Harriet: That was really interesting! Laws of unintended consequences, a softer bed leads to non-diagnosis!

I started in on the service and hit an immediate dead-end. This week's bulletin cover has a prayer on the back. It is offensive to me and I suspect offensive to the congregation. It is written by city-living liberals, rather than people who are trying to make their living off the land. So it refers to hunters as Herods and those that think animals have rights as prophets. It sets everything in Us vs Them terms (Rich vs Poor, Herods vs prophets, those who want to grow the economy vs those who worry about outstripping the earth's supply, those who want to create jobs vs those who want to do no harm to the Earth.) I've never seen a prayer that does that before, I simply cannot pray it myself, nor can I use it with the congregation. I showed it to dh and he had the same reaction so it isn't just me.

I'll have to write more prayers and since this is on the back of the bulletin, I'll have to shorten the written prayers so that the whole service fits on two pages (not impossible just tricky.) Sigh... (Sometimes I think our denomination is just a bit too liberal.)

Harriet, I was "thinking" out loud partially w/ your dd14 (and perhaps other young people represented here) in mind, knowing she has an interest in art and design too. I have no idea if all art schools, including schools within large universities like UM, are set up this way or not. It was surprising to me. As far as I can tell, the art & design program at UM is not among the top in the nation, if one cares about the sorts of popular rankings that are out there. (Dh takes them w/ a grain of salt, knowing that rankings of depts. don't - even can't in the news magazine world; too much info. - necessarily reflect quality of work in specific areas within a field, which is what would draw a student to one grad school/professor over another. . . )

Another tidbit: the art & design program here requires international study Jr. year, either a semester abroad or a few weeks in the summer w/ a group of students that travel with a prof.

Anyhow, the info session I just attended was interesting, thinking of dd17's possible interests and strengths. Some specialized programs (like business, public policy) have entrance sophomore or jr. year. Of course, she has to get into the Univ. first.

I've had lunch. I should get a phone call in about 30 minutes to pick up the girls. In the meantime, I'll keep working on the a.m. routine and finish the groc. list and menu plan.

Wow. That doesn't even sound like a prayer to me, Kathryn. That sounds more like propaganda to divide people rather than unite them in humility before God.

It was snowing here this a.m. bleh. Just enough to be annoying but not enough to transform the scenery.

Kathryn, sorry about the poem. Gee, there would be so many crossed purposes and exceptions to those ideas, with hunters often preserving the land best, and many who deserve kudos for eating sustainably regarding animal products, finding themselves to be the best customers of potentially harmful agri-business for grain products. Etc, etc. and 'round and 'round. Is this a cover to which you feel "wedded"? There are many options for covers, including using the copier for that side, too, like ecru color paper with a meaningful line drawing for the front. William Humes (wilhumes.net) lets you search his online site for those, just keep hitting older posts, there are a lot. Or use a sketch someone once did of your building. If there is a book store near you which trades in such things, you might purchase some with a different photo. I believe they used to be sold in quantities as small as 50 here.

Hope dd has fun giving her presentation, Lilac.

((Nancy)) for middle-of-the-night up and down.

Hello Dear Ladies,

The morning started out cold but sunny and is on it's way to 50 degrees.

I'm feeling more energetic today, have cleaned up the dishes, washed counters, microwave and stove. Cleaned one bathroom.
Think I will use the idea to get just a few things done each day. Tomorrow will be floors.

Going to shower, clean my bathroom, and then work on taxes for awhile. Also want to get some reading in. Maybe I'll go for a walk too.

Off to the adventures. Have a wonderful day!

DH has run to the store with dsonil for a few things. I'm taking this opportunity of time to cuop a little bit. We have to leave at 2:30ish to pick up gd from school. Discovered after she went into school that she had sneaked in her ipod. There will be consequences, just not sure what yet. Hoping her teacher discovered with it and hands it to us. She's going to stay with a teacher friend of DD's tonight and tomorrow night. We'll pick her up in the morning and take her back to the teacher after school. Same thing today. She has her suitcase in the car. She started to take it into school with her but we caught it in time to tell her she needed to leave it in the car. Figured her ipod was zipped away in the suitcase -not so. Which means it was in her purse. Hmmmm......It's a no-no in school. They were able to use them for a while in breaks until dd discovered gd and another girl had been doing FB to each other during class. Teacher was informed and it is now a big NO-No-No.

DD and her co-teacher are presenting a seminar at Daytona race track today on their TSA team's "Lights, Camera, Traction". They have built a 'mini-cup' stock car with sponsorship from G ordon M otorsports and F ord. At some point they're supposed to present another class at C lemson Univ. Proud of them!

Nice out now, but I'm still chilly -inside.

Oh, the guys are back I do believe! BBL

I'm wedded to the cover. The church has bought the series for Lent (but forgot to tell me the week before so I just did my own prayers then.) I'm not wedded to the prayer on the cover - I don't think they can make me include it in the service. Although I'm enraged enough that I might use it as part of the sermon.

I ran errands and wish the post mistress a happy holiday. The weather is coming in and I managed to get out before it got too bad but tonight might be iffy. Glad I was only going between villages and not into the city.

Dinner tonight is leftover chicken so it will be a quiet evening here and easy for me to cook up supper. Dh will have a hot chicken sandwich and I'll probably just have chicken on a salad unless I think of something more clever.

Good day, all!

Dh did eat jello and crackers yesterday. He is much improved today and has had toast, scrambled egg, and a doughnut...not all at the same time. He plans to try work tomorrow. Now is naptime for him. Yes, HARRIET, I know about this virus lingering!! :)

I got my exercise by clearing the driveway of a couple inches of snow and icy slush. At least it won't be a total sheet of ice tomorrow when we try to get out. Got a very uplifting card in the mail which had me sailing through the snow removal! This person says I encouraged her...well she has now encouraged me! We could go on and on, back and forth with this.

Did some home drycleaning of several coats. SCATTERED is the one who was using the D ryel sheets a while back. That is what made me remember to do this. I get such good ideas from all of you!

Have bought groceries and put them away. I took out the trash because our alley will get muddy. Also have my recycling ready to go. I will take it on my way to dd2 shop. I told her I would meet her there after dance lessons and we would trade vehicles. There is no way she could have brought dgd3 here and made it back to the shop, in the 15 minutes after dance lessons and before the group gets there.

I caught the weather at noon and they think we will be in the area for heavy snow. Bring it on. We need the moisture. I wasn't crazy about it starting out with sleet or freezing rain though. I thought they were basically the same but the weatherman indicated there is a difference.

Tonight is the last home basketball game. I am going with dd2 to watch dgd16 cheer. Part of the time we will watch the JV game so that we can see other dgd16 cheer. I haven't made it to any of the basketball games, so want to go to at least one. Plus I want to see the gyms at the new HS.

MT, I forgot to say that I really like your kitchen countertop and bamboo shade!

KATHRYN, I have leftover chicken here, too. Making a homemade version of chicken and rice soup. If Dh eats, that should be mild enough for him. Sounds good to me on this snowy day.
