Good morning, villagers ~
Dee, I like 'Tween Thursday.

Yesterday afternoon I spent over 4 hours at the library sorting LEGO pieces. An hour of that was various interruptions and chatting -- to the point that I was wishing everyone else would just leave me alone to get the work done. I finished that organizational part of the prep work for future meetings. I will go back this afternoon to do things specifically for next week's meeting.

MysteryWoman ~ Thanks for asking about LEGO Club. I will try to get an update about it on the Arts Craft & Needlework thread soon. It has kind of taken over my sewing time this summer.

CI: This morning I'm working through the first draft of month-end financial reports for the sewing group. I have done dishes, and have a load of laundry going. Decided on leftovers for lunch, and kielbasa with onions and peppers for supper. Surveyed the fridge and freezer, I don't think we'll need any groceries until after the holiday.

I'm also enjoying a blog I just discovered, about which I have posted in our current Productive Backyard thread.

I am taking it on faith that all of my posts transfered over here ok, because I just have not had time to copy from the old board due to all of the storms we're having. I've had to leave my computer turned off for several hours at a time (which as you can imagine is driving me nuts :| ). We're supposed to be nice today and tomorrow, but back to storms Saturday with bad weather continuing all next week.

Well, Dee, recently we have mostly been Soggy, Grumpy, and Jumpy from the tornado sirens going off. A couple of those dwarf cousins didn't make it into Disney's Snow White film.

I just watched a video demonstrating a method of preserving green beans that I've never heard of before: salting.

Have any of you ever tried this?

This guy has videos for all kinds of recipes that look good.

You guys are too funny!

This is for Kathryn: I went through a couple files and bookmarks but couldn't find the company (internet) where I ordered my shoe inserts. I had pf so bad I could only hobble slowly. I never went to the dr. but DCousin told me her experience with the same and I looked up information online. To get out of bed I laid flat and pointed my toes UP (not down like a toe dancer) several times and as hard as I could. That would stretch out the tendon so when I got up it wasn't excruciating. I trained myself that in my sleep I wouldn't do a stretch and point my toe (the wrong direction). I'm still wary of that move.

I got shoes like the nurses wear, thick rubber soles, but I got the ones with the backs out. Like clogs. With the styles today there are many cute shoes with those types of rubber soles and leather uppers in colors or tennis type shoes. No flat shoes or hard soles of any type. No barefeet, no flip flops. I have one pair or tennis shoes that are a little too flat and I use memory foam heal pads with them. But while I was healing I couldn't use those shoes.

I bought inserts made of some kind of rubber / plastic that were way cheaper than custom orthotics, though those might be better, I don't know. Not finding my original paperwork, here's what I could determine: on the bottom is HTP heel that pain and a patent number. A search should bring that up. Those made it possible for me to walk and I put them in any shoe I wore for at least 6 months. I believe all this healed my foot somewhat. At the time I couldn't walk without them.

Things that helped: soak feet in COLD ice water for as long as possible. Or place baggie of ice cubes under feet for as long as you can stand. I discovered the handheld vibrator (homedics) rubbed up and down on my foot took away a tremendous amount of pain. Later I got one of those foot massagers that sits on the floor with 2 round discs that rotate and have little balls on them to massage the foot. Really felt good to use that.

Gradually I got better. But my info says feet problems will cause knee and back problems due to weird walking pattern. I remember not being able to stand very long in one spot.

Now, a few years later, I'm not 100% but good enough that I can walk barefoot for a little bit but not long. My shoes all have some sort of rubber soles. Even my slippers aren't the flat type. My beach flipflops have thick rubber. Some people with this have a heel spur too. I never found out if I did or not and I don't know if that goes away by itself. I hope some of this helps you, it is the pits to have this problem.

One last thing: there is a brand of shoes out there, orth a heel (one word) that is supposed to straighten leg/ foot, but I've tried them and they have a very hard sole like birken stock shoes have and I've found both extremely painful to wear.

Alright, now I'm taking off my nurses cap.

Had to post HUGE tada. I had big paper project, file to fill out and I attempted it once with DH and we ended up mad at each other. After it sat there for a while and bothered me to no end (OMM) I started it today and managed to get him to help me this time...and he has submitted it! Yahoo! Huge burden off my mind.

Now to tackle the other stacks of stuff around here.

hi Harriet yes Aug. 20 is when school starts here this year. of course during our hottest time of the year.

Kathryn hope you read about the chiropractor i posted last night.

Also their was a time when getting out of bed was difficult to stand and i discovered is when i need new shoes, I get ones with arch support, sides of shoes are hard with a little flexiable, have really helped. And finding the right chiro for adjustment has really help me walk and sit a whole lot better. I need to have another appt with chiro but no money to go right now.

have thing around here to do but had a rough morning so far so just resting and hope within the hour i can get up and get a couple items done.

have a great day

Haven't done too much, actually. But dd18 spent some time telling dh, me, and ds about her Haiti trip. It sounds like this mission has a healthy approach, avoiding a savior complex and geared toward building self-sufficiency among the Haitians. They have a Haitian director and a Haitian (born and trained) Dr. in the clinic, etc. One of the teens on the team had a bad fall and had to get stitches. Yikes! It also sounds like a Haitian teen fell in love with dd18, which she found awkward and slightly irritating. I imagine her long, long blond curls were a factor. . . .

