I need a nap but the weather is still ok so I think I'll take a walk first. Then maybe nap or ice/physio and then nap.

Sunrise service went well. There was hazy sunshine, above freezing and NO WIND which made it more pleasant than other years when it was warmer. There were only 10 people there, five from each church, but the numbers never bother me.

Breakfast was good (just a continental breakfast.) Nice conversation with folks.

Then we stayed for anthem at the first church, came home, started the turkey (on time bake) and then to our church for the second service. Lots came out, we had over 50! The minister's family has been very ill and today she willed herself to get through until the end of the service but didn't quite make it. She got to the serving of communion and as I went to be served I heard her telling her dh she was really dizzy and worried about fainting and then she sat in the pew next to him. After being served (we go up and served by intinction from two elders) I sat next to her and asked if she wanted me to stand with her in case she buckled and she shook her head, "No."

Then, you could have bowled me over with a feather, she asked me to finish the service for her. She is a control freak and a force of nature so I knew she must be feeling terrible. I sang the communion anthem from the choir loft and came down to the pulpit and took over the remainder of the service, just the offering, hymn, blessing. I write my service out entirely so was expecting cues from hers, turned the page from the sermon and found nothing so had to wing it.

She still insisted on shaking hands with almost everyone but was walking bent over and I had to work to lead her through to the back door and help her disrobe while her dh brought the car around for her. Poor thing, at least she has 2.5 days off now to rest.

We got home from church at 1:15 and the turkey is starting to smell a bit. I'm going to try and make crescent rolls and then go for a walk while they are rising.

Up again, a long nap. Tax season is truly exhausting.

I've already started another LOL and rebooted.

Need to finish the last round and do a little more....
-make the bed
-straighten MBR
-clear bkfast bar "Hot" counter
-refill meds for the week

Ds called and he'll be here with dnephew around 5:45.

We walked.

Rolls sort of rose. Then I rolled them out, rolled them up, buttered them, put them in the oven and thankfully realized I'd missed the second rise so hauled them out fast. They are rising again. Hopefully the butter won't hurt that rise.

They go in the oven in a few minutes.

I'm going to work on making up the rice krispie square baskets that someone mentioned here. I bought berries to fill them with since my guys aren't big into candy.

It has been a wet, dreary day here... but I really don't mind... I've needed to nap & it has been the perfect weather for it.
I'm sorta having the Sunday evening depression re: returning to school tomorrow. * Only 8 more Mondays! LOL! * Of course, THAT thought scares me to death, too... and the UNKNOWN of ddad's condition and what lies ahead once summer does arrive -- THAT scares me to death... but oh my goodness... I would love, love, LOVE to know I could sleep late one more morning!
We went to a late movie last night, of course, and I was just sooo sleepy in church this morning. That is ALWAYS the case though. Today was no different. I don't know how to "fix" that situation.

I have three more tax season Mondays. Can't happen fast enough.

It's nice to see so many checking in here from family activities.

I spent Friday running errands and getting ready to visit our families. Was disappointed that I didn't have time to set up the sewing machine to alter a new-to-me pair of slacks and dress, but figured out 2 acceptable outfits for the weekend events.

Yesterday we saw DH's family. It was a very grown-up dinner party, with the youngest there being a teenager. DSisIL insisted on playing a couple of simple card games after dinner, not my thing at all but I joined to keep the peace. DH hid somewhere with one of his DBs, he despises playing any kind of game.

Today was my family at DSis's. Lots of kids. Easter egg hunt after lunch = plastic eggs filled with candy, "hidden" in the front yard for the 7- and 9-year-olds in places like behind shrubs, on the low branches of trees, and in the mailbox. In the back yard the eggs were "hidden" by scattering around in the grass for the toddlers to pick up. It was barely warm enough to be outside, but the sun was shining and the kids all had on their winter coats and hats. It was good for everyone to be outdoors running around, and avoided and/or delayed meltdowns from too much excitement playing with cousins.

There is a stack of dishes that I will deal with tomorrow morning. I think watching some tv after supper is about all I have energy for tonight.

I ended that post kinda abruptly! DS called to wish us a Happy Easter.

Then I called dparents to wish them a happy Easter. They were just leaving the hospital. She said these daily IV's will continue "until sometime in April" and she sounded pretty worn out and miserable. Said she would call me back. She was driving. Doesn't know WHEN they will be coming home. Good gracious it is hard to plan anything around this. I guess cancer is like that though. Nobody plans for it at all. It just hits you out of the blue and starts changing everybody's lives.

Sorry... I told y'all I was kinda depressed.

I have one set of papers I never graded, and I really need to fill out my retirement papers. It's time.

Also have one load of laundry I still haven't washed, but everything is ready to take to the ironing lady tomorrow.

