helia, if your brother lives near your parents, he may understand more about why you get the unusual responses from them. If I were you, I would pick his brain on this, and maybe if he is married, his wife's. Hearing about or seeing the children, for instance, should be top of their list, so what's going on. I assure you as a seasoned old Grandma
, there is an abundance of reasons for grandparents to jump at the chance for visits from or news about grandchildren. The bragging rights alone would take center stage, if only because it feeds right into self-worth for grandparents (blunt but honest - I am personally responsible for every delightful thing mine do).
You and your family are terrific, so there is something going on there. Hmmm... .. You know, when you do get the chance to visit, you could reassure them that dh has almost stopped selling the crack co caine and you hardly ever walk the street corners any more in that red sequined mini-skirt... ...really.
Maybe then they'll feel confident in telling you whatever it is that DOES keep them from candid enjoyment of your visits and calls.
Or is the sense-of-humor route not so smart... ...
Nancy, although Sammie is frustrated by fireworks noise, I've never noticed the hens have much of a problem with it. Of course, we don't have anyone very close here who sets them off.

I am not dead but sleepeth... and busy-eth.
Good gracious, where does the time go???
No time now to post either, and I haven't even opened Sat. & Sun. threads, but I did want to give a BIG ditto to Harriet's comments re: grandparents, helia. And (((BIG HUGS))) to you for having to deal with this!!! Hard to even imagine what is going on w/your parents, coming from my world where parents/grandparents have ALWAYS been sooo in-our-face. (((BIG, BIG HUGS))) and lots of good wishes that you get some answers/resolution to this situation.
Gotta s2s fast... we have appt @ social security office for dh to get signed up... have to buy groceries... visit w/ds-ddil-dgs, who have been out of town since last Wed... and find out when daunt's mother's funeral will be.
Daunt's mother died yesterday -- not unexpected, she had had been in nursing home about 3 years. I spent most of yesterday afternoon @ nursing home w/them. That explains my Sunday. Don't know what happened to my Saturday...

Oh, I'm sorry about losing daunt's mother, lucylee. Thank you for your kind words re: figuring out my parents.
Thank you too, Harriet. Your comments made me giggle.
I would like to pick my dbro's brain and will try to do that. they do not seem to take much pleasure in our children, either seeing them or hearing their accomplishments. News of children's successes are likewise greeted with silence. . . There is so much water under the bridge with my dmom, and I think we've chosen not to "go there" in our relationship, if you know what I mean. I'm sure if you talked to my dmom - which I wish you could, actually to help give me insight and perspective, dh and I would be at fault. I'm sure we are in some ways, I'll just never know how specifically in these sorts of situations. One of dh's biggest faults is being European in origin rather than American. --But seriously, we are not perfect and I'm sure we've stepped on their toes in real ways too. That happens in relationships. However, I watch you grandmothers here on this thread to learn how grandparenting looks in other families, and I do sometimes feel jealous of your kids and grandkids. I hope they know and value what they have in you wonderful caring grandmas!!! Anyhow, my dmom is wonderful in other ways, and I need to focus on those. She is not super-socially oriented/gifted, I guess. Neither is ddad. I value the relationship and so will continue initiating with them, even though it is all one-way. I wonder if being adopted is related to any of this?? That is painful to consider so I won't even go there. . .
Maybe they had other plans and didn't want to tell me?? I'll figure out how to ask about that; not via email, though, b/c we've had a LOT of trouble via emails. Maybe I'll check with dbro.
real life: Lily has a clean bill of health! Yay! No more cone. I've had lunch.
next round:
- finish groc. list
- gather things
- errands: drop off dh at his office, library, bank, groc. store, pick up dh
That should be a good portion of my afternoon.

Dh and I went for a long walk, 3.5km. I stopped multiple times along the way, including a long stop watching children play on a splash pad in a park. It was especially fun to watch the toddlers.
It is now overcast here which might make another walk a good idea. I'm exhausted, though and fighting a nap. My side is sore so I should probably succumb.
On the walk I bought a raspberry scone from a little shop a block away. It was wonderful, but huge so it plus a glass of milk formed my brunch (since I only had one breakfast.) Then I had half a PB&Banana sandwich, some baked cheetos and some cut veggies for my second lunch. And a bit more milk. We've drunk the first 1.3 litres so will have to open another bag soon. At this rate, we'll have to buy another 3 litres. There isn't much milk at breakfast (just a small jug for cereal) so having lots with our breakfast seemed wrong.
Yes, the nap is definitely winning. Poor dh will have to sit and read some more while I nap (or go for a walk by himself.)

