfortable having in a door has grown along with how rural the setting of the home. Here, I don't mind 6-pane windows, but do keep a wreath in the front one, which limits a visitor's understanding of how to look around it. (Also, if someone was so inclined, there are windows to peer in not far from the door, and very accessible since the front porch extends past them, so who am I kidding.) Of course, there is a German Shepherd on the porch, too. That might take the visitor's interest a bit. When we lived in the big city, and before that when my late husband was in the Army, I was grateful for a full door. Yes, Kathryn makes a good point about a peephole, though. Wasn't it on the show 2 and a half men, the mother had a camera and speaker in a high corner of front porch, and the visitor had to make a case to her from outside that they deserved entrance - there's a thought. The invention of a one-way-vision curtain fabric would make some money, I'd think.

Headed out to take dd's visitor to meet her mother and aunt. She doesn't know it, but her aunt is taking extended family to lunch for the big announcement of her pregnancy, so I am sworn to secrecy from both girls.

Breakfast cooked (hot link, egg, pear & purple grapes), served, cleaned up. LO isn't a breakfast eater by choice, but will eat a scoop of cottage cheese, yogurt and bite or two of fruit.

Moved water hose/sprinkler to different part of the yard. I try to keep sprinkler going in yard all the time we are home in an effort to get grass going. I'm guessing we have 25% of yard covered in grass so we have a looooong ways to go! After losing 10 big trees from storm, followed by summer of extreme drought and no working water well.....the poor yard is having to start from scratch. What used to grow well being in shade is now in hot sunshine. Most shade loving ground cover died and been replace by weeds.

Picked a container of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers from the garden....ignoring the squash that needs to be picked or pulled up. Made a gallon ziploc of cucumber slices, vinegar/sugar mixture with LO help.
