Kathryn, I've also been doing the Connections puzzle. I don't do Wordle. Connections was hard for me today.

I've decided that some of my anguish is feeling a little out of control. Instead of doing what I need to do downstairs, I've done the minimum and then disappeared upstairs. OTOTH, upstairs I've been focusing on rabbit holes because I've been trying to clean out my inbox in Evernote. It's the equivalent of filing, except that most the notes are genealogy related and saved for future investigation. Once I get my inbox down to a minimum, I need to get back down to researching. And I still have research from Nashville that I haven't gotten into Evernote.

So I think I'm setting a timer at 15 before the hour and working to BOTH.

I'm seeing that I also need to set up a desk day for the HOA. Already things I need to do!

And dcleaning lady won't be here tomorrow - she's on vacation - so I'm going to see what I can do today on that front.

No wonder I'm feeling off today!

Morning...

Back from playing bocci., but not before I chased a very big snake...a corn one about 3 feet long..away from my front door. Good thing I like snakes and am not afraid of them.

Had my routines done before I left to play and then came home and started my laundry. Looks like I need to spend some time dusting and vacuuming the main part of my home as well. I have bills to pay and then want to get my steps in.

LadyM...Some kids do have a difficult time transitioning from elementary school to junior high and I will be interested in what the principal and teachers tell you. Not sure about a "I need a break" card will work unless your dd is on a 504 plan. However, just a suggestion. Does your dd have a best friend that will share the same schedule as her? When I taught, I would pair kids up who found 6th grade a challenge with a best friend and could go thought the day together. Sometimes knowing you're not alone in this new adventure helps. Also you might want to address your dd PE classes as that will also be a new experience with her. If I remember she doesn't like to participate in sports and JH PE is a whole different ball game for some kids. Also, if your dd is given a locker with a lock, spend time with her showing her how it works and make sure she can do it by herself. Some schools use lock that are separate from the lockers and can be brought home so they can practice. If you think she will forget the combination and your dd wears athletic shoes to school, take a pen and write the combination on the inside tongue of it.

Being nervous at the beginning of the school year is very common and I find most teachers will go out of their way to help. I had a student, who is now grown at 33 and is a college graduate who got lost in our school. Our building had two floors and a two set ofstires that lead up and down to each floor. One set of stairs was only for everyone to go down and the other was to go up. I had talked to the mom a head of time and knew her daughter was very anxious about starting school and when she didn't show up for my class, I had someone cover my class and went looking for her. Sure enough I found her downstairs in another part of the building and I could tell she was pertrified and lost. Her problem was she couldn't figure out which set of stairs to use to get up to the other floor and was too afraid to ask for help.

When I had a planning period, I found my student, pulled her out of class and we practiced which set of stairs were the correct ones to use. She was very timid at the beginning of the year, but turned into a very confident and feisty girl by the end of the year. To this day we still laugh about it because she says she's never forgot how it felt not to be able to figure out how to use those stairs. :D

I have:
-reordered checks for myself
-checked on ordering checks for cemetery - need to go to bank to do so. The ones I have are probably from 2013.
-Answered front door twice - painters next door borrowed some of our leftover trim paint for the one room they are doing next door, and then returned.
-cleaned stove top and kitchen counters
-scoured one side of the sink
-folded a load of laundry
-started the dishwasher
-started our bathroom rugs in the washing machine
-Misc other

I've had a good round. Of course, now I need to have lunch and in a little more than an hour I need to head to my workout.

RR and LadyM, I remember the lock never wanting to work on my school lockers. A teacher told me much later that she found ds in middle school in tears about his locker. She got him on track apparently, and I never heard anything about it.

Good afternoon! I am up and dressed. I coughed my fool head off last night and did not know how to stop that. Finally slept this morning but when it started again I just got up. I had determined that I would get caught up on a few things but I have found if I do too much I get woozy and dizzy. I'm sure it is just the congestion in my head which will go away eventually.

I am not a big fan of IA. I'm not happy how they changed the program to not always tell the truth and to have bias. I was once in a chat room trying to get help with something... and asked a question and the thing that was typing with me said "that is not in my data base". Well, it was something very simple, just a change in a normal word, so I thought at the time, hmmm who programmed YOU? When IA shows up at my door to clean my house I will be impressed.

DH was out pulling some weeds and I had to get him to come in to take his Rx's. I wish he'd remember them without my reminder every day. He takes BP med twice a day and shouldn't be missing that.

I have my bed stripped and my sheets are washing. I have a list a mile long. After I sit a bit I might get something else done.

Blessed - Hello back at ya!

I am so very pleased with how everything worked out today. ****Big Sigh of Relief*** I feel like it went well because I used the SHE post this morning to think things through.

