I got up on the late side - of course was up earlier a couple of times to take care of dMacs' needs. (The dog will come in and pester me to death for his breakfast when he hears me roll over or any other indication that I might be awake - while dh is sitting in the living room watching TV already. I try to pretend I'm still asleep and he just continues....) I read the paper at home and dh and I walked the ddogs and I headed on to work. Review pts on the return don't look bad at all so I will work on our return soon.

DD still asleep when I left - I said goodbye to her as she will head back to K-town this afternoon and I may not be home in time. Someone asked about the Kugel - it's a noodle pudding. Mine is modeled on dh's dmom's recipe which I lost, but have been faking. Eggs, vanilla, whole milk, a dash of salt baked in the oven with egg noodles. Close to the end of the baking period, it gets cinnamon sprinkled all over the top which caramelizes a bit. Some people make them with ricotta or cottage cheese or add various fruit, which I really like, but dh and dd demand the same old recipe. Anyway, dd has a cake pan sized kugel to take back to school and share.

Wednesday dd2 business was flat, as in 2 gelatos were sold. 1 to her sister and 1 to an employee. No one painted anything. Friday they had a really good day. That was before the newspaper article came out. Yesterday they doubled the day befores receipts. The newspaper article was very nice and the pictures in color. On the front page in the right hand corner is a black and white 2" X 3" closeup of dd2, with the page of her article. I told her it about it and she said they always do that. She called awhile ago and said she thought it was a thumbprint size picture like normal. Her dad said the article was excellent and he was very leary and skeptical when she started this venture. What has really amazed her is how many dads are coming in. Which is what she had hoped for. Today is her first birthday party.

Dgs8 has a game this afternoon. After next weekend the boys football season is over.

Good morning, villagers ~

Normally on a Sunday I'll get up early and do several hours of quiet work so as not to wake DH. Then I'll take a little nap because he sleeps until after noon, and we go to the truck stop for a late lunch. We take the newspaper with us and sometimes run into other locals, sometimes talk to friendly truckers rolling through the state.

Today, however, I won't have time for that since I'll probably be going back up to the library shortly after 1 for more volunteer work. I slept late, have done a couple of hours work, and now I'm getting ready to cook bacon & pancakes for early lunch.

I didn't know it was still supposed to be raining so much today. We're recovering from a long drought, though, so it's all good.

I did get to watch some of the Too Cute kittens & puppies yesterday. Here is their live kitten cam, although it looks like nap time right now:

Nancy, Sorry dgd wet the bed. We have that, too, sometimes with a dgs. It happens.

Harriet, Standard is quite a multi-meaning word, isn't it.

Lynlee, Glad you have a sunny day. You sound busy. I hope your house bound friend continues to gain strength, too.

So far, I wrote 2 cards/letters last night and prayed this morning. Standard for us is DH watching pro football all day, while he tends the fireplace insert fire, and I write letters, do laundry, walk, crochet, read, and write. It's a day where we baby step and relax more than get much done. I guess it's a day where we're gearing up for the week.

We are sitting in the parking lot at the DQ in Gila Bend, AZ. It is a tradition to stop here for lunch (altho it is only 10 am) on our way thru. We go west on I-8 to Gila Bend and then back up to 10 and avoid all the Phoenix traffic .

We are waiting for them to open as the machines aren't freezing yet. It is good for DH to get out and stretch. We have a little over 100 miles to go.

Morning y'all...

I'm laughing at Twin's four-legged alarm clock...I've got the same ones here Both believe that when they wake up, I should follow. They only have one thing in mind...breakfast, breakfast, breakfast. Sadie has a special howl...or woo-wooing as I call it that she uses to let me know its time to eat. Willis comes barreling out of the bedroom and runs around the living area to the tune of the Lone Ranger...delot, delo t delotlot lot...then sprints to the back door, sits and waits for me. If I try to ignore either on of them, its wet kisses for me till I get up.

Last night we went to the car show and sat around in folding chairs...thats what we do after we look at other people's cars and visited with friends until we were almost the last on there. First night of really comfortable evening temps and no one was in a hurry to go home. I was able to sleep with the windows open once more, but have a feeling the ac will be turned on before this week is out.

I am off to play in the dirt again. I wasn't able to get much done yesterday 'cause Sweetie decided he wanted to go to the 12:30 afternoon movies. Still have flowers i need to put into the ground. Its suppose to be in the high 90's by the end of the week. May put off going to the fair till the next week. There's something about state fairs and 90+ heat that just doesn't appeal to me.

Ivy...Although I graduated from the University of S. Alabama, I went to TN for 3+ years. Met my son's father during that time and left when he joined the Navy. My son did his undergrad work at University of Alabama. He is now working on his International MBA at South Carolina. Told him how convenient it was that he chose a new university that had the same colors as his old school. SC is doing well in the SEC series as well. I don't think that SC plays against AL this year. Lucylee attends the OTHER Alabama University. She's got the orange part right, but the blue really keeps us apart

Steady rain here.

Church was very nice. The music went really, really, well. Our musician played a jazz version of an old standard that the two best singers did as a duet, with the lyric of the chorus written out so the congregation could sing along on the chorus at the end. Her son played snare drum with it and it sounded wonderful. He is only 10 (actually, still 9 but 10 in 17 days) but quite a good sense of rhythm, especially for jazz. His dad is into jazz so recordings are played often at home.

It was lovely to see our former minister of 19 years.

Potluck was good. I gave the minister a rundown of the seminar yesterday and will make a presentation to Worship Committee on November 18th. I have 10 biscuits left over but they'll go well with my leftover stew and as snacks.

Now that I'm in the house for a bit, listening to the rain on the roof, I'm becoming quite tired. I've only been up 6 hours so far so it is early for my nap.

Got a load of laundry done for my ddad. (This is beyond all the small loads "nested" in the basket. They are still there.)

A pair of sweatshirt-material lounge shorts of HRH's were torn. I made car-wash rags out of them today. Thought I was quite bright with this idea:
I also cut out the 2 pockets including the elastic band and an inch of the lower side seam so they are each intact. Now there are mitts for car washing, too! I tucked all the rags into one of the pockets and they are neat to store.

Don't know if I related this idea, but a too-small fleece bathrobe of dd's is now a hand-me-down to Tobias as a nap blanket. He loves fleece. He kneads it and looves it and purrs to it and sleeps in ridiculous positions on it.

Science - I wait longer to make our bed now than I used to. To make the bed less hospitable to dust mites, it's best to let sheets air dry before covering - it's your body moisture they need. For me this was easy - I just moved bed-making from the first thing on my Morning Daily Card to the last, about an hour later. Some people sort of "make" the bed temporarily with sheets opened neatly and get back to it later, but I skip that step and leave it a mess for an hour!
