Aphelion Thursday

Post by bittersweet »

Wouldn't ya know it? Yesterday, I slept in until 11:15am....today (after finally getting to bed shortly after 1am, I find myself up and too awake to go back to bed at 4am :? So...I know I'll end up being tired in a couple of hours, but in the meantime, I may as well get some things knocked off the uber-long todo l*sts that I put together last night.

First I'll lay out a cyber-breakfast buffet of muffins, pastries, fruit...there's juice, milk (white or chocolate), and iced water in the fridge. Coffee, tea, and assorted accessories are over on the counter, and it's all low-carb, diabetic friendly, fat free, and even calorie free! I'm going to grab a cup of coffee, take my meds, and start in on "the l*st"!

- put away clean dishes
- take out trash
- downstairs critter care
- tidy living room
- put away folded laundry

Oh...for those wondering..today's thread is named in honour of the day of the year that the earth is the farthest from the sun in its orbital path.

Great breakfast, bittersweet! Glad you explained "aphelion". I was going to have to look that up.

DH was up at 5 am, which woke me up early. One of our smoke detectors was chirping, due to a low battery. Finally figured out which one, so that problem is solved.

Hope it's a great day for all of us. More paperwork and phone calls to take care of here.

Good Morning!

Bittersweet - thank you for the virtual breakfast. It was perfect. :)

Yesterday was enjoyable at family gathering. There were six children under the age of five so LO had plenty of playmates. LO confidence in water grew by leaps and bounds since he could touch bottom in that pool.

Today focus will be shopping. Beside our normal grocery list, DH and LO desperately need shoes. We need to select a front door for the house so that project can proceed. Also we making some improvements to the customers trash collection area at MPB, so we need several of those gigantic rolling trash cans. When combined with our typical Thursday routines, these shopping adventures will take up all of our extra time today.

Need to get cards organized and set up for today.

I never got around to posting yesterday - I started at one point and then forgot to hit submit so it was still here last night! Busy day, interrupted by a lovely nap. No progress made on packing, moving, etc. at all.

In the morning dh and I went to new house and did some more marking of dings on the walls and things to be fixed. We stopped for groceries, went home and unloaded, and almost immediately went back out to JCC for 4th event. Stayed longer than we meant to because of big thunderstorm with lots of rain, then home for nap, aided by two beers I drank there. After nap, went next door to dneighbors for her cookout - neighbors on other side there and another couple of dfriends. Home again past nine, when dMacs was losing it over fireworks.

I feel like I blew away the entire day yesterday. Today I am driving to camp to bring home dd and Z for less than two days - they need to be back at noon on Saturday, but I wanted to give them the chance to come home. We obviously won't be living here when dd is done with camp, and the sale of Z's house (his parents are divorcing) closes tomorrow. I told Z he was welcome to stay here of course, but I don't know what his plans are otherwise; ds is already regretting that he has to work tomorrow instead of hanging out with Z.

So I need to get rolling soon. Woke up with a start at 6:30 to loud sound of dh's voice talking to ds just outside the bedroom, then ds immediately informed me of a dog accident on the carpet (which is to be replaced anyway.)

Road trip to camp will be at least six hours and I need to leave around one p.m.

Augh! My admiration is growing for those building/buying homes and making endless decisions. I am struggling with decision on the simplest of things......a front door. Do I want wood, fiberglass, steel? What about window/s in door? i've looked at door selections in 2 store and only found things I didn't care for. Nothing that said "I'm the right door....take me home with you!" Our local lumber yard guy gave DH 2 websites for me to use to find a door. That just made it worse! Instead of 3 dozen doors to choose from.....now there are hundreds! this isn't brain surgery. NO ONE CARES what kind of door we have. Stop over thinking it and just pick something out!!!

 Okay  I needed a chuckle this morning and you started me out with one.

DH was just in to pick up his septic tank clip boards. He's helping the hired guy do the rest of the readings. He's going golfing with DS-R this afternoon -first time in several years. He's already asked for his (rescue) inhaler. It's supposed to be about 85 and I need to go find him a hat to wear. Think all his straw hats must be in FL. ;)

DD is going to get her oil changed and I think I'm in 'charge' of the 3 DGKs. Oldest dgd17 is going home later today. Wow! XSonil even gave DD a hug when she picked up dgd on Monday. Know she keeps telling other gd13 that she needs to be nicer and stop being so rude. Good luck with that!

Suppose it's (past) time to get s2s and get busy. I should go do a LOL. Oh my! Just saw the reflection of my (bed) hair in the computer screen. If anyone comes to the door they'll surely go running & screaming!

Can you give us an area where you live in PA, Elly? (North, south, west, east?) I live in Western NY between Rochester and Buffalo.

Door comment: I like something that allows me to see who is on the other side. Whether via a window, peephole or side lights, I don't care, I just don't want to open the door without knowing.

Oh, and I'd rather have something I don't have to paint or maintain, but that's just lazy me.

I'm up and moving. Slept quite well - 6 hours until the traffic started in heavy, then dozed for 2. There's someone next to us but we never heard them all night or even this morning. Shower was hot and reasonable strength. I can see why this is the top rated motel in town.

We are rushing off as quick as we can since the weather will be so hot (at least 90) and it will be such a long day. Tomorrow will be hotter. Not sure the restaurant tomorrow has a/c but the high temp will be 93. I'm out of 'cool' clothes so am making do for today so I have something for tomorrow.

Just got word via FB that Indiana is in the hospital again. Sounds like they are getting things under control but she will be there thru the weekend.

I was wondering about Indiana. Thanks for letting us know, MT.

Our outside doors to the house and garage all have some window panes in them. We prefer natural wood to painted, and are slowly switching over. I think we only have one painted door left.

4th was fun here. We had about 20 people over, part of one of our small groups + another friend and a family fr. church. We had fun with water balloons and setting off fireworks. Dh set some of them off from our brick chimney. Yes - he was on the roof, as were most of the older kids. We managed not to catch any of the trees on fire.

We had a rainstorm come through early this morning! We had a small one come through 2 nights ago as well, so everyone is feeling better about the state of our vegetation. Maybe the yellow spots of grass will green up.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get my bloodwork done today or not. I made a plan with the girls that we would all go to the med. center together this morning to get dd14's x ray done, dd16's blood drawn, and my blood drawn. I forgot that I need to fast for 12 hours beforehand and was still nibbling at 11 pm last night. I'm weighing the chances of the girls being up and ready and our being over there at 11 a.m. I'd like to get over there earlier than that, but I'm not sure that will happen. . . . . Hmmm.... In the meantime, I'm sipping water.

My day will be a mish-mash, as usual.
-med. errands done, at least for the girls
-dd14 haircut at 1
-groc. store to prep family for my absence next week
-some deskwork
-dinner out with moms group leaders
-dh leaves for NL tonight.

I think I'll go s2s.
