STANDARD SUNDAY

Just a plain ol' standard day around here. What is your standard for a Sunday? We normally do usual morning routine and then off to church (10AM/summer & 11AM/rest of year).

It's raining and I'm staying inside as much as I can today. Have to figure time to do laundry as the laundry room will be shut down for the year, tomorrow night. Depending on how many people are here it could be busy. There are 4 washers/4 dryers and 1/2 the time some aren't working. After tomorrow it'll be to town for any remaining laundry in the next 2 weeks.

I'm just taking it easy -slept somewhat better last night. Awoke a couple of times coughing. This morning I just felt EH. But after hot coffee started clearing out, but not too bad. I'm just very sore through the rib cage so resist coughing as much as I can. Slept reclining and think that helped.

My first thing will be to s2s. Won't be having company I'm sure. So glad we bowed out of today at DS-A's on yesterday. DD in FL is getting excited knowing we'll be there in a couple of weeks.

Harmony, asked last night if it was time for me to see the Dr. Going to see how I am today & tomorrow. If I'm right she's not in until Tues or Wed. I'm really hoping to be on the mend -not well, but not awful. My biggest thing right now is I had planned my flu shot toward the end of this past week or early this week. Not going to happen while I'm sick. The second I'm better I just may run to W greens and get it rather than waiting for my Dr. appointment. Don't want it close to when we're driving south -I always, always get a little something (but far better than the full fledged flu!). Don't want to be feeling puny when we're traveling 1,300 miles.

DH (and others I'm sure) are hoping for the weather to clear up today. It is supposed to be in the upper 70's (great cold weather since it was 29 yesterday). DGS7 is supposed to lead a 'parade lap' at their go-kart races this afternoon. Race is in honor of one of the men's sons who committed suicide not too long ago. This man has taken a great liking to DGS and gives him things along the way. Suicide -such an awful thing for families to go through (as so many of you know.)

Today is Science Sunday for me.

This morning I'm studying chemistry and learning how flour, butter, milk, salt and baking powder are going to transform, with the application of heat, from a blob into a (hopefully) light and flaky tea biscuit.

(Update: they are light and fluffy - a bit tasteless though - I think my mom's recipe added soda to them and I know she put sugar in when she was making biscuits for strawberry shortcake. Still this is a miracle of science, especially since I don't have a pastry cutter and got bored with the knife trick so dumped the whole thing into my mixer and finished it up in there.)

What is your favourite around the house science tip? I think mine is that pouring vinegar into a kettle and leaving it for hours will dissolve all the scale on the element without any work from me. I even brought home the ones from the church (which were disgusting with scale build up all over the inside, not just the element) and they were like new the next morning.

Dee It was over 40 this morning when I woke up, a contrast to yesterday's 27. But we are forecast to be overcast with drizzles almost all day. We've hard 2 or 3 hard frosts now. I forgot to report SNOW!!! on Friday when we had several thick squalls but it was well above freezing so nothing stayed on the ground. It made taking dh to the airport interesting, though.

How well I remember some of those "intereting" trips to and from the airport, Kathryn. Used to be a long trip until some of the expressways came into being. One night I had gone to pick dh up in a horrible snow storm. I was waiting for him to come in (in the days when one was able to sit outside the airport) and finally a sheriff came and asked me why I was waiting. "For dh's flight". He told me NOTHING was coming in so I went home, only to have dh call me a short time later (well before cell phones) and ask why I hadn't come in to the airport. The REASON no flights were landing was because HIS flight had run off the runway. He got a taxi home -in a by-then blinding snow storm.

We haven't had snow yet, but some hail/sleet like downpour the other day. Keep hoping we'll get out of here BEFORE snow! That's a problem with being the last ones out. Take quite a chance on the weather being bad by the time they're shutting everything down and we winterize and close up our RV. And by then dh wants to get it done, regardless of the weather and get out of here!