---Well, LOL! This sat here for a good hour or so. I have almost finished my a.m. routine and taken ds and dd18 to the Univ. union where dd18 picked up her very nice MacBook Pro which the art school requires and which she'd ordered a few weeks ago. The art school has very specific technology requirements for their students, understandably. Ds deposited his first check while he was there. For some reason, the first one is a hard copy vs. an automatic deposit.

Now - to finish the a.m. routine and get some errands run. Dh suggests going to the community college on Monday. He thinks not many people will be around today. I may delay band uniform tasks until August; it sounds like there is an issue with the number of racks in the school - and all the musical uniforms returning from the cleaners and needing racks to hang on until they can be put way. --Oh, the little details about the school music program I'm learning through this! LOL!

Harmony, Congratulations on your HUGE Tada! That must feel so good! I really like your new avatar.

Does anyone know a site where I can find interesting avatars? I can't make other photos on my computer into avatars; the # pixels is too large. However, I'm interested in a new one.

Our day's sorta started out "weird". :o My cat was hiding behind the washer machine in the utility room, because something's spooked her in the night. I'm wondering if someone attempted to break in, but DH said it was probably a coyote howling, a deer walking by OR fireworks that scared her.

Then, when DH is headed out to the car in the garage, I notice he has a 1-inch cut that's BLEEDING on top of his bald head! :!: He said, "Oh, I just got hit with a piece of wood is all. I'm fine. I broke the scab open when I combed my hair." I dabbled tissue on it, because I can just "picture" him at Costco with bright red blood running down the back of his head into his turtleneck. :o I hope it'll stop bleeding and doesn't run and upset anybody at the store with this old man walking around with a bloody head.

Then, I weighed myself, I've lost more weight, I tried on a pair of pants, which were too tight and uncomfortable, so changed into 18-W and there was a 5-inch GAP between my belly and the pants waist. I told DH, I don't even OWN a belt. So I put on 16-W pants and they're roomy, feel good on. I couldn't find a top to fit right. I was trying on new tops that DH bought at Costco. I need to lose a bit more, but I did find a long-sleeved beautiful olive, orange, brown, and tan print long-sleeved top that fits, with sequins all over the front. It was a little something I bought at a bargain outlet, I couldn't resist, it never fit until now. I feel rather "odd" to be cleaning house in sequins, but DH laughed and said, "That's what sequins are for. To fall off or they wouldn't be sequins." I'm shaky today, too. I don't know if it's from weight loss or concern about my cat's being so jittery today, because whatever it was in the night, sure did upset her and now I'M upset. I just have to remember about coyotes, deer, and fireworks and put out of my mind anything like prowler or burglar. We have a security system, too, and wood fir floors that squeak a LOT when anyone, even a KID walks across them, so we heard nothing in the night. My poor cat. :( She's just not herself today- or me.

DD called at 10:35 p.m. last night, deciding to come for 4th of July after all! 8-) She's trying to talk her Ddad into buying a couple of steaks. I can't eat beef right now because of this special Gastritis Diet I'm on. :( So he said he'll get something special at Costco and she'll have to be surprised. :o It'll be nice to see her again. :D I'm planning on doing a quick Conga on and off today, then NOT write anymore stories. I sent 2 Halloween stories in, I want to enjoy the holiday and not be fretting about work. So when Dgs-15.5 is here, I'll work ahead on Nov. titles/stories by hand, relaxing because that deadline isn't until Aug. 1 and he'll be here July 5 - 12. :D

About older women taking care of babies.... My Dmil used to say, "If God meant older women to have babies, he'd have made us that way. This way, we can enjoy them while they're here, then send them home." She said being around babies too much made her anxious, although she loved them dearly. I was the daycare person for dgs from birth to nearly 2.5. I loved it. We hiked with him in a baby backpack on me, there was the stroller, but when he started missing being around other children, DD put him into a daycare preschool, where he thrived and he was in preschool until Kindergarten and of course, then started school. I think preschool gave him a good start. Dson/Ddil do preschool, too, for their younger children.

I apologize for rambling. I'm sleepy, I guess. :?: At least I've written my Conga list out. I might not get around to cleaning until afternoon though, since I'm so tired. DH should be back in about 1/2 hour or so, so I'm anxious to take a look at his head again. Is this being paranoid? I think 'what if he gets that flesh-eating bacteria on his head?'! :!: It happened to a little boy in our state, he got healed and a miracle, which healed him made Saint Kateri into a Saint. This little boy and his family got to see the Pope and see the Sainthood ceremony for this Saint who healed the little boy. I'm just not going to think the worst. I'm sure DH will be fine, but it was bleeding and pooling in a one-inch line. I was shocked.  Sorry, but he's so strong, rugged, and healthy, so this really concerned me. :( Thanks for listening to my rambles. I think I'll go put in some more eye gel and journal.

I DID s2s, shampoo, etc... I had QT, but need to write in my other journal yet, so I'm on my way to do that now. I need to check to see if I have laundry to do, too. At least I did toilets and trash on Tuesday, so I'll do it again today, which won't be bad to do. I need to get out a pillow in case DD naps after eating, before the drive home. She's on a C-Pap machine, has a sleep Dr. and is trying to get 9 hours of sleep now.
