Was trying to figure out who you were talking about, Ivy, then finally realized it was me. I'm so very glad to still be here and part of this wonderful village.

I remember at the first reports of the murders, my mother and I standing in her den in front of the tv saying yes, they did have cuffs on O.J. in views near his house, but no, no they didn't, that couldn't be... ... they couldn't have cuffs on O.J. there was some mistake in what we were seeing. We went back and forth in what we thought we were seeing, in coming up with possible explanations for cuffs, since he couldn't have done anything wrong, right?

Then sure enough he was released and then time taken by investigators to figure things out - but just a day or so, maybe? I also remember staring at the spectacle of the chase, but that was a later date I believe, though not long. Frankly, the chase was so long and drawn out that I think I saw different parts of it from different places/houses.

Nancy, that's good to hear he graduated. I'm sure it must make you feel funny to be sort of left out of all the get-togethers. Actually, rereading your last paragraph, he deserves a lot of credit for being able to graduate on time while working a lot and without much stability from his mother.

Yes, Dee, I would say your health has been remarkable and those drs could certainly pat themselves on the back, couldn't they. Of course you have done the great majority through healthful living, but they did their part well at that time.

Harriet: re not going to grad. not at all, we knew it was on the other side of the state and limited seating even close fam. Were not in the loop. sil had a wonderful father's day weekend!
Might have been a blessing not going traveling is more of a challenge for us now that we are not spring chicks. We had dson & fam. here and h. Had to work part of the day.

I missed out on a spin in because of the busy weekend but saved $ that I hope to put towards a wheel.

We have rain today Dgd is not here yet time keeps getting pushed back.

Trash is at the curb. X picked up now.

Was just putting the mats back by the door when the real estate agent arrived to do the pictures. So I was triumphantly ready for her. Dh's work in the basement yesterday paid off with one room photographed (the other two aren't ready yet.

I need to get to work on the basement and garage now but will drive over to the general store first for some Dr. Pepper and the mail.

I'm taking a quick break here for a bit of lunch and mini-rest and wanted to say hello. We've been busy here since the weekend.

I didn't get back here on Father's Day/Anniversary combo to say thank you to everyone for anniversary wishes, so --- Thank you so much, made our day feel very special!

Sunday dfam#2 was here and, as always, we had a nice visit. They stayed a little longer in the evening than they normally do. Usually they leave so dgd12 can finish up any homework needed for school the next day. Dgd19 will be leaving next Sunday with the band from her high school for a trip to Scotland. Dgd19 is going as a chaperone. It's not technically a school function because of technicalities. They had started fundraising before getting permission for the trip from the school district. It might have had something to do with the insurance also.

We also found out that ddil#1 had to go to the ER over the weekend. She'd been having pain in her back and had gone the end of the week for a blood test. Nurse had called and said they needed another blood test Monday, but if pain got worse to go to hosp. More tests showed she had a kidney stone, plus an inflamed gall bladder. They operated yesterday morning. She called me last evening to say she was on her way home! The wonders of robotic surgery and one-inch incisions!

Both ddogs have vet appointments this afternoon for shots and annual check ups. We are taking them in one at a time, though. Last time we did this they were both extremely nervous and with both in the exam room with the dr. and techs it was hard on everyone! They should do better this way.

Next thing is to take them outside and give them a good brushing. We leave in about a half hour.....

The cardio surgeon who did my by-passes did dh's aortic valve replacement 19 years later. Dh told him he'd done mine that 19 years before -he looked at me, shook my hand and quipped: "I finally got one that lived!" My reply was: "And you're preparing to operate on my husband?" He is good and one of the top in the U.S. Our heart hospital is also one of the top across the country so felt pretty confidant -at least with dh's surgery. Not so much when I was looking at my own at a quite young age.

Glad your ddil is doing well, Sunny.

Getting very dark & radar shows a short line of pretty strong storms coming so will shut down. Was going up to the laundry room, but think I'll wait till this passes & get my computer shut down.

Well, thanks Dee for pointing out the anniversary of some shared experience.
It's so interesting to me to look at this coverage now, as it looks back at coverage THEN. Watching the ABC report/story "10 images that explain the O.J. Simpson trial", and its various videos which I have not seen in 20 years, there's a lot of recognition. Over and over, I found myself able to tell the next things the officials were going to say, or what images would be seen as the camera panned out. It's quite a lesson in memory, really, and in how focused our attention can be when we are astonished. I was surprised I could instantly quote, "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit."

I appreciate the various news outlets' coverage, because I didn't know the extent of the day's events that were overshadowed. The start of World Cup in America, Arnold Palmer's final U.S. Open, the Rangers' victory parade for their first Stanley Cup in 54 years, the NBA's game 5 of the finals. Didn't know Boris Yeltzin's first question to Clinton was about the trial. Didn't know it wasn't until 2008 that the number of people watching the Super Bowl finally topped the number of people who watched the Bronco in 1994.

I tried to give dd a crash course in "The trial of the century" since she just finished a civics class. Hard to explain! She said, "why would it be that big a deal?" I said, "O. J. Simpson". She said, "who?"

