Hmmm -- I don't think I ever said hello to
angrygreycat! HELLO!!! And welcome to our village!!!
Action... well... dh did not like the vacuum cleaner sitting out all night in the bedroom -- LOL -- said he was going to trip on it and break his neck. It wasn't out in the middle of the floor -- he would have really had a hard time running into it on his way to the bathroom; it was on the other side of the room... but anyway, he was right about one thing:
I am bad not to finish what I started.
The great idea around here was to wash EVERYTHING on the bed (except the dust ruffle

) and vacuum under the bed, behind the bed, etc.
I was completely exhausted when I finished that action, so I just stopped. I want to finish the "focus" vacuuming in the master bedroom today -- baseboards, high places, etc.
Also action for today must involve lots of ironing and watching Downton Abbey.
I hope dmom does not require any action today. She will have me all day long tomorrow.
(((Dee))) BTDT w/the computer problems...
Ice Truckers during a heat wave sounds like a great idea, BookSaver!
Waving to Nancy... Harmony... helia... OKay... Lynlee... Kathryn...

I like that quote!
Norma, how's the breathing for you and dh? Rain, rain, come again.
helia, I hope this plan for dh results in pain-free motion for his muscles soon. Yes, it is a lot of time, but ideas and creative problem solving can come (or be worked through further) while we do repetitive tasks, so maybe he'll actually be using the time in more than one way. Perhaps Lynlee's morning quote today could be meaningful for him, even though his situation may not be exactly what Einstein meant.
We actually have several menfolk on the healing path lately, helia's dh, Mr. DeeClutter, Mr. Emptynester.
I made one of the Dreaded Phone Calls and have tried the second twice with no luck yet. I figure if I can get two done per day, this week will be the final week for these.
I tried to do some counseling yesterday evening. A younger (mid-thirties) neighborhood friend confided she has 3 long list pads going at one time. She said to me, "You know, the yellow legal pads?" I gulped. "Yes, I'm aware of those." Hopefully I didn't let on that I was quite so worried for her. She was insisting that she "had" to lay tiles for a flooring project before going to bed that evening (this was between 8 and 9 that we were chatting). She justified this by saying she "had" to whittle down the legal pad list she had for household projects because "it is getting longer faster" than the other two lists. (She is trying to balance their lengths against each other, letting that be the criteria for prioritizing her time.) She admitted she takes her legal pads with her through the day, keeping them with her even on simplest errands or family visits, because she fears she will forget how important it is to rush back and tend to the lists. She's on second or third turned-back pages, ashamed of page-one items not crossed off yet.
We tried to lay some groundwork for simplifying her life. Her greatest pressure seems to be money-related: fear that she will delegate to a professional any task that she could have done herself, cheating her household out of a chance to save labor costs. Her husband is away a lot, and I think she has started valuing herself by how much she can do in his absence to help the family. My guess would be that he doesn't mean for her to feel undue pressure, and that she is successfully making her progress look easy to him.
I pointed out a few "stopping places" that are coming up: the end of one room's redo, her husband's return from a several-week work trip, finishing with a series of veterinary procedures for their dog. Hopefully, at times she notices deadlines easing, she can transfer upcoming visual reminders to something less open-ended/infinity. We talked about the concept of transferring to 3x5s or their equivalent, for gratification, ease of refiling/prioritizing and space to label with time expectations. I mentioned book titles to assure her this was a proven basic method. Tried to gently tell her that I fear she has put herself on never-ending visual punishment and needs a change. She's staying up late at night and continues to push her bedtimes back further, while mornings are a blur when she feels self-recrimination at "sleeping my time away". She's going to try to find a day soon when we can have lunch.

That is so good of you to try to help your dneighbor,
Harriet!
I love to have a list, as you know, but THREE LEGAL PAD PAGES (+ the runover from previous pages!) Oh my goodness... that would be a bit much for even me!!!
Well... accomplishments so far...
* bedroom is well-vacuumed
* vacuum cleaner is put away
* folded and put away underwear from yesterday's laundry
* connected w/dsisil re: weekend plans
* made dh angry b/c dsisil reported that she forwarded my I-message to dbroil, whom dh did not want to involve
Now... ironing... I guess there's no way to put it off any longer. It is really getting ridiculous.
Sooo sorry for
Mr. MT!!! Oh my, that sounds painful... (((BIG HUGS)))
Also hoping
Mr. Helia and
Mr. Dee feel MUCH better soon!!!