Dh is cutting Sunday coupons right now and we'll have to go to Wmart for groceries in a little while.

Oh -- family activities -- we went to eat w/dmil & dbil. Kinda glad we didn't have anyone who wanted to hunt eggs! We were all exhausted!

Our house never got cleaned during this week. I don't know WHERE that Cleaning Fairy went. Phooey.

Maybe I should go back to sleep. Maybe I would wake up on the right side of the couch this time.

Hello everyone! Getting ready to shut down and thought I would pop in here first. It's been a lovely day, both weather wise and just because it is Easter. Church service was extra good, I got through my part okay, not the way I wanted to but I think the congregation was happy. This afternoon we had family here for dinner - not the entire family but one grandson and his family. Made a nice gathering without the confusion that results when we have everyone here. A special Easter gift for us all when a granddaughter called to tell us she is expecting a baby. She had her 6-year-old primed to tell me I was going to be a great grandmother again. Lovely! We are all thrilled.

We waited a while after the main course to eat dessert, but even so it is over an hour since I ate my pie and I still feel full. But I am going to head in to the bed soon and read till I am ready to go to sleep. Dggd talked her parents and grandparents into letting her sleep over tonight. School is on spring vacation this week and ddil has to work the next 5 days. But ds (read Grandpa or Papa) will be more than equal to that little tyke.

It's getting late, but I wanted to say Hi to everyone. Everyone seems to have had an enjoyable day. We had a nice day. I got up early and got daily routine done first, then we watched the Easter service from our local church on internet. After that we had a bite of lunch and made and iced cupcakes to take with us to dfam#1. Cake mix and icing was sugar-free.

Our afternoon and evening with ds, ddil, four dgkids, ddil's dmom and dbro and his dd14 was nice. We haven't seen ds's family for a few weeks. Dinner was good and ddil is feeling much better than she did yesterday.

Harriet, I'll bet your choir sounded wonderful! Kathryn, it's good that you were there to take over for your pastor! Hope they all feel better soon. Lucy, maybe once you are retired you can go to the afternoon matinee movies. ((Hugs)) for your dmom and ddad!

So I think I'll read for a few minutes...good night U.S.A. Villagers, good morning LisaB and good afternoon Lynlee; missing seeing you lately (and others who haven't checked in for a while).

In the later afternoon I was finishing up a cover letter to go with a short story and when I looked at my first cover letter, for the same editor, from a Feb. submission, I discovered TODAY, how I never DATED the Feb. cover letter! At least the manuscript WAS dated! And then, last time, I merely cut out the address for the magazine, which was on a legal size envelope, to send to this editor, which did not have the editor's name on it. I was in a hurry, taking short-cuts, and didn't print up labels WITH the editor's NAME!

So this time- I dated my cover letter, made certain I signed it, too, and printed up large labels with the magazine's name, the editor's name and which editor she is, and I'm so happy that I learned from my stupid "Feb. Flubs"! At least it's great when we learn from our mistakes.

I had been working on the story in the first person point of view, talking about a subject I know nothing about, like the first person knew the occupation. DH read it, said it wasn't my best work, and how I do so much better when I write from what I know or feel and experienced. So I went back to work. I switched the point of view to omniscient, so the reader could climb into both characters' heads. So I made myself in the story, out to not knowing much about this, but looked to the man, for advice. It worked out beautifully. Then, while I was waiting for DH to read the story, my heart was racing because HE'S my first editor to get through. I was praying, "Please, let him get to page 2 without saying anything!", etc... There's never a dull moment at our house. Story's to go out tomorrow and then I get to wait for up to 10 months. I have not heard back on the Feb. story yet, so this is good news because you go through 3 editors. The more time it takes before you hear back, the better your chances. I've been rejected by them 3 time, #4 sub is there at their office, and #5 goes out tomorrow. It's hard to be patient, but I just put my hopes on the back burner and move onto something else for awhile.

I need to go plan out April's work tonight and in the morning,too. Need to brainstorm, get out my day runner, go through files, and all sorts of stuff. A writer's work is never done- and neither is a woman's housework, too! DH is so good to help while I'm working,too. I was doing the cover letter, he heard the washer spin out, he knew I was in the office "doing something" and he went a dried those clothes! WOW! He sure is nice to have around, he has a good opinion, and he helps with his opinion on my writing and helps on housework, too. He's retired. He told me the day he retired, "Now, I'm not getting up at 4 a.m. anymore, so I see no reason not to help you because as I see it, this is MY house, too!" WOW. He blew me away! He retired when his dept. closed around age 58/59, so he's been under foot for awhile.

I apologize at the length of my post! It must be from the spiral cut ham and mashed potatoes! Oh! I got a beautiful photo of dgd in her "My First Easter" dress, she's filled out and looked so beautiful! I think we'll keep her!
