(Okay)
Loved reading Dee's opening. Great news about DGS doing better.
I am thankful for God's provisions through this tough time. I am thankful for my family. The U.S. is less than perfect, but I am thankful I live in a free country.
So at least I slept ok last night. I kept the overhead light on but dimmed to its lowest. I figured at least if I woke afraid I'd instantly be able to see that everything was ok in the room.
I have a very stiff neck from the other night. I don't know what I did to cause this, but it's very sore, has made my jaw sore and my head ache. I thought it'd feel better today, but still very bad. So, I just have 3 chores on my list for today.
Clean up the mess in the kitchen.
Go through paperwork on my desk and do anything urgent. There is a lot there.
Fold 2 loads of laundry that are done and waiting, hang up the one load in the washer.
If I can just get those things done I will be satisfied.

Re: THANKFUL THURSDAY
Back from the library!
Third political call of the day is talking to the machine right now; I will be so glad when this election is over, but, like Harmony, I'm glad I live in a democracy.
Good luck w/DD16, helia! I'm glad for her sake that you aren't just dismissing it as teen angst. Though didn't you say the other day that she was having thyroid trouble & needed meds adjusted? As we're seeing here, anxiety often goes w/thyroid problems. Maybe a talk with the endocrinologist wouldn't be a bad idea, either.
Sorry to hear of more DD drama, OKay. As for today's cards -- you can do it!
Speaking of cards, I think I got 21 of 24 done yesterday. I'm up to 5/24 at the moment.
Was not able to put the backdrop up for the bulletin board -- the school is out of the paper I was planning to use, so I'll see if I can pick up some suitable wrapping paper. If not, I'll have to use a bunch of 12 x 18s.
Next up -- first, more caffeine, I think. Then:
• start wash
• excavate dining table
• tidy couch & coffee table
• check playroom

Re: THANKFUL THURSDAY
I'm thankful that Dee's & Ivy have good news!
Adding mine that h. has been working this week!
I need to restart doing a gratitude list grateful for this board.
Dgd will be here today thankful that the grands all live close!
B.S. 112 today that's a good # to begin the day with.
Today's goal add a blank gratitude card to my file as a reminder it will say today's grats and numbered 1-5 down it on the lines to prompt me to remember to think of what I am grateful for. I can put them in my journal or just think of it while I'm on my walks.
Got out my smaller coffee maker and surpise found a 2nd smaller one behind it!
Who does that!?

Re: THANKFUL THURSDAY
Oops, this post sat on the screen for a really long time while I've been working.
I have to keep the computer on in case of last-minute Emails, but must resist the temptation to sit & chat!
***
I am thankful for the opportunity to take off for a few days to sew with friends. The disadvantage of being an officer of the sewing group is that I don't get to have any social time at the meetings. I'm always having to work on the business part of it, which is important to keep the group going, but I think it causes distance between the board and the general members. I live "at least half an hour from anywhere," and DMom and the rest of our family live in the opposite direction from all of my friends, so it's a rare opportunity. The sewing retreats are my chance to just sit and talk to pals about our fun hobby and the cool stuff we see in magazines, tv & websites.
Nancy & Scattered ~ Thanks for the recommendation Crystal Lite Pure. I, too, have to be careful about artificial sweeteners. I'll look for it.
Kathryn ~ I'm glad you were finally able to get some restful sleep.
Lynlee ~ The Mummies exhibit sounds fascinating.
Okay ~ I love your gratitude game in the morning as a fun and calming way to ease LO into his school day.
I did not do as much packing as originally planned yesterday, though pretty much everything is gathered in bags and baskets. I realized that some of the fabrics needed to be rewashed. I also realized that since I don't have keys to the camping lodge, there's no point in my going out there early. Thus I didn't stay up all night getting ready, went up to bed at my normal midnight.
The retreat registration form says we start at 2:30. I'm continuing a steady pace in doing chores and packing. I'll hit the road right after lunch.
I'm taking my Netbook with me because the lodge is supposed to have wifi internet access. I'm hoping that I'll at least be able to check Email. It will also be handy to look up sewing websites if anyone has questions about how to do something.
You know what I wish I had, though? In a couple of movies I've seen little roll-up computer keyboards that the tech can carry in a pocket. The keyboard on the Netbook is fine, but the screen is tiny. Well, it's large compared to a phone, but tiny for looking at spreadsheets, photos and instruction videos. I don't want to carry around a 17" laptop, I just want a large screen. Somebody please invent a lightweight folding screen that will plug into one of the Netbook's USB ports -- for a price that won't take my entire retirement account!
Coffee break is over, time to get back to chores.