Breathing here is not going well at all. For whatever reason we are getting the smoke worse than anywhere else. Mr. Guy and I just took the hotrod over to the "hospital". He was in the rod and I in our SUV. I felt for him as it was so bad I could hardly see.

Pres. Obama talked with Gov. Brown in California yesterday and I understand there is more help now from air tankers blanketing the area down there with the red stuff. I feel so bad for all those firefighters and for the loss of such a beautiful area of the state. John Muir must be rolling in his grave.
The bad air here is going to cancel DD and DSIL's visit this weekend. Last year he got sick and they couldn't come and now this. But, there is no sense in them coming up here when it is so bad.
Hope you and your part of the country are doing better right now than we are. This carp has caused many events to be cancelled that people look forward to ending summer with. Boo Hoo!

(((Norma))) I cannot imagine what it must be like for all of you so close to the fire zone. I am so sorry -- sorry dd & family had to cancel plans... sorry for everyone involved and affected by the fires... adding this to my prayer list in J&C.

Ah, I slept for over an hour and feel better. By the time I s2s and go somewhere, though, it will be a very late lunch indeed. Never mind, I'd just as soon have peanut butter toast here at home before I hit the road.
I used to love going out to a fast food place for lunch. These days I find happening more and more often that it seems more trouble than it's worth. I'm not a big meat eater, and I don't care for the uncomfortable setting. I end up scrounging a little something here at home ... and am probably healthier for that.
I'll feel more like running errands after I have a little protein and even more cold water.
Norma ~ I'm sorry for your bad air quality out there. I can't imagine trying to cope with that on top of this heat.

((Norma)) I have several friends that live in Reno and Tahoe and are experiencing the same thing as you - heavy smoke causing very bad air quality. So sorry for your area. My best friend has a family cabin in Twain Harte that is still standing because of the wonderful work the firefighters have done to save all the communities in the path of the fire. I've been praying for the safety of all residents and firefighters. Have you seen the picture NASA put up online that shows the smoke in California from space? Huge area that can be seen by satellites in space. Maybe you should go to your DD's in San Jose to get out of the smoke? Blessings on you - stay safe.

This type of post happens when I take laptop with me expecting a long down period.....but instead I just stay a short time in multiple places.
After doing AM cards and dropping LO off at school, I stopped by MPB to do abbreviated version of my part of AM cards. I learned a good troubleshooting lesson. Good because it was not in emergency status and DH was available by phone to walk me through recovery steps.
------------------------------------------------------
I'm sitting at the Honda dealership waiting for my baby car to get checked for a recall issue. That didn't take long - The recall issue had already been taken care of during a repair by a different place. Now I just need to locate receipt of being repaired years ago so can be reimbursed. It could have been when the gust-na-do came through and not-so-gently laid a HUGE pine tree across the car smashing the windows, squishing it to the ground and doing about $6k of damage. Or maybe it was when we were having trouble getting the tires stay in alignment and took it for multiple repairs at multiple places. Hummmmm….this might be like hunting a needle in the haystack. But I'm going to give it a try.
-------------------------
I stopped by Lowe's and checked found 6 pots of caladiums in good shape. It was a bonus they were marked down to clearance prices. $1 - $3 each
------------------------
Now I'm at Oil change business getting that routine maintenance card taken care of. I learned the interior cabin filter in the car (located behind glove box) needs to be changed at least yearly. UHmmmmmm. We have owned this car for 6 years and I don't remember ever replacing it. I asked the technician to show me how to do it. VERY simple once I found out how to access it. NOTE to self: add a SHE card to remind me to do it routinely like I do the house filters.
----------------------------
Arrive home just in time to get lunch prep done. Very quick & simple. Fresh fish sauteed in butter/garlic (taste MUCH better than it sounds) served with a huge salad.