Please feel free to skip my long post as I think outloud and process.

When we pulled up to the Jr/High school building our beloved grade school principal was about to walk in the door. It was perfect timing! I told Ms B that we would be missing her this year because she has always been our go-to for solving our problems. She said she would still be there for us and then took us inside and introduced us to her counterpart - the principal of jr/high school. I held up the 3x5" card with "I need a break" information and asked if this could be used in jr/high school. I explained DD12 got overwhelmed and didn't know how to respond when she was in the 5th grade that resulted in 3 suspensions. DD12 worked with her therapist to develop using the "I need a break" card and DD12 hasn't had any problems since then. The new-to-us principal was instantly welcoming and approved the use of the "I need a break" card. I asked where DD12 should take a break and the principal gave a couple options. Her office - she told DD12 she could just sit with her in the office and there was no need to talk if she didn't want to. If the principal has someone in her office or is gone then she showed DD12 a supply room next door to her office and gave DD12 permission to go sit in it for a break.

We were so pleased when we got DD12 schedule and there were no PE/athletic class. The high school counselor that created DD12 schedule confirmed with DD12 that she hasn't changed her mind. DD12 is adamant about not exercising with a group and has stated she will not attend public school if they make her. ANYway, this was another problem that our grade school principal solved a couple of years ago and the solution has followed DD12 into Jr/High school ***Another big sigh of relief"""

RR - your description of the student that was overwhelmed with stairs sounds exactly like DD12. We found the two sets of stairs today and walked up/down both of them to become familiar to DD12. We found the bathrooms, her locker and each of her 7 classrooms. She has 4 classes in one building and 3 classes in a different building. She will be walking back/forth between buildings with only 5 minutes between classes so she will have to be quick. I'm sure after she does it for a few days, then it will become easier and routine.

We arrived at the health dept when there was a lull. We didn't have to sit in a crowded waiting room. It took 45 minutes from the time we entered to walking out the door with HPV shots done. #Thankful

I went to bakery and bought pies for DS14 birthday celebration. Instead of a birthday cake he requested 2 apple pies with lattice.

On the way home from the city I was feeling good about getting things accomplished. It was at that moment that I realized I forgot something important. I forgot to eat breakfast and lunch! Argh! I was so focused and busy that I didn't feel hunger.

LadyM…so happy to hear about your dd experience at her new school. Usually the teachers relax the 5 minutes to classroom rule at the beginning of the year because many kids get confused about where to go. You mentioned everything but the lunch room/. Does you daughter now eat without a teacher sitting with her class? In some schools the teachers still do, but in other schools the kids eat independently. Are the jr h kids separated from the hs kids at lunch? I would be concerned about that especially at the beginning of school unless the jh kids building is separated from the HS.

CI: (finally!)

I don't know where my head has been lately -- mostly in an allergy fog, I guess -- but it has been really hard for me to find a time to check in with y'all and post (without using my phone.) Anytime I've had a chance to get on the computer, seems like dh has been here at it.
Anyway, we're doing okay. Just lots of sneezing and sniffling and itchy eyes for me. His arthritis pain seems to be a little bit better the last few days, which is a welcome relief!

This morning, I had to take care of odds and ends --
-- went to dbil's office to fill out the paperwork for our parking pass at college town condo...
-- went to auto shop with ds to see if The Man could do any good for dmom's truck, which she is about ready to wash her hands of and put in our's and ds' responsibilities. Good news there -- The Man said if the noise it makes is of no concern as far as working order of the truck. He said it was braking much to well to have any problems with the brakes, and possibly would stop making the noise if it were driven more. So ds says he will try to drive it more frequently. He then took it and washed and vacuumed it and we feel better. (It has a very loud roar, and we were afraid we would damage it beyond the point of repair, but apparently not.)

DH is gone now to renew driver's license. Later he wants to go out and eat, so I think I should do a little more to improve my appearance. I look pretty raggedy right now.

Oh, LadyM! I am sooo happy to hear that the new principal was so welcoming and understanding of dd! That is so important. Sounds like she will start the year on a really good note!
I was such a nervous student in elementary school, and to some extent, in the later years, that I really feel for kids that have that kind of anxiety.

Hello, blessed! I hope things are going okay with you today!

Dh needs computer... smh...

Back from my workout. Since I'm working out tomorrow too, and was a little sore yesterday, it wasn't a hard workout today. Some balance work. And I went and got myself an iced latte after as a snack. I checked calorie count and carbs/protein/fat before I went but also knew that the movement from the workout would allot me more calories.

I'm planning swordfish, broccoli and quinoa for us tonight, but if dh suggests we eat out tonight I'll go for it.

I need to peel my bottom up and get busy again.