Know dh really likes you now, Kathryn -PB & Banana sandwich -one of his favorites.
Visiting nurse is here now. Having some irregular heartbeats and quite short of breath. Of course the weather is bad today for heart patients. Think she may still be calling the cardiologist.

Yes, terrible humidity/heat for breathing here, too, Dee! The little boy of the family who visited here today was pointing to his wrist bracelet - an ER bracelet - from a 3:00 a.m. trip to the ER for breathing trouble. Poor thing - very sleepy. I guess the night was hard on him. I hope Mr. DeeClutter gets some relief soon.
After they left and HRH got home, I went on some errands alone. Kind of odd as I usually wait until a time dd wants to ride. Bank, grocery 1 and grocery 2. Pharmacy 2 hasn't called with a message yet, and pharmacy 1 has their own message in to my ddad's dr. So I know how the next round of errands will stack up, too.

Know the nurse doesn't want dh walking again today. His oxygen level dropped dramatically when she took him for a very short walk. He's snoozing again now. Know this is very hard for him to accept right now as he's such a "go-go" guy. His mind wants to, but his body is definitely saying NO!
There's pot luck tonight and I had already decided we weren't going. Some don't understand, but that's not my problem. He's out a little bit, but being there means being upright and talking non stop, etc, etc.
DDIL#2 sent pictures of dgs11mo. He's just looking so grown up -especially since he's been walking/running for what seems like forever. Before he was 10months. He tries so hard to be 'big'.
Am going to keep a close eye on dh over the next 24 -just doesn't seem quite right to me -well he isn't, but as much as he's telling, I keep wondering. Nurse has a really good way of getting everything out of him though. He will see the Dr tomorrow night so feel somewhat comfortable with that. Pulse was quite elevated today -even at rest for some time. Since it's almost 5, don't expect to hear any more from the cardiologist today though. At least the nurse called them with everything -all her stats.
Yes, Harriet, I feel for anyone who has breathing issues in this heat/humidity. Thinking of dKathryn where she is now -not that far north of us. Take care of you too, please!

We have some rain showing on the radar, just not quite here yet. I hope we get it here; on Saturday I helped DH spread 10 lbs. of grass seeds in the bare spots all over our yard.
Hugs for {Dee} and {Lynlee}. I wish things were easier for both of you. Dee, was wondering what your experience on DSR's Bday was.
helia, I can tell you my first thoughts when my DGSs and family say they are coming are what shopping, cooking, cleaning, etc. etc. I will have to get done and what timeframe I have. I always say Yay, come ahead great to see everyone in the same instant I am considering how to get it all done.... I certainly hope something like that is the case with your DParents, and hope your DB can shed some light.
Sunday was a lot of cooking. I roasted an 11 lb. turkey and sliced it up; made gravy; boiled the bones and made a big pot of turkey vegetable soup; then I baked a winter squash and mashed that up. Today I met my friend who is facing 2 surgeries, 1 this week and the 2nd 2 weeks later and gave her all the food. DH had one of the drumsticks for dinner and I had a cup of the soup.
Went back to the dr. for lab results and many things a-ok for which I'm extremely thankful. My thyroid indicates I am hypo again so medicine has been changed. Light bulb moment as I thought of my naps and rising (horrible) anxiety. Cholesterol is up but she indicates the test is probably off because of the thyroid. I have new med to pick up at pharmacy and go to retest in 2 months.

Dee It only got up to 82 here today and the humidity isn't that high. We get a constant breeze off the lake which is lovely. If it was any colder, the breeze would be discouraging, but as it is, I'm so glad I'm here and not home (where the base temp was higher.) They are getting storms at home but nothing serious on the radar for here.
I napped or watched tv from 2:30 to 4:30 and then we got out and had dinner. I ate half of mine (souvlaki) and brought the rest home for tomorrow night's dinner. I'll have some fruit and maybe a piece of toast later tonight. I'm still 'hungry' but my stomach is full so I'll let myself digest for a while. I'm still thinking about the gelato which is close enough that I could walk there by myself, especially now that we've found a back way into the building so we don't have to walk all the way around when we want to walk to the shops.
Dh is at a movie now so I'm here alone. That's the point of the vacation, to let him do what he wants. While I was resting he went for a walk on his own and picked up a frozen lemonade. So he's got lots of walking in today. I'm up to 8300 steps. If I went out for gelato that should put me over the 10K. I'm short stairs, though, only at 8 out of 10. Yesterday I ended the day at 18 because I was up and down the stairs at home while packing (plus the stairs at the church.)