Re: THANKFUL THURSDAY
Dee so grateful that the surgery went fine.
I have so so many things I am grateful for: God, family, friends, everyone here, for people I don't know but meet as i go through my day, my life and things that were given to me so I can learn from them, all my blessings. I am just grateful for each day. Too many things to mention. I am truly very grateful.

Re: THANKFUL THURSDAY
Bookie - my DS connected his DW's netbook to a TV screen when we Skyped the video of the puppies a couple months ago. They were at a friend's house and all the kids then got to see the puppies. All he had to carry was some cables and used the TV there. Just an idea.
We've had a good morning watching the para gliders puttputting over the campground. That would feel like being a bird.
We went out last evening to try to find somewhere to eat and couldn't find any cafes open. Looks like they serve breakfast and lunch. Anyway we scouted the road out and found a gas station that is an easy in and out. So we will fill up before we leave.
Today will be another lazy day. I think I will watch some NCIS on the computer as I missed the last two shows. We only have the cable channels not networks this summer.
Time for breakfast. TTFN

Re: THANKFUL THURSDAY
After spending an hour working on cards, I stopped and cut some pumpkins out of construction paper (requested by LO teacher) I watched the 2 new episodes of TV show while doing the mindless cutting. We don't get TLC channel however the shows are usually posted on Youtube the next day.
turning my focus back to the cards.....just do the next card

Re: THANKFUL THURSDAY
Well, the dining table took longer than I expected -- actually cell phone distraction again, as I packed up the defective one and got rid of most of the packaging of the working one -- the girls will be happy to have some bubble wrap they can pop when they get home. However, since starting laundry & cleaning off the dining table are each cards of their own, I'm up to 7 cards completed!
Glad your sugar's good, Nancy!
Enjoy your retreat, Bookie! We'll have to get the inventive DHs here working on that screen for you!
No shock that blessed is counting her blessings!
I watched NCIS on the computer last night, MT, though in my case b/c the hockey meeting kept me away from the TV.
See, OKay, you're forging ahead just fine!
Gas company truck has been in front of our house for a while now. I wonder why? Meters were read yesterday, I thought.
So, next up:
• couch/coffee table/playroom -- take two!
• flip the wash
• figure out dinner -- DH won't be home due to Open House -- they'll feed him at school -- so I need to find s/thing the girls will eat that I don't mind & won't have to slave over; in the best of all possible worlds, we have enough coupons stashed away to get a free pizza (local pizza place has coupons on their med/large boxes -- get a free 1-topping large with 10 coupons)
• e-mail dd's team parents to see if any can take her

Re: THANKFUL THURSDAY
When I opened this morning I really did not know what to call it. Thankful came out of the blue and I'm so glad it did. Nice to see how we each reflect on our blessings -gives us pause to remember those things. Sure it's a good start of a day for any of us.
DDIL#2 texted me (she works within the same hospital/university where DGS19 is right now). She ran over to see him very briefly. She said he was resting and the quiet helps some with his head pain. Have no idea how long he'll be in. Not even sure he had insurance any more.
He was on SSI and Medicaid (because of his neurological problems). I think both have gone away -probably after he turned from 18. DShelley was very good at going through all that stuff. I do know he's having a hard time right now and he worries me. He's been trying to get a job, but is legally blind and of course can't drive. Praying hard for something to show up for him once he's recovered.
Went to W Mart this morning in town where dh had breakfast. Unfortunately it was surprisingly not a Super store so ended up not getting a lot of my list. So I'll still have to go somewhere to get some other things this week.
Think I'll run into town, get the mail and fill up the gas tank. Gas is $.05 cheaper on Thursdays. Never thought to look at S am's and we were right by there this morning.

Nancy, don't forget who you are talking to. We ALL do things like that.
I've been searching for the hand-held hairdryer for a couple weeks. (dd and I both let our hair air-dry 95 percent of the time, but it might help her now with new school schedule). She also ran out of conditioner during that time, so I've been reaching into the bottom drawer of my vanity to get her the sample packets stored there. Interestingly, I noticed that I've been moving the hair dryer over to reach the packets each time I did it. It's amazing to me that when I'm looking for one thing I am so single-minded.
Long phone call from dear cousin Mary made me smile today. Some things we talk about are sad, but getting to talk about it with each other is a very happy thing.
Sweetening drinks, etc. - I don't care for that particular Crystal Light truvia-sweetened product, but do like my little packets of the truvia , which I can use to sweeten coffee, oatmeal, etc. instead of sugar or any of the questionable sweeteners. (Truvia being one brand-name of Stevia, the natural sweetener that "they" can't find anything wrong with eating. - made of grapes or something?)
Gotta run.