I've gone four 10-minute R.R. to = 40 minutes, so far.
The trash is dumped,
dirty laundry is into the utility room basket,
the bed got re-made prettier,
decluttered the dining room table,
found a book I needed for work,
ran scans,
dumped trash b/c Thurs. the garbage can goes to the curb,
got my before bed routine half-way done, except for pills, nightgown on, floss, etc... Can't do EVERYTHING early!
got the house tidy w/hot spots out,
MT'ied the DW & loaded it w/a few dishes,
kissed DH on his way to the barber shop.

DH gave me a marked page in Reminisce, about a Memoir Contest, for a book, for them, but the deadline's August 31. I can't write a book by then, as grsons will come & go. Will print the guidelines up, to enter in 2015, so will research writing a Memoir. I have a good notion how to do it, 2 grsons think my life's interesting & I could write a good book. I've vowed to NEVER write a book, but with DH, 2 grsons, & other dfriends saying it'd be good to try, I will cave & give it a try. Over the summer months, I'll try the outlines, journal out mini-stories per chapter, & include colorful characters from childhood up through adulthood. I don't know what the journey of the book will bring me to, or what it'll be about, but I have a good idea b/c I grew up in a small prairie town of 500. My passion was writing, all my life, but I was discouraged by Dmom b/c her 1st hubby, my natural father, was a poet & dreamed about writing. She disliked him, didn't want me to be hurt & felt writers were a dime a dozen. My Sr. H. S. testing said I'd excel in medical journalism or journalism, too, but I only 2 2 college classes, fell in love, & married instead. I continued to write, save things, but never went pro until age 53. Only wrote for anthologies, newsletters, & letters, poems to dfriends, etc... The dream continued to go, until major surgery made me vow how life's too short, so took a children's writing correspondence course. While I was studying writing for kids, I realized I wasn't a kids' writer, & all-of-a-sudden my poetry sold for adults, then non-fiction stories, so I am happy with my journey, since 2005.

I love coming here. ♥ It's so nice to be a SHE & be able to "talk" to other SHE's.

My triumph for today is that I have safely traversed about 4500 miles in the last 24 hours and am safely at home. *phew* That was quite a long haul. It took us 18 hours from the time we left our hotel to the time we walked in our front door. I don't sleep well on planes, but I did manage about 20 minutes on one flight and about 3 hours on another. Dh is konked out on the sofa now. His bad cough seems to have reappeared. He is not feeling 100%. He slept about 5.5 hours, the entire 2nd flight. He worked the entire 3rd flight (another 4.5 hours).

I just looked it up - it is about 600 miles farther for us to travel to Kauai than for us to travel to Amsterdam.

It is also currently hotter here than it was in Hawaii!! It is about 89* here right now while it got up to 80* in Hawaii. Maybe it got into the lower 80s there. I think we've had a hot couple of days here, but the highs are going to dip into upper 70s/low 80s starting tomorrow, right when it looks like the weather is going to turn more rainy. . .

Highlight of the trip: dh and I did the first 2 miles (one way) of the Kalalau trail to the first beach. HIkers are not allowed past that point on the trail w/out a permit. We could have hiked another 2 miles up to the waterfall, but decided to keep it short and low key. We have some interest in doing the entire trail some days (22 miles round trip) - but that would take some planning and permits, etc. Would be fun to do with my nephews from the UK, who are quite athletic.

At home, the house is a mess. The animals are alive, though!! Dd18 has chatted with us a bit and is now off to babysit. I'm going to see if GG is here. . .

An OJ Story. Many years ago after OJ retired from football he was a broadcaster for awhile. I lived in Seattle with my 2 boys. My youngest son, whom I lost in 1980, was probably 15 or so. Naturally, like he and hundreds of thousands of other kids was a big OJ fan. I can't remember what was going on in Seattle for OJ and his broadcast team to be there, but he was at Seattle Center one night taking in a basketball game. Seattle Supersonics vs whomever I can't remember. My son went to almost all the games so he was in attendance that night. He spotted OJ and tried and tried to get down to where he was sitting to get his autograph. (He was a huge autograph collector and I have a lot of stories of him trying to get autographs.) Anyway, security would just not cooperate and let him down to see OJ. He finally ended up going way down to another section and then coming back around and vaulting over seats to get to him. I will never forget it. I asked him if OJ realized what he had gone through to see him and he said Yes, that he was really laughing at his persistence. He gave him his autograph and I still have it along with others he collected in his too short years on earth. This is a really funny and pleasant story for me to remember. OJ not so fun to remember. He is an old man now and in the prison down the road a piece from where I live now. Funny how things turn out.

Am all through putting my house back together after the major paint job and I am sooo glad. It was a chore. I cannot imagine how Katherine and Ken have persevered through all their moving. It is way more than I ever want to do. I keep saying that when I leave here it will be accompanied by the coroner and someone else can figure out the dispersal of my worldly goods. (Which is what my parents and Mr. Guy's parents did.)