Virginia's family gave dh back all the VHS tapes he had given her (yesterday). We still have a VHS/DVD player so he can still enjoy them -all Gaither ones. There have to be over 40. Wondering how much it would cost to get them transferred to DVD's. And the next thing is to find storage for them. She probably had them for 3 or 4 years, at least. It was one of those things -hating to ask about them as we didn't want to appear "ghoulish", but the opportunity presented itself to say something about them. I'm sure, in the long run, they were just glad to know that something had another home.

hope you feel better soon Dee. I can feel the countdown happening there. Its already colder there then it ever gets where I live.

It was a sunny day here. Still a little cooler than some days recently.
Sat in the sun to catch some rays and do my readings and write prayer for today.
changed my sheets. Washed topsheet twice after grubby dragging one end on veranda and the other on the gutter flipping it over the line.

Rang DM. Caught up on family news.

Afternoon - regular sunday gathering at house bound friend's home. She seems to be gaining a little strength - and we all mentioned feeling the benefit of our sharing/gathering. Its good for honest talk. Search for solutions. What works and what doesn't.

Rain / more likely chance of a shower due tomorrow. Tuesday is city appointment.

Oh, I thought "standard" was like upholding a standard! Immediately thought of various matriarchs in family, here and gone. As in "Your dear Aunt Matilda held herself to a high standard." (with implication all her nieces, nephews and grands need to be about doing that, too!) This is a conversation dd and I have been having. OR maybe trying to hang on to the same standard of housekeeping we had at a less busy time! As in..."I am just not up to my own standards around here anymore!"

Science... ... oooooh. Science experiments around here may not be ... um.... uplifting. (pun on tea biscuits was unintentional) Lemme think!

Standard absolutely could mean that, Harriet. I'm certainly not keeping up to standards in any light right now. Though I'm better and today I'm dressed to SHOES, I don't expect to keep any 'standard' for today. It's not even a 'standard' Sunday here. Been trying to contact our pastor to remind her to check on a missing member notebook for me. One person's been redoing all the files and I couldn't find it anywhere last Monday. Sure it's there somewhere. Also wanted her to know that we're not there because I've been sick and not just 'skipping'.

DH is out winterizing one of the RV's. One he was supposed to do today, they've decided to let a friend do. That's ok. ( I can't write "Okay" without thinking of ours -so always try to abbreviate it.)

I have spiffed the bathroom -still have to swipe the toilet and empty the wastebasket. Have the RV split into sections and am just planning a short spiff in each section.

I'm up dgd had peed the bed in the night so I was up helping her get changed and resituated with diff. covers. The sheets are dry this morning so I've remade that bed. Dgson is up now and they are folding the bedding that he used.
We've fed the chickens.
We have church at 10:00 summer and winter here.
S2s is next.

Ta-da's so far:
1. Rearranged the floor of my closet (didn't need much) to make room for ALL of the VHS tapes. Now they'll be there for dh to enjoy when he comes back in the spring.

2. Put away clean dishes and picked up the kitchen

3. Picked up in the living room, listed the clothes I had stacked to go in our big suitcase (not needed till FL) and put them IN the suitcase (what a concept!)

4. Spiffed the bathroom

5. Got myself s2shoes -yesterday was only to slippers. Feels much better in shoes!

Mostly what I have left are 'desk' type things and have plenty of those. So will putter at those this afternoon. Do have it split into items (this basket, that basket, that bin, filing, etc). If I get it all done, Great -if not, still great! Will ask dh to put the bed up for me so I can put some things away under there and glance to see if possibly my jewelry is under there. Haven't been 'looking' for it per se, just figuring I'll happen on it at some point.

Was going to go to the laundry room & do up at least 1 load, but saw dneighbor going with lots on the back of her cart. So, I'll wait. I need to go to C World at some point today to pick up something to take advantage of a $10 off coupon. Have $150 in gift certificates yet, so won't have to spend any money. Hate to go out, but coupon runs out today -unless I can talk dh into doing it. And speaking of whom -here he comes.
